Phoebe Bertramis boring, bland, and unexciting. She works a job that is inadequate of her abilities. She has a boyfriend that is tolerable, but mostly a dud. She is on the treadmill of her life and doesn't know how to get off.

With changes in her job and her apartment going condo, she must find a new place to live. Her friend Meghan brings her to the perfect apartment and t...more

The House on Plunkett Street, is a heartwarming tale about a California apartment building and the residents who reside there. It delivers a hopeful message about reaching out and living life to the fullest. I enjoyed this witty, sometimes sad tale with its paranormal twist.

Bathey introduces us to protagonist Phoebe Bertram. Phoebe lives in a world of beige and grey. She is a sweet, compassionate girl, who has spent her entire life feeling invisible. When we first met Phoebe, you get the feelin...more

The House on Plunkett Street
What a wonderful read this was! The House on Plunkett Street is a haunted house – but not in the traditional way. Instead, the house on Plunkett Street is a house that is infused with so much love that it helps to bring joy and life changing decisions to the people fortunate enough to rent in it. Originally built as a single home, it was later divided to serve as a safe place for women looking for a safe harbor. Phoebe Bertram is a normal, average American woman. She...more

I'd like to start off by saying that this story has a lot more to offer than what you'll read about in the blurb. Romance, mystery, intrigue, paranormal, and EDUCATION! I'm not one of those reviewers who speaks details of the story .. if you want that, pick up the book. Here, you'll learn how I FELT about it! This review is a bit of a struggle for me because as a general rule, I only review what I CAN'T keep to myself. While I'm not so in love that I'd personally shove it down your throats, I do...more

Lorena Bathey, author of Beatrice Munson, has done it again. She has created a warm, friendly, female loving book! She had me crying, laughing, and cheering. House on Plunkett Street is a very well written story. Just as she did in Beatrice Munson Lorena created larger than life characters that the reader wishes they had in their corner.

House on Plunkett Street is the story of Phoebe, a self-described bland & average character who ha...more

House on Plunkett Street is a getting to know oneself type of book. Phoebe is the main character and she is the type of girl that lives a basic life and sort of just blends in with life. When she goes looking for a new place her friend Meghan has told her about she falls in love with it. When she moves in she learns that this apartment has more to offer than just old beautiful charm. She soon finds out she will meet three wonderful ladies that are all ghosts and are all from different periods of...more

I read the House on Plunkett Street by Lorena Bathey, in exchange for review from Tomoson. I received a paperback copy. The book was published by Lorena B Books. The book is 3.99 on kindle, free to borrow with Prime, and 8.99 on paperback.

The book is about Phoebe Bertham. She is boring and goes unnoticed. She grew up with a house full of men, in a town where women worked in the home. Her mother catered to the men in the family. Her mother was also an alcoholic, staying mostly in the background,...more

Phoebe is the main character of this book. She is going through life with the idea that she isn't really worth much that she has to basically settle for things. Till she happens upon a great deal. The house has an invitation she can't resist. The House has a full back story to it. It was built for women who really had no place to go. When Phoebe moved into the house her life began to change. She felt like she had finally "come home". She felt that the house wanted her there. That's when she met...more

This is the first book I have read from this author. Reading the back of the book interested me right off the bat because I am a history geek and I love a good spooky story. I picked this book up and started to read it in the middle of making dinner, which was probably not a good idea because I totally forgot the meal and it almost burnt!! I was 50 pages in before I knew it. Once I started reading it and was introduced to the ghosts I realized it was not so spooky after all, but about life lesso...more

Once I started reading House on Plunkett Street, I could not stop! The book centers around Phoebe who is ordinary, plain, and just likes to blend in. She has a job she doesn’t love and a boyfriend whom she finds to be a bore. Phoebe moves into a new apartment and she falls in love with it at first sight. Soon after moving in, she is visited by three ghosts, each from a different time period and all former tenants of the apartment building. Phoebe learns a great deal from each of them as they tea...more

Disclosure: I received a free proof copy of House on Plunkett Street through a First Reads giveaway in exchange for a review.

In this book, boring and mediocre Phoebe becomes transformed into a much more awesome and less mediocre person through the assistance of three ghosts who live in her apartment.

This is a really hard one to read and review. I think it's because Phoebe is relatable to an extreme. Basically, I got halfway through this and realized that holy crap, I am Phoebe. I too am boring...more

I received a review copy of the House on Plunkett Street from the author Lorena Bathy. I have read two of her other books which were both a great read so I knew this would be another one of the books that I must read.

