Mira, who is now 29, has grown into a powerful and deadly warrior. She has been in love with Kellan Archer all her life, but 8 years previously he (supposedly) died in a fire going after some human rebels. Lucan assigns her the duty of escorting an important scientist to the summit. She and the scientist are kidnapped by a human rebel group led by Bowman, who turns out to be none other than Kellan. The Order ultimately discovers that the kidnapped (and supposedly murdered) scientist had created a Ultra Violet device (UV rays), a weapon that could potentially wipe out all the Breeds. This device has fallen into the hands of a group who is to be the new enemy of the Breeds, the Opus Nostrum; who are the long hidden ‘Atlanteans’ from whom the breed-mates are thought to be descended from.

There were ‘shout-outs’ to many of the original lead couples, and several new Breeds introduced for future storylines. A few of the Breeds have twenty-something children who are now all of the age to have stories of their own; and Jenna and the ‘Breed’ chip implanted in her was briefly touched upon.

There was a good buildup to an interesting if implausible plot and storyline; and a new villain for the Order and the Breeds to fight.I wasn’t real crazy about this first story; but I’m interested and invested enough to see where the storyline is going to go from here. It would be nice to see the slightly futuristic society and technology touched on a little more in upcoming stories.

I’m thinking the next book will be either about (lab created Gen-One Breed and former assassin) Nathan and breed-mate Jordana Gates; or the ‘Cage Fighter’ Breed named Rune and Carys Chase (Sterling and Tavia's daughter).

When I started reading this story, there was no summary for the story put up yet, or lead characters listed. There was a HUGE shocker near the beginning of the book, but the summary from the publisher has completely given it away. Why do some of these summaries give away so much of the plot? There is really not much more to the story than what is given out in the summary. Oh, well; at least it will be easier to review, not having to dance around the spoiler. Honestly, tho; I'm glad I went into the story not knowing the big spoiler. It made reading it much more intense and satisfying. The book doesn't give up this spoiler until close to the 1/2 mark. The book says that everyone thinks Kellan died in a fire 8 years ago, not disappears (as the summary is kind enough to supply); letting the reader think he really is gone for good.

Kudos to Lara Adrian for giving this series a breath of fresh air!! I have to admit that I was hesitant to start this book because of the finality of everything in Darker After Midnight. But if you're having any misgivings like I was, there is no need to worry...this book is everything the series was and more!

Of course, it helps for the book to be about Mira and her crazy eyes and visions of the future. I was always drawn to her especially after the way she brought Hunter around. I was in no way...more

Another incredible book to the Midnight Breed series!

EDGE OF DAWN is the 11th book in Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series and this book totally changes the MB world as we know it. Most series when they go on for such a long time and have so many books to a series, they start to lose their gusto and get boring. To much of the same ol', same ol'. The Midnight Breed series has always been a favorite of mine, so i was really excited when i found out that Lara Adrian was continuing on with more books (especially after the crazy ending in the last book!) ...i'll admit though, that i was also quite nervous when i heard that she was jumping ahead 20 yrs with this one..that's quite a jump! The Midnight Breed series has always been a favorite of mine, so i was really excited when i found out that Lara Adrian was continuing on with more books (especially after the crazy ending in the last book!) ...i'll admit though, that i was also quite nervous when i heard that she was jumping ahead 20 yrs with this one..that's quite a jump! What was to happen to all the beloved characters we'd been with through out the entire series!? A lot can happen in 20 yrs and to not be able to be a part of that had me concerned. Why i ever doubted Lara Adrian i do not know because she pulled it off with flying colors!!

This book centers around the romance between Mira and Kellan. They grew up together w/in the Order. She was Niko and Renata's adoptive daughter with the "sight seeing" eyes and Kellan was the young teenage breed boy, who was taken in by the Order, along with his grandfather, when their entire family was killed. Kellan was a sad and moody teenager and rightfully so considering what he'd been through and Mira was a very sweet 8 yr. old who immediately latched on to Kellan and wouldn't let go. The became best friends and eventually fell in love. Something tragic happens and they're torn apart for 8 long yrs...but fate doesn't seem to be finished with these two, so a lot goes down and they're once again thrust back into eachother's lives.

Mira and Kellan were great!! Their romance was super sweet (i completely forgot how they called her mouse, loved that!) and extremely sexy!! I DO wish we could have experienced all of their "firsts" with them though...the 1st time they realized they shared feelings that were more than friendship, their 1st kiss, their 1st time "together", etc...in physical flashbacks as opposed to just "hearing" what had happened. But it certainly didn't take away from my loving these two together!

