marked it as do-not-want-to-read
I created a custom, individual (for me) shelf for this book that I named "do not want to read" and that sums it up for this book. Rita Mae, much as I've enjoyed so many of her books in several series (as "light" reading material --- entertaining but nothing special literature-wise), has gone too far for me this time. The cutesy animals in her "Mrs. Murphy" books, except surprisingly Mrs. Murphy herself, seem to be here in this book taking center stage. I read a few pages and decided it just wasn...more
This novel was very much what I anticipated as I pre-ordered it. A beautifully expressed neutral opinion about the current political scene as we enter the final months of this 2012 election year.
I knew Sneaky Pie Brown (co-author) of the wonderful Mrs. Murphy murder mystery series, would give us her particular viewpoint of the issues that truly do concern the human population and animal world. This book covers the economy not only from emotional state but with hard, cold, and well researched num...more

This is not a Mrs. Murphy mystery, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was happy to find out that it was just as, if not more, enjoyable.
The narrator is not the character we know from the Mrs. Murphy novels, instead, it is the co-author, Sneaky Pie herself. Rita Mae Brown, referred to as "C.O." or "Can Opener" also makes an appearance, although she is not a big part in the story.

I think it's fun that, in an election year, RMB really tried to get into the brains of critters and what issues they might get behind. Sneaky Pie and friends, both wild and domesticated, debate issues of conservation, fair and healthy farming, taxes, coupling, water quality, health care, and many other hot topics. The most interesting part was about much the farm industry, wildlife & sporting, and companion animals make or save humans in terms of dollars. It's more fun to hear the issues fra...more
It is a rare thing where an author of fiction is given free reign with a book, but Rita Mae Brown isn't a typical author. She's both critically acclaimed, primarily for her novel Rubyfruit Jungle, and commercially successful with her Mrs. Murphy mysteries. The combination of her critical and commercial success allowed her to write this book, a spleen-venting screed on the current political climate, using many characters from her mystery novels.

when I picked this book up at the library it was billed as a mystery. I enjoy the Sneaky Pie mysteries as an escape, especially if I've just read a really complicated plot type of book, but this one is definitely on my list of "step away from the book". After reading come of the other comments on Goodreads, I think the best description is a diatribe of facts and figures that will not stand the test of time. I understand that this was probably intended to comment on the political system in the US...more
This was Rita Mae Brown's (or should I say Sneaky Pie Brown's) political manifesto. The two Browns have a complicated political philosophy and cannot be pigeonholed neatly. It's like a recipe:
Add one part Tea Party (income tax is unconstitutional)
Add one part Liberal (the other party is anti-sex/gay)
Add one part Libertarian (government needs to get out of the way)
Add one part Green (man is ruining nature)
Stir and one will have a nuanced political philosophy gained by years of experience.

For those that are expecting a Mrs. Murphy mystery, this book isn't it. Sneaky Pie herself features in this one, and it isn't a mystery. She lives in Virginia with Tee Tucker, Pewter and a Jack Russell named Tally, with their human who is only referred to as their C.O. - aka Can Opener. Instead of a msytery the book follows the title - Sneaky Pie presents her campaign for president! What's important to the animal constituent? Who is the right choice for a running mate, and how is reaching out to...more
What an odd little book! I like the Sneaky Pie mysteries and I (mostly) agree with Brown's politics, but I just couldn't figure out the point of this book. Mixing the fictional characters with real ones just confused me. If it were shorter, I would call this a fable with a decidedly political moral. At this length, I just found the diatribe boring -- nothing new, nothing especially witty, just the all-too-obvious conclusion that given the choices offered by our current political system, even a c...more
I love the Sneaky Pie mysteries and so it is my own darn fault for picking this up thinking it was the latest in the series. Unfortunately it was not and was just a chance for author Rita Mae Brown to spout her political views using her cat, Sneaky Pie, as her mouthpiece. More power to her for getting this published, but it wasn't something I was interested in reading.
If you are a fan of the series by Rita Mae Brown and her cat co-author you will be amused by the book. She does leap right into the thick of things which may not please a new reader. Ms Brown has gotten a lot of mileage from a very cute premise. I love icecream and cake but not all icecream and not all cake. This cake needs extra milk.
I have read all the books in this series. This book was a disappointment. I couldn't get past the first 10 pages. The conversations between the characters were trite and boring. I had looked forward to a good murder mystery and it turned into a strung together series of conversations between the characters on disjointed topics.
Sneaky Pie's political platform in novel form. I wish that she was a viable candidate. I would vote for her in a minute!
It is a short novel and a quick read. Read it and wish that our other candidates would be so astute and humane, and honest. It's worth the three or four hours it will take you to read.

Very timely. As expected, there is a good amount of the author's political views, but some wonderful feline cattitudes as well. Sneaky's campaign promises and platform are great. Pewter's comments are so feline and so Pewter for those who have read the Mrs. Murphy books. I was actually a little surprised and how much I enjoyed it since I have been disappointed in the last several books in the series.

Could not finish. I am a cat lover but.... This book is written from the view of a cat according to him or her by him. It is all about him and his friend. I found the first chapter so stupid that I could not finish. I don't think I will read any of his other books.
One of my major complaints about the last few Sneaky Pie books is that they spent too much time talking politics and not enough time on plot development. This time Sneaky Pie and her character, Mrs. Murphy, let the world know what a cat would do if she ran for President. It's a good summer read, not much more than that...