In my opinion the book started off a little slow but by page fifty she had me hooked. The story consisted of real-like characters who all taught lessons that any woman can easily relate with. While being informative this book also had lots of twists and turns. So, just when I though...more

This book is a great read about a woman-Phoebe Bertram who is stuck in her boring, bland life and finds direction via three very different spirits from different eras. They show Phoebe a new way to look at her life. I could relate to Phoebe very much- As am sure many of you could too- we all have those days were we feel like we are just riding the large hamster wheel of life. I wouldn't mind having a visitor; real or super-natural that can give me a good push to live my life to the fullest! I hav...more

Not only was the story well written and eloquent, which a lot of authors seem to lack these days, but it was also engaging. Any woman reading this novel can instantly relate to the main character, Phoebe. Women always like a little guidance when they need to change themselves. Today we have life coaches, but Phoebe's life coaches are very, very unique. They are ghosts. You read that right. It is amazing what she can learn from these three wonderful ladies (ghosts). I learned lessons that I need...more

How can I become a resident of the House on Plunkett street? I am just saying, that if these are friendly, helpful ghosts, I wouldn't mind sharing a house with them. Some restrictions do apply: The bathroom is OFF-LIMITS!

I was not sure what to think prior to this one from the blurb alone... ghosts? a boring main character. Well, wasn't I pleasantly surprised by another great read by Lorena Bathey. It was fun, engaging and heartfelt. I wish I had a few ghosts offering great advice to improve my life :) I love how once you start a Bathey book you may as well enjoy it till the end, cause the story will grab you enough that you will not stop thinking about what will happen next! Great story and the ghost were nice a...more

I was torn between 10 different books on my TBR list to read next and I kept coming back to The House on Plunkett Street. I'm so happy I did because this was an incredibly enjoyable story that came around at just the right time. In fact, the book is in a sense a self help book and a work of fiction.

Why? The main character Phoebe reminds us how easy it is to drift through our lives while not really enjoying them. The ghosts are not only teaching Phoebe life lessons, but also the reader. If you a...more

Actually 3 and half stars. Thanks Lorena. : )

HOUSE ON PLUNKETT STREET by Lorena Bathey is a heartwarming story with bits of sadness that touch the heart. It's about recognizing the worth of your life, the worth of those who exist in your life, and those yet to become part of it. With a Christmas Carol feel to the story, Phoebe discovers the worth in her life with the help of three ghosts who live at the HOUSE ON PLUNKETT STREET.

Three unique characters brought incredibly to life by Lorena Bathey...more

he description for this intrigued me and it seemed to have a feel good message. Plus, it has ghosts! Win Win for me.

Phoebe was a fascinating choice for our lead character. In all honesty, there is nothing remarkable about her in the beginning. She works at a job she doesn't love but because she has to do something. Her boyfriend of 2 years is really nothing special. I basically got the impression that she's doormat for those around her and she's happy to be that way (or doesn't care enough to c...more

“House on Plunkett Street” is not at all your usual, creepy, haunted house ghost story. In fact, it is a cheerful story full of friendly people and, yes, unusual ghosts.

When Phoebe, the main character, moves into an apartment in what used to be the house on Plunkett Street, she senses that it is a building filled with happiness and good memories. Three ghosts, on a mission to help her, make their appearance one by one, and Phoebe's life changes dramatically.

First there is Isolda - who was involv...more

As a woman who feels like she is at a crossroads, I could very much relate to the main character in this story. This is an empowering story that came along at just the right time for me- much like Phoebe's new apartment and new 'friends' did for her.

It took me a little bit to get really into it, but once that happened I didn't want to stop reading. This is about how no woman should settle for less than what she deserves. 'Just enough' isn't ever enough.

The only thing in this book that bothered...more

Phoebe has lived the same boring life for a long time. She has run the same routine with no changes and no color. Her friend Meghan calls her to come check out this apartment. Phoebe loves this apartment in this house on Plunkett Street. Change is in the air and special helpers are on the way. Three ghosts come to visit Phoebe with advice on how to change her life. Will she take their advice or continue the same routine? I very much enjoyed this book. I found the book a page turner. I can’t wait...more

As with every Lorena Bathey novel that I have read I fell in love with this story almost immediately. Every time I read one of her books there is so much that strikes a personal cord with me and connects directly to my personal life. I often feel as though Lorena is sitting across the kitchen table from me, sipping coffee, and talking me through important decisions that need to be made. Lorena Bathey does it again with House on Plunkett Street! Not do I love this author but I can't wait for her to publish more books. There's only 1 more book from her that I have yet to read. You can check out my full review of this book here: http://www.justmarriedmomof3.com/2013...

If you enjoy, as I have since childhood, a great ghost story well told, this book is required reading. What better way to spend a cold winter night than curled in front of the fireplace with a good ghost story. Very well written does exceptionally well is characterization.

Of course as the author I love this book. It's the characters that make it fun. Please enjoy the story and remember life is about living, not simply exisiting.
