Give me a book with a cat and Christmas in it and it's a surefire bet that I'm going to like it. The Nine Lives of Christmas is a lovely Christmas tale told partially from a cat's point of view. The cat is named Ambrose and he is a yellow tabby who is on his last life. Ambrose is so engaging. Sheila really captured what most of us cat lovers know about cats...little lovers with attitude. I enjoyed the parts featuring Ambrose best, with his inner monologue all focused on how he is going to achiev ...more
This book is to literature what a Snickers bar is to food... not necessarily the best thing for you, but it's sweet and gooey and sometimes that's just what you want at the end of a long day.

I love cats, and that's what first drew me to this book. Ambrose -- our feline protagonist -- is given a second chance at his ninth and last life, if only he can do something kind for two humans that were kind to him in his previous lives. He then must rescue an emotionally damaged fireman (Zach) and a cat s
The Nine Lives of Christmas was the first book I have read written by Sheila Roberts. The story was a perfect book to bring me into the holiday spirit. Likable characters. Looking forward to watching the movie. 3.5 stars
This story features Ambrose, the matchmaking cat, who finds himself facing his ninth life, you know the final one. He will do anything – ANYTHING – to be able to live it out happily.

When it looks like his fate has been sealed by an enormous dog, he pleads for help. His savior arrives in the form of a big, strong, firefighter named Zach. A firefighter who is very surprised that his good deed not only included scaring away the dog but giving Ambrose a new home.

Ambrose soon sees Zach needs help in
The Nine Lives of Christmas is the absolute perfect way to begin the holiday season! I have been in love with Sheila Roberts' work since reading Angel Lane. Each of her stories are unique, heartwarming and incredible. For me, the holiday season doesn't begin until I have gifted myself with one of Ms. Roberts' holiday reads and The Nine Lives of Christmas is the most excellent kick off for this year!

With this story, Sheila Roberts takes the view of Ambrose, the mangy kitty on his ninth and final
I don't normally read books like this, but when I read the synopsis I thought it sounded like a really cute Lifetime movie (not that I've seen one of those since I don't know when). And it turned out it was like a cute Lifetime movie. I enjoyed it and finished it in a few hours. I loved Ambrose the cat. He was adorable. The basic premise is that Ambrose has been given one last chance to live in exchange for doing some good. He sets out to set-up his new master with a nice girl (unlike his master ...more

A cute story and a pleasant, entertaining read for the holidays, but I had a big problem with the hero. One expects heroes in a romance novel to be a little cliche, but Zach was more a caricature of "manliness" than a real character -- talking about "chicks" (far too often), contemplating women's "racks" (ugh!), using the word "dude" every other sentence as if he were a college student, subsisting on a diet of beer and pizza, being easily manipulated by an attractive woman, and being utterly ter ...more
It's that time of year again...cheesy Christmas romance book time! When I read the synopsis and saw this one also featured a cat, well...what can I say. I like cheese in my Christmas season.

Nine Lives was a cute, predictable, more-sweet-than-sexy story about a kitty down on his luck and on his ninth life, who vows to help earn his last life's comfort by helping his rescuer - a firefighter human named Zach. Of course, this means that Zach is in need of a good woman.

This was an extremely quick r

I found this contemporary romance charming. Human Zach rescues cat Ambrose from losing his 9th life; clearly Ambrose must find ways to rescue Zach in return. The unexpected connections that Ambrose finds between events in his previous lives and events in this one, and the sympathetic human hero and heroine, make this romance stand out.
I just started reading it this morning and I am having a hard time putting it down. It is a very funny and fast paced read so far. I can't wait to see what happens next. Ambrose the cat is amazing or Tom which he is called now...He is on his last life which almost ended but he made a promise he now has to keep....This is my second book by this author. I recently read The Snow Globe which I really enjoyed...

Finally found the time to finish reading it. It is an awesome book. I enjoyed every minute

Such a heartwarming story. I really loved it. It tugs at your heart strings and makes you laugh all at the same time. I recommend this to animal lovers.

A nice easy read with a charming story.

Sheila Roberts' latest book 'The Nine Lives of Christmas' is a feel-good romance story taking place at Christmas time. After Zachary takes in a stray cat, he casually meets Merilee, a cat lover and former veterinary student who helps him with his needs as a new cat owner. Though Zach is a strong and confident firefighter, his heart is not open to a loving commitment. But miracles can happen, whether we anticipate them or not, at Christmas time.

The fun here is that the story is told through three
It is said that a cat has 9 lives, and Ambrose the orange cat has already used up 8 of them!
Rescued from the possibility of a mongrel dog taking his 9th life, Ambrose promises that he will be a good cat and help others.. starting with the man that saved his 9th life.
Zach takes in Ambrose until ‘he finds a good home for him’. While collecting supplies for his temporary guest, Zach meets Merilee at Pet Palace. Elflike in appearance, red headed Merilee loves animals but struggles to talk to men. De
Sheila Roberts’ latest Christmas story is a romantic treat for cat lovers. It takes a cat to bring together two people in The Nine Lives of Christmas.