The action/suspense, emotional drama and the romance were all wonderful, as they have always been with this series...one never takes over the other which is what i love!! We've been given a whole new mysterious villain, hence things have been set up for what's to be an exciting storyline and we've been introduced to an entirely new cast of characters, some new members from breed society and others are children of the original members of the Order...so exciting because these guys are no less HOT than their fathers were!! ;)

Not only has LA refreshed this series with the new things i've mentioned, but she's also done this while keeping the original "cast" very much involved in the new storyline. Merging the old with the new has just cemented my love for this series, i can't wait to see what she has in store for future books!

I have to start by saying that I'm a huge fan of this series, but unfortunately I didn't enjoy this book as much as I did the previous ten books in the series back when the focus was on the original Breed brothers, the jump in time I felt has lost the magic and enjoyment of the series that I used to have.

"Edge of dawn" starts 20 years after "Darker after midnight". I loved Darker after Midnight and it beautifully ended the Order story, so I was curious to see what Lara Adrian could bring to it. Except for its last quarter, Edge of dawn was meh for me, mainly because of its main characters.

I liked Mira when she was a kid, but for most of the book I couldn't really like her because she was too immature. Many times in the book I had to tell myself that she wasn't a YA heroine but a 28 years old wom...more

I, like most others, was totally confused at the ending of the last book, thinking it would be the end of the series. At least that's what it seemed like. Edge of Dawn takes place 20 years after the ending of Darker After Midnight book 10. Because of this huge gap in time, I think someone could read this book and not have read the last 10 books and totally understand it.

Most of the Orders members have had children and are now all grown up. Most PNR books that I read, after their HEA you don't r...more I, like most others, was totally confused at the ending of the last book, thinking it would be the end of the series. At least that's what it seemed like. Edge of Dawn takes place 20 years after the ending of Darker After Midnight book 10. Because of this huge gap in time, I think someone could read this book and not have read the last 10 books and totally understand it.

Most of the Orders members have had children and are now all grown up. Most PNR books that I read, after their HEA you don't really hear to much about what happened after. So I found that this was a nice change to hear about the children of the mated couples I previously read. The series has taken a turn and is now seeming to focus on the "Next Generation" Breeds and Breedmates. This story is one of Mira and Kellan, two such kids we read about in the other previous books.

The Midnight Breed series has always been a 3-4 star series for me. None of the books are bad, but they aren't books that blow me away either. I think it had to do with the huge similarities to BDB at the beginning. My favorite part has always been the Breedmates and their unique abilities that they each have. For the first time, the origin of the Breedmates is discussed, very briefly, but it seems like there is more to come. I'm looking forward to hearing more about this new piece of information, but I hate to say that where they "apparently" came from seems cheesy to me. It's been done before and I wish she had made it a little different, but I will just have to wait until the next book to really determine.

Mira and Kellan are the 2 kids that were bffs, in love but didn't want to admit it and they they lost each other. They were each others, "The one that got away"! It was a nice love story, filled with lots of ups and downs and doubts, but Mira was a force to be reckoned with. She wasn't going to let her man go.

Mira was a part of the Order, one of the few females in the Order. Her skills were talked about at the beginning of the book, but we didn't see much of her "badass-ness" in the book. I would have liked to have more action in this book, especially involving Mira.

Kellan was a coward and ran away from his problems instead of facing them head on. He betrayed Mira over and over and started to get on my nerves because of it. At one time they were closer to each other than anyone else in their lives, but it didn't stop him from making dumb decisions.

Nathan intrigues me like Hunter did. Darion (Lucian's son) and Rafe (Dante's son) are also equally intriguing. So, with the amount that the Breed is procreating it surely seems like Lara Adrian will have plenty more stories to tell. (less)

A full 5 stars to Lara Adrian for the fantastic twist in the series. I got this book today and finished it in 4 hours straight. What a ride Lara has taken me through. She has always been a terrific author and as if I needed a reason to love her more she has come up with this amazing turn to the situation. Tegan was my favourite character in the series, still is but Nathan is just about a close second.

The book is a must read for all Breed fans. Lara surely has outdone herself.

In short, I love the new one more than the older plot. Here's my favourite excerpt:

Mira’s body heaved with impotent fury. She wanted to scream at him, but all that slipped past her lips was a choked little moan. She couldn’t move, could hardly pull air into her raw lungs, as Kellan’s gaze bored into hers. His grasp loosened, and he reached out to smooth his fingers along the side of her face, tracing past the tiny teardrop-and-crescent-moon birthmark that rode at her left temple.

His breath left him on a whispered curse as he put his mouth to her forehead and pressed a kiss there, his trim beard gently abrading her brow. Another kiss to her Breedmate mark . . . then still another, this one landing softly, sweetly on her parted lips.

She wanted to tell him no, but everything female within her responded to his kiss with melting, undeniable welcome. His lips brushed over hers, warm and wet, making her thirst for something more. She darted her tongue out to meet his and felt his strong body go tense against her. He broke away only for a moment, just looking at her, his breath hot against her cheek with his growled curse.

