The story begins with Evelyn and Nathan living very separate lives... Nathan living in their country estate and Evelyn in London in high society. Evelyn is currently a companion to one of the royal princesses and contemplating having an affair of her own. When Nathan gets word that Evelyn is up to her eyeballs in one of the most outrageous scandals for some time, he decided enough is enough and comes back to take her to their country home. Naturally, she tries to avoid by going all the way to th ...more

The Book of Scandal is the first in the Scandal series by Julia London. The only other book I have read from this author is "Ruthless Charmer" which was some time ago, and I lost track of this author. But after finding a review of this one on goodreads from a fellow friend, I decided to pick this one up at my local library. After reading the synopsis, I was very fascinated with the hero dragging his wife home to protect them from scandal. Definitely drew me in. The story begins with Nathan Grey, ...more
This was a quick read while sitting in a chair for 10 hours getting my hair done! I loved the hero Nathan. His wife annoyed me because she blamed him for the rift in their marriage, when she was probably 60 percent responsible. Anyway, you know they manage to mend things. It's a rocky road and I like getting to their happy ending. Ms. London does not disappoint!

THE BOOK OF SCANAL was a very emotional book. Nathan (H) and Evelyn (h) had married young, infact their marriage was arrainged by both of their parents at an early age. Both of them wanted the marriage and all seemed to be fine until they lost their young son due to illness. Evelyn, lost in her own grief couldn't see that Nathan was greiving just as much. Nathan, trying to cope with his own pain, couldn't find a way to reach or help Evelyn. Soon they drifted apart, the marriage failed and Evelyn ...more
In Julia London's The Book of Scandal, we meet Lord and Lady Lindsey, trying their best not to be entangled in a royal scandal, while also trying to rebuild their tattered marriage - which crumbled greatly after the death of their fifteen month old son; Robbie. Whom was a sickly child from birth. After the death of their son, Evelyn - Lady Lindsey, traveled to London alone to mourn his death, where she ended up spending three years waiting on Princess Mary. But when a scandal arises prompting a ...more
Can you imagine what losing a child could do to a couple? I can't, and I hope that will never happen to me.

When Nathan and Evelyn lose their son, instead of reaching out to each other they fall apart. Nathan loses himself with drink and gambling while Evelyn withdraws within herself. Evelyn leaves Nathan when she spies him with another woman, whom she thinks is his mistress. But three years later Nathan forces Evelyn to return home, for the good of the family - he doesn't want her involved in t

Recommends it for: no one
I did not enjoy The Book of Scandal. Here's why:

1. The title has nothing to do with the main plot of the novel.
2. The blurb on the back of the book has nothing to do with the main plot of the novel.
3. The main plot of the novel is a silly, melodramatic tale of estranged parents who lost a child. Since when is this the plot of a sexy historical romance?

Anyway, Nathan Grey, the Earl of Lindsey, is estranged from his wife, Evelyn. Their marriage hit the skids when their young son, Robbie, died. For

Yet another cheesy Regency romance, but I do so enjoy them.
This book was way too much repetition of the same thoughts and even the same wording. It got really annoying and melodramatic.

Wow, I couldn't stand Evelyn. She was.. selfish. She thought she was the only one grieving, blamed Nathan for being not beside her while she was hard to be with. She only looked at her wounds, never thought Nathan was as much grieving as her. She demanded to go to London, and blamed him AGAIN, for allowing her to go. Thinking he wanted to be free while he only tried to appease her pain since she said it hurt being there. I want to slap her for so many times, hoping Nathan would agreed to be divo ...more

The Earl of Lindsey, Nathan Grey, is also called Libertine Lindsey for he lives a flippant live in the country. When he hears rumors, involving his estranged wife Evelyn, that could destroy the good name of the Lindsey’s, he immediately takes action. He travels to London to remove his wife far away from all the gossip. When he finally lays his eyes on her after three years of separation he is in shock. The young and meek girl he once knew as his wife is now a bold and breathtaking woman. Against ...more

I’m finally on the beginning end of a series instead of in the middle or near the end. I have to say I like it. This is my first book by Julia London. Yes, apparently I’ve been hiding under a rock all these years. But I’ve made my way out and enjoyed my first foray into Ms. London’s book. So far it’s been a worthwhile trip.