Ambrose was in trouble. Treed by a big black dog, he was willing to bargain with his Creator for his ninth life. He was willing to do anything in order to live a nice long life. When he was rescued by a good-lucking buff man, he saw it as the answer to his prayers. Now, he just had to find a way to return the favor. But, when Ambrose showed up at t

"The Nine Lives of Christmas" is a perfect little holiday present for lovers of poignant and funny romance, ornery and endearing pets, and finding the spirit of the season in unexpected places. Author Sheila Roberts gifts her readers with a terrific, touching tale of a tabby cat named Ambrose down to his ninth, and last, chance of finding a happy home for keeps. About to go down for the final count in the jaws and paws of a determined dog, Ambrose makes a last plea for mercy to the powers above- ...more

Ambrose the cat has a problem. He is on his ninth life and a big dog is about to have him for dinner. He starts to make bargain with his maker when he is saved by a jogger. Of course, he is a cat and thinks that he will walk away with business as usual when a little voice inside his head reminds him of his promise to be a better cat. So, he follows the jogger home and decides that he will live with him and help him out.

Sweeter than your average Christmas candy, and a treat that is sure to make cat lovers laugh out loud, The Nine Lives of Christmas is truly a spirit-of-the-season type read. I usually don't read much romance, but I couldn't resist the allure of a matchmaking orange tom cat with one torn little ear who finds a home for himself and a love for the guy he's decided to adopt by Christmastime.

It's amazing what one little furball can do when he puts his mind to it. Ambrose the cat is by far my favouri

Review by Valerie: It’s getting cooler outside and the holiday spirits are stirring. What better time to sit down and read a book that will get you in the holiday spirit? This one is a winner for cat or pet lovers, especially. The story opens with Ambrose cornered in a tree bargaining for his life – he is on his last one, after all. When the dog is chased away by a nice stranger, Ambrose knows he doesn’t want to do anything nice for a dog so it must be the fireman he has to help out to fulfill h ...more
I was torn with this book. On the one hand it had lots of potential with a hero and heroine who had lots of story between them. Plus I absolutely adored the cat, Ambrose and his viewpoint of what was going on. On the other hand I really couldn't stand the heroine for 75% of the book. She wasn't TSTL but, holy god, talk about needing some confidence. She manages a great feat of weight loss before the book begins, instead of being proud of this she hides behind ill fitting clothes. Plus she has dr ...more

Ambrose, the cat, is on his ninth life, and looking for a new home after his last mistress has died. He realizes that his cute and cuddly days have passed their 'sell-by date'. But he's sure he can convince one more person of his value. He sneaks his way into a single fire fighter's house and plans to stay there. His firefighter has found a sweet girl at the local pet store who seems to be a great 'cat whisper' for settling Ambrose into his life for long enough to find a permanent home for Ambro ...more
This is such a wonderful story of Christmas told through the eyes of a cat who is in danger of losing his 9th live and is rescued by an off-duty fireman who can use the love of a good pet. I highly recommend this story at any time of year and love the humor and sweetness of Sheila Robert's story. If you like this book I suggest some of her other stories such as "Better than Chocolate" which got me started on my reading journey of Ms. Roberts books.

Ambrose the cat is on life #9 & in order for him to have a healthy, happy final life some things need to change. Thus becomes the premise for a rather cute love story by Sheila Roberts. Ambrose (eventually Tom) is early on rescued from a tree by a firefighter named Zach Stone who takes him in on the condition that eventually he'll take him to the pound. With no real idea as to how to take care of a cat or what to feed him (since Tom rejects a bowl of milk), he goes to Pet Palace & meets ...more
This tale is a a little reminiscent of the film 'The Three Lives of Thomasina' (although I have never read the book 'Thomasina, the Cat Who Thought She Was God', upon which the screenplay is based). Sometimes, when a cat is up to mischief, it might, simultaneously be up to something good. I've only ever had one cat, but I suspect that cats are of the temperament that the ends justify the means, as this story will show.
The Nine Lives of Christmas is a cute story about boy meets girl and bad timing. Zach is involved with the snotty rich daughter of a wealthy pet store owner but is finding himself thinking about the quiet sweet pet store employee, thanks to a persistent orange cat. Ambrose, the pesky stray that found his way into Zach’s life, is on the last of his nine lives. He believes if he can connect Zach and Merrilee, the kind lady from the pet store, this last life will be his best.

The story read like a
The Nine Lives of Christmas is a fun read that is perfect for getting the reader into the holiday spirit. Narration is shared by three very different but equally likable characters, a firefighter who is in search for love (although he doesn't always acknowledge it), a sweet heroine, and Ambrose the cat who takes on the most important role of all, the matchmaker. I was a fan of The Nine Lives of Christmas from the very beginning. Ambrose is absolutely hysterical and Zach and Merilee are completel ...more
Ambrose is really in trouble – again – and if he is going to survive his last, make that his ninth – life, he is in desperate need of help. After his promise to the universe to do anything in exchange for a long, last life, he is rescued from a killer dog by firefighter Zach. Ambrose, making good on his promise, decides that Zach must need help and he is going to figure out just what Zach needs. So begins this delightful tale of cats and Christmas. And while romance is in the air, not everything ...more
