Okay, I am reading pulp fiction. Many people from my classes have recommended his novels and I thought I would see what all the hype is about. So far it is not well-written, but I am entertained. I liked the movie, although I think Ashley Judd is annoyingly condescending.

This is the second outing for Alex Cross.
This found Alex on the hunt for 2 ruthless killers of young beautiful, intelligent women: The Gentleman Caller and Casanova. Are they the same person although they're striking in different areas and have different styles? When Alex's niece, Naomi, is taken Alex treats this case as very personal and it leads him on an eventful chase with partner Sampson.

No James Patterson fan here. This was the first (and last) book I read by this author. I was just coming off of reading everything I could get my hands on by Steven King. When he started writing out of his normal genre, I decided to make the switch to Patterson. In my entire life, I have never thrown a book in the trash. This one by-passed my waste paper basket and went directly into the dumpster on the corner. The chapter with the snake was totally unnecessary. I'll stick to Steven King, ...more

Good luck trying to put this one down after starting it. From start to finish this book will have you sweating with anticipation of whats to come. James Patterson does a great job of putting realistic characters in believable situations that will have you on the edge of your seat i guess you could say.

I have read all Patterson's Alex Cross books pretty much in order, and I am a huge fan. His style is easy to read, his mysteries complicated enough you don't figure out who did it too soon (if at all), and his characters are accessible.

This is genuinely the worst book I have ever finished.
To be fair, it is tolerable when there is action, which is often. But every time James Patterson tries to put words coming out of a characters mouth, it makes you want to punch yourself in the face. When he writes descriptive, emotional paragraphs, it makes you want to punch him in the face.
I actually dog-eared a couple pages because the writing was so bad, I wanted to be able to quick reference it to people to show them how bad it was.

I read this when I was a freshman in high school, before I could smell crappy books from across the room. Patterson basically pulls you through a series of really graphic and horrible sex crimes and then calls it a day. fast read, as all patterson's are.
however, this is his best one, i think. alex is still new here, but he's familiar at the same time (no matter if you've read the books in order or not) and the racial overtones aren't as obnoxious as in along came a spider. the twists are clever, there really isn't a cheesy romantic plot to take away from anything, and there's this real appreciation of best friend/man love that just made me smile. ...more

This was one of the most frustrating books I have ever read. The story was fantastic. Alex Cross is one of my favorite characters and the villains were fascinating. But there is one chapter where on of the villains does something vile and disgusting, that was so unnecessary, that I cannot recommend this to anyone. It makes me quite sad actually, because it was a great book (a 4 star actually), BUT the one chapter ruined it. I do hope that the next one, Jack and Jill, is better.

James Patterson has a very readable style. Short chapters, lots of actions. Dale Brown (DaVinci Code) writes with a similar style. The lead character, Alex Cross, is somebody who you learn to care about. I believe there are 13 Alex Cross books. This is the second book in that series. I'm now reading the seventh. They have all been good. Only draw back is that these books are all based on mass murderers. So it's kind of depressing (but fascinating) to look into the dregs of human kind.

There was a time when I kept on reading the John Grisham series until I cannot find another John Grisham book lying around so I saw this book and started reading it.. Well.. It reminds me of the John Grisham thrillers but I think I wasn't very thrilled with this book.. I remembered the plot was about this two police hunting down this "Cassanova" serial killer. The serial killer's hide out was freakish though.. Under ground and everything.. But it's good..

Beautiful, young women are disappearing from college campuses all over North Carolina. When the niece of D.C. detective/psychologist Alex Cross becomes one of the missing, it becomes personal. Now Alex is crossing jurisdictions and the paths of superiors in his quest to save his niece. Excellent writing with very short chapters that keep you wanting to read more. I Never wanted to put it down because it kept me so interested and moved so fast.

I like James Patterson-he is one that I like to listen to on my ipod or driving because his books are fun and I can do other stuff while listening to them.
But, I read Kiss the Girls 10 or more years ago and this is one that has stuck with me. I read it before the movie came out-and this is one movie based on a book that I actually like! This book was chilling and I recommend it to anyone-even if you don't like James Patterson.

This was the first of James Patterson's books that I read. It began a string of nearly all his writing (which is prolific to say the least). I love the way he develops characters and links them throughout his work in writing series novels. He's exceptional at eluding to the characters or plots in other books in a series, but has the ability for each one to stand on its own without having read the entire set.

This book has a sick, wierd, creepy plot, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I enjoy the character of Alex Cross and all of the balls he must juggle in his life: consulting psychiatrist to the FBI, father, grandson, boyfriend. The bicoastal murders and disappearances heighten the tension and the drama. Take this book to the beach, or even the back porch. You are sure to have a good day.

A very intense but exciting book to read. The movie was good but the book is very much better. Patterson and his Alex Cross novels are every bit as exciting as the Sherlock Holmes books were to me as a teen. This one is a good place to start if you have never read his books before.They all stand on their own but they reall do read easier and better in the order that they were written.

this book is so scary. It was so good, I couldn't put it down (granted, I am a wimp so I couldn't sleep either)... but it is great. The movie was HORRIBLE. I scare very easily and I wasn't the least bit shaken by the movie. The book. on the other hand, was nail-biting. Well detailed with rich characters and subtle plot twists. You will not be able to stop reading it!

I admit it: I'm an Alex Cross GEEK. Love him. (Also love Alex Delaware, but that's a different series, different author.) I have read a lot of James Patterson (even, so help me, the flying kids series), but these remain my favorites of his books, and I always look forward to the next one. They're brain-candy at its best--engaging, fun, thrilling, quick, easy reads.