His big hands trembled as he brought them up to cradle her face in his palms. So gentle. So heartbreakingly reverent. His thumb caressed the line of her jaw, then drifted down along the side of her neck, pausing over the pulse point that throbbed like a drumbeat with every careful stroke of his touch. Wordlessly, he bent forward and kissed her again.(less)

It was great to be back in the world of the Midnight Breed. 20 years in the future from the last book (#10 Darker After Midnight) the world has changed and all the kids are grown up. I will admit it was a little strange to go from seeing Mira a little rambunctious girl in Darker too this strong warrior woman in Edge of Dawn. But once you get over the time lapse you will be totally fine.

If you're like me the end of any romance series is always bittersweet. Usually the couples are having babies and living their happily ever after. Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series has always been an auto-read PNR series for me, but I will admit that I went into this book hesitantly. I say that because the original story arc concluded in the last book and all of her original cast of warriors found their breedmates, settled down and seemed destined for contentment. After hearing that Darker After Midnight was the finale of one of my favorite series--the Midnight Breed series, I was thrilled to hear that Lara Adrian had been contracted to continue it but was advancing the storyline to 20 years in the future. I absolutely LOVED Darker After Midnight, and I thought is was the perfect wrap-up to the story of the original group of Midnight Breeds that I had grown to know and love (I think it was probably my favorite book of the ten in the series).

Anyone who knows me already knows what a massive fan I am of Lara Adrian and the Midnight Breed series. I even have a Breedmate mark tattoo so it should be no surprise if I tell you this is my favourite paranormal series. The only thing I don't love about these books is the year long wait between each new instalment so I couldn't wait to get my hands on Edge of Dawn. After events in Darker After Midnight we already knew this book was going to be a game changer but I couldn't have even begun to guess at all the surprises Lara Adrian had in store for us. For the first time in the series this book doesn't follow immediately on from the last, in fact it skips 20 years into the future and introduces us to the next generation of the Breed - the children of our previous heroes and heroines. In some ways I feel a little disappointed that we didn't get to see them grow up but in another I'm just excited to get to know them all as adults and to catch up with the lives of our previous favourites.

Mira has changed a lot from the 8 year old child we remember. She grew up within the Order and even though she is human she has become an impressive warrior who is now in charge of her own team. She is liked and respected by her fellow warriors but has hardened her heart after the death of her childhood friend and crush Kellan. Mira is so focused on getting revenge on the rebels who caused Kellan's death that she sometimes ignores the rules and this often gets her in trouble with leader of the Order Lucan. I found myself feeling so bad for Mira, she lost the one man that she has ever loved and eight years later she is still unable to get past his death. Mira was dedicated to Kellan as a child, they grew up together and just at the point where she felt that they could be something more than friends he was taken from her. When she finds herself captured by a group of human rebels and realises that their leader Bowman is really Kellan she is devastated. She has spent eight years grieving for a man who wasn't actually dead - he was just hiding from her and the betrayal cuts her deeply. My heart absolutely went out to her at that point and I wanted to kick Kellan's arse for doing that to her!

Kellan had his reasons for letting everyone who loved him believe he was dead but I never really felt that they were justified and that made it very difficult for me to forgive him for his actions. He stayed close enough to keep watch over Mira so he must have seen how much she was suffering without him but he never considered ending her misery. I think because I had such a hard time understanding and forgiving his actions I found it very difficult to believe that Mira would and that made it really difficult to feel fully invested in their relationship. I was also left with too many questions about what Kellan had been up to in the eight years he was gone, we only really know about his most recent mission and how he met the rebel team he now leads, perhaps if I'd learnt about lots of good deeds he'd carried out while he was away I might have found it easier to connect to him. In spite of my reservations about Kellan I did find myself routing for the couple but that was more because I felt Mira desperately deserved her happy ending.

One of the things I enjoyed most about the book was seeing how things had changed in the 20 years since the last book. The fact that humans are now aware of the existence of the Breed added a really interesting dimension to the story and I could understand why tensions were so high between both groups. It was great to get a chance to catch up with some of the previous couples but what I loved most was meeting their children. I had a little trouble keeping track of who was who because there were so many new names to remember but that is something I'm sure will get easier with each book. In some ways this is almost like starting a new series so you have to expect a little confusion while you get to know everyone again. The action was just as good as you will be expecting if you are familiar with Lara Adrian's writing and she once again kept me on my toes by throwing in a really interesting twist right towards the end of the book - one that is going to have another huge impact on the series.

