Interesting Concept.

First let me say that I love Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed Series so when I saw she had written this I had to try it.

The story was a very interesting start for a series, it started off slow for me but the character buildup of Ariana's quest kept me intrigued and when she ran into this mysterious Braedon le Chasseur who has a semi-torturous soul I had to keep reading.

Ariana and Braedon's romance was very sweet especially towards the end. I did get aggravated a little with Arian...more

In my mind, Heart of the Hunter almost qualifies as a paranormal romance but just not quite. Though there are several paranormal elements, they don't influence the plot enough for it to count and it reminds me much more of a victorian romance.

Ariana is the stereotypical demanding, naive genteel who sets off to pay the ransom for her brother, Kenrick. Kenrick has been researching something dangerous and the baddies want his notes. Along the way, the typical probl...more

I picked this book from the freebies because I adore Lara Adrian's books and because historical paranormal romance is a favorite genre for me. I loved how she blended the medieval with the legendary magic storyline here.

There is the overarching story of how a fey princess fell in love with a mortal and when the mortal was driven out he stole a magical cup that wasn't allowed to leave the fey realm. When the cup or chalice crossed over it was split into four pieces becoming four separate cups and...more

Ariana goes in search of her kidnapped brother, being saved from peril by Braedon le Chasseur, a mysterious knight from France.Without realising, they are both becoming entangled in a dangerous hunt for a magical chalice and they need to overcome suspicion of each other and their own pasts in order to survive.

A predictable historical romance, the first of a trilogy, I took up because of the author, Lara Adrian whose paranormal romances I enjoyed very much. an inoffensive story, though with an ir...more

As a fan of Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series, I thought it would be nice to explore her previously released medieval romances under her pen name, Tina St. John. I was expecting a good romance, as is the case with all of Lara Adrian’s work, but I had no idea that Tina could craft such an intricate and engaging story like HEART OF THE HUNTER turned out to be.

Ariana of Clairmont is on a mission to reach France and free her brother from the hands of his captors. Upon rec...more

I really enjoyed this book. The first book in the Dragon Chalice series mainly involes Ariana and her rescuer/soon to be lover Braedon. Arianas' brother Kenrick has been kidnapped and a ransom note sent to Ariana. She is told she must travel to France with the papers Kenrick has been working on and stored for safekeeping at home or Kenrick will be killed. Ariana brings an escort with her that is killed early in the book. She is in the process of being kidnapped when Braedon comes to her rescue....more

This book, Book 1 of the Dragon Chalice series, was written earlier in the career of Ms Adrian (Midnight Breed Series) when she was writing as Tina St Johns and it shows it as while it is good, it doesn't quite match her later series.

When Ariana of Clairmont went to the docks with her guard/escort James she had no idea what she was getting into, all she knew was that she had to get to France and deliver, as ransom, some papers her brother Kenrick had been working on before he was captured. When...more

As a fan of Adrian's Midnight Breed Series and her writing, and an avid reader/fan of historical romance, I was looking forward to reading this book (Tina St John is Adrian's pseudoname- sorry for the spelling). I must admit I was curious to see where the author would take the story and if it would be as good as her Midnight Breed Series. And the verdict is.....I absolutely loved it! Not only did I think the story was well written, but I loved the suspense, and magic and mystery surrounding the...more

This was an amazing tale, by Tina St. John aka Lara Adrian - who writes the Midnight Breed Series, which I have not read but have been on my to be read list for a long time. So I gave her historical romance a chance instead and was not disappointed. It was magical, heartbreaking, beautifully written romance novel.

It takes us to a different time, on a quest for the Dragon Chalice that is said to come from another land and evil forces are after it. And we have our Heroine ( who I absolut...more

Tina St. John AKA Laura Adrian is plain out a talented writer. Her style in these medieval stories wins the 4 stars alone. This particular story would have rated a 3.5 otherwise, but I am wavering at that too. I really enjoyed the book, the characters were well crafted and solid throughout. Plot was strong and the PN aspect that I thought might distract me, instead made the story surprisingly more alluring. I was not swept away like I was with her other historical fictions, but intrigued enough...more

Solid 3.5 stars.
Interesting story, nice characters, well written and was fast-paced throughout the majority, holding my interest but i started to feel it was dragging a little towards the end. However, it did liven up again and redeemed itself, although the very end seemed a little rushed without key parts of the story coming to a conclusion. This is obviously to tee up the next book in the series, but i still felt this book needed a better, more thorough wrap up for its story, as the next in th...more

I downloaded this book on the strength on Lara Adrian's name (and it was free :D).