I really enjoyed this couple who are thrown together after being separated for three years following the death of their young son. Though they’ve lived separate lives, one in
I wanted to give this book a higher rating because the book is well-written. There were a couple minor glitches but the story and plot were OK for me. Our hero, Nathan Grey, the Earl of Lindsey, is basically tall, dark and handsome but has a bunch of flaws including that he drinks, hangs around with a bunch of totally immature buddies and may have cheated just a little bit after he and his wife were estranged. Our heroine, Evelyn, is an angry, suspicious, selfish, self-centered, manipulative ... ...more

Aku hampir memberi buku ini dua bintang karena bagian-bagian awal cerita terasa menyebalkan. Nathan yang suka berselingkuh padahal sudah beristri membuatku sebal. Hot and single rake is cool, hot and married rake...not cool. Suspense-nya agak telalu dipaksakan.

Regency romances often fall victim to the few well-trod, tedious tropes that define the category. The Book of Scandal is a superb exception, wrapping contemporary concerns in a Regency context.

The Book of Scandal addresses a very modern relationship - a longstanding marriage that has broken down in the wake of a child's death. When reputational concerns force the hero and heroine to reunite for the sake of appearances, they undertake a sensitively written, believable and evocative process of eme

Can I just talk about how upset I am that no one seemed to understand Evelyn's pain for the death of her own child?
Everyone kept saying she had to put it behind her, but how can a mother put her own son behind her?
The death of a child is a wound that stays with a person forever. So there's no forgetting or putting behind one's back.

And all that talk about Robbie, Evelyn's son, not being meant to live more than a few months was just bullshit.
His death was a tragedy. And that's it. There's no bein

Ohhh.... I remember this one. :*( The premise is very very very very very very sad! Nathan and Evelyn's little son dies and instead of turning to each other, they pull away and their marriage, which was very good before, falls apart. Three years later, he hears that she might end up entangled in some scandal, so he makes her come home.... And they have to work out their misunderstandings and learn to love each other again. :)

Gw suka plot ceritanya
Gw suka alurnya berjalan
Gw ga suka karakter hero-nya ketika ngedumelin heroine wkt mengakui bahwa ia tertarik thd perhatian Lord Dunhill padahal selama 3 tahun berpisah si hero-nya jg asik main sana-sini dan sang heroine menerima tanpa protes spt sang hero

Plus gw ga puas dg terjemahannya
Kalo dipoles lagi pasti 5 bintang

I like the main characters being a mature married couple and I appreciate the effort to tie in true historical events, but I wasn't able to get over the hero KIDNAPPING HIS ESTRANGED WIFE. No, just, no. There were other plot and character problems, but that one was a total deal breaker for me. Not recommended.

2 Stars...It was ok

As you all know one of my conditions of a rating is the "I couldn't put it down factor"...I could barely pick this one up. I don't think it has ever taken me this long to get through a book...EVER! I will/did (believe it or not) give the book some credit due to the hustle and bustle of the holidays (hence the current rating and not a lesser one)...It actually worked itself up to a 2 Star, and honestly by the end it was almost ( I said almost) at a 3, but we do have to be hones

I read this years ago. I wish I had put it on my Godreads list. It is a good book to reread though. The hatred between Nathan and Evelyn, at the beginning of this novel is almost too much to bear but it becomes a good love story. The mystery is good enough to have the average reader wondering for a while.

I really enjoyed this story with all the fun little plot twists, even though there were some very melancholy moments as we learn how their marriage fell apart in the first place. It’s always interesting to me to see the lives of the Ton in historical England and this was no exception. I really loved seeing the way Nathan and Evelyn were able to overcome their grief and finally see each other as they once were: a happily mated couple. I was thrilled that Nathan finally convinced Evelyn that his l ...more

The fight between the crown prince and the wife he hates has escalated--the Princess of Wales is threatening to publish a tell-all. And when the hero is warned his estranged wife might feature prominently in the book's pages, he whisks her out of town. He's further enraged-and annoyed because he is-that she's asked him for a divorce. Much of the book is about how they came to be so estranged, (heartbreaking), as well as what the scandal is and why the heroine might be endangered by it. The end r ...more
The book has a little too much sadness associated with the primary characters, Nathan and Evelyn, estrangement to ever really work for me in the romance category. For me, romance books are for escape and I did not want to escape to this plot. You couple that with there never being any real reason for the attempts on Evelyn's life and it's a bigger miss. I'd skip this one if I had it to do over.