Fans of the Midnight Breed series are going to love getting to know the next generation of the Order and Edge of Dawn is a book you won't want to miss. Since there have been such dramatic changes since the last book I also think that you could probably pick up this book even if you haven't read any of the previous 10 instalments. I personally would recommend starting from the very beginning though, I know it can be off putting starting a series that already has 11 books but trust me this series is worth it and I have really enjoyed every instalment. I can't get enough of these books so my only plea to Lara would be to please, please, please write faster!(less)

Deborah Cooke’s Dragonfire series did what I’m about to write about – the series took a leap forward (15/16 years in this case) for the Dragon Diaries – a series based on the children of the original characters. Even Kathy Reichs has done it to some extent branching off from her Temperance Brennan novels to her Virals series centered on Brennan’s grandniece.

My point is this … it must be really hard to write these characters as children or young adults in one series and then have them as fully grown (or almost fully grown) characters in a series of their own. Or in the case of the Chronicles of Nick, the readers already have an idea of what grown-up Nick is like and this series gives a glance at what he was like growing up. So my hat is off to you you amazing authors for finding a way to keep your characters alive and being able to write them so well as children and adults!

Anyway – I recently finished reading Lara Adrian’s Edge of Dawn. Set 20 years after the last Midnight Breed novel, Edge of Dawn follows a now grown up Mira as she goes on her missions with the Order. Lovely little Mira is most definitely all grown up – having experienced love, heartache and loss by the time we meet up with her again. The Breed is no longer in hiding after exposing themselves in the last novel. Having rid themselves of Dragos 2 decades before, the Order now faces a new threat (one that I genuinely did not see coming) to the tenuous peace they are forging with the world. I must say though … I loved grownup Mira and Kellan more than the younger versions and the other children of the Breed we hadn’t met before have just as much depth of character as any that we met in the original series.

Fazit:
„Vertraute der Sehnsucht“ ist der mittlerweile elfte Band der erfolgreichen „Midnight Breed“-Serie von Lara Adrian.
Anfangs verfolgte mich noch der Gedanke, dass Mrs. Adrian diese Reihe eigentlich mit dem zehnten Band „Erwählte der Ewigkeit“ hätte enden lassen können, da dies ein richtig guter Abschluss war. Als ich „Vertraute der Sehnsucht“ jedoch beendet hatte, wollte ich definitiv MEHR!
In diesem Band geht es um die kleine Mira, die mittlerweile zu einer wunderschönen, starken, tapferen und vor allem sehr sturköpfigen jungen Frau heran gewachsen ist, deren Leben sie voll und ganz dem Dienst des Ordens verschrieben hat. Zwanzig Jahre liegen zwischen diesem und dem letzten Band, sodass aus dem 8jährigen kleinen Mädchen eine erwachsene Frau geworden ist. Diese möchte man garantiert nicht zum Feind haben, denn Mira ist knallhart und voller Rachegelüste, da sie den Tod ihres geliebten Kellan, der bei einem Anschlag vor 8 Jahren ums Leben gekommen ist, nicht verkraftet hat. Nur der Hass auf die verantwortlichen Rebellen lässt sie weiterhin in den Kampf ziehen und verleitet sie oftmals zu unbedachten Taten. Und dafür muss sie letztendlich auch büßen.
Sie und Kellan verbindet eine Liebe, die viel stärker als der Tod ist und auch viele Jahre nach seinem Verlust noch in ihr weiterlebt.
Viel mehr möchte ich über die Geschichte gar nicht verraten, da es a) den Überraschungseffekt verderben würde und b) viel zu kompliziert ist.
Mira sieht sich in diesem Teil völlig neuen Gefahren gegenüber und auch der Orden selbst steckt in großen Schwierigkeiten, die beinahe aussichtslos scheinen.
Auch wenn Lara Adrian stets mit ihrem großartigen Schreibstil fesseln kann, zieht sich diese Geschichte doch an einigen Stellen ein wenig in die Länge, doch das epische Finale lässt dies im Endeffekt verzeihen und verspricht viel Action und Spannung.
Viele altbekannte Charaktere haben erneut ihre kleinen Auftritte und noch mehr neue Charaktere würden noch Stoff für mindestens 10 weitere Bände liefern.
„Vertraute der Sehnsucht“ bietet eine herzzerreißende Liebesgeschichte, unheimlich viel Spannung und Action, sowohl viele heiße Szenen, die teils etwas zu viel Ausdauer aufweisen, so wie man es bereits von den zehn Vorgängern gewöhnt ist.
Eine gelungene Fortsetzung einer längst beendet geglaubten Reihe, die mit diesem atemberaubenden Ende noch viel Action, Spannung und Leidenschaft in den Fortsetzungen verspricht.

I discovered Lara Adrian blissfully by accident last fall. I devoured the first 10 books in a matter of weeks. As a long time J R Ward fan, I was not sure if I would find Lara's books to have enough to keep me interested.
I was so wrong to be skeptical. She has an amazing way of drawing the reader in. Her unique Breed with their rituals, laws and enemies is a captivating bunch.