If someone had told me Tina St. John was Lara Adrian, I wouldn't have believed them. The writing is weak, as are characters and world-building. The beginning is almost un-linked with the rest of the story. The paranormal facet too shallow to be interesting. Above all hero and heroine were bland, she is way beyond naive, she gets into the "stupid" area on the line.
The ending is predictable (yes, I know this is rom...more

One of the only reasons that I picked up this book was that it is the pen name for Lara Adrian and I really like her books, so I wanted to check out this version of her. I wasn't sure how it would go for me as I am not a big fan of historicals and fantasy can go either way for me too. After 30 pages I gave this one up. I just couldn't get into it, thought Ariana was TSTL with her choices and wasn't sure of the guy that saved her. In the end this one just isn't for me, guess I will just stick wit...more

This is one of Lara Adrian's books that she wrote before the Midnight Breed series came out. I love historical paranormal stories and I love her other work, so this seemed a no-brainer. There are some really good things about this story and yet in the end, it doesn't completely work. It is enjoyable however. The backstory of a a parallel world and the dragon chalice that holds the 4 stones is an interesting one. And even though this is the first in the series, it feels like you jumped in the mid...more

I could read these like I eat jelly beans! Normally I would give this 2.5 or 3 stars because the sex scenes were so rough, but I absolutely loved the characters and storyline. I remember reading stuff like this growing up and hiding them under my bed, trading with my friends at school! I totally loved it and I'vd already bought the other 2 in the trilogy! I should know I will love whatever Lara Adrian writes or has written under any name!

I like Historical Fiction.
I like PNR.
This was a combination of the two. Perfect!!!

I'd read and liked Kiss of Midnight so thought I'd give this author another go.

I didn't really like this :(

The idea behind it was good and at the start I was really enjoying it but my interest started to wain once the couple got to France and I found myself skimming. I found scenario's and phrases were getting repetitive and instead of liking the characters more I found myself disliking them more.

Braedon wasn't a b...more

I did not know that Tina St. John was Lara Adrian way back when. The two main characters, Ariana & Braedon were holding a satchel that held information regredng the Dragon Chalice. They had to exchange the information for Ariana's brother. I loved the world that was built for the story and the characters ;were interesting. I can't wait to read this whole series.

In the Dragon Chalice series Ms. Adrian has once again gone above and beyond in her writing. As with The Midnight Breed, Dragon Chalice is very well written, precise and to the point. She never repeats anything that is mentioned in her books. She does not depend on filler to keep the reader entertained. She is amazing at coming up with new plots and scenario's to keep the reader interested. She is an incredible author and I would highly recommend this series as well as her Midnight Breed.

The book kept me interested. I liked the female character, I enjoyed her especially at the beginning. The sex scenes are not as over the top as they sometimes are in this genre, so that is a plus. The ending was too rushed, I did not like the part from where they meet his family till the end. The last chapter was really no surprise and the epilog... cheesy :)
Chelsea
I really liked this book, although it is different from what I read. Essentially the books is about a race of shifters sent way back in the 13th Century. I enjoyed reading about Ariana and Breadon, they were a wonderful couple to get to know, and the strength of them was a pleasure to read. I liked the idea of Breadon's hunter's gift/sense and hopefully in the next books we will get to see more of his people. The Dragon Chalice was a different approach to paranormal aspects of the book. Consider...more

I am not a romance lover. I have read all vampire books from this author and I really like her style but i have the impression she is a thousand times for imaginative in the paranormal vampire world than with this world. There was too much repetition, too much useless blah, blah. Not my thing altouh the idea of the sotry is quite nice and interesting

Three stars overall; I would've liked to get more background info on this parallel world and its inhabitants. Maybe that'll come with the following books. Otherwise, I spent an afternoon doing what I like best: reading a book and being made to forget the real world around me.

There is a reason I read romance novels and it is for the romance. Okay, I like a development of a relationship and maybe some interesting plot too. This one was heavy on blah, blah, blah. I just wanted to get to the parts where they did it, honestly. It was just okay.

Diese Fantasy-Romance hat mir gut gefallen. Ein bisschen weniger Schmalz hätte mir noch mehr gefallen, aber das Zusammenspiel mehrerer Genre hier hatte was.

This book was captivating and I read it pretty quickly. After finishing it I promptly purchased the 2nd installment. Its a must read for sure but it does start off a little slow and the story can be some what predictable but overall a really good read
