I truly struggled to work my way thru 50% of this book. I ended up not being able to truly finish it although I did skim thru to the end. I understand what the author was trying to do and I appreciate it but... Dear god the female lead is so truly insane it ended up being annoying and not funny to me.

There isn’t a woman who hasn’t been dumped by her boyfriend that wouldn’t like to do some of the things Ashleigh does in this book. Fortunately, for most of us common sense prevails and we settle for wine or chocolate. Ashleigh has no such scruples. After a two and a half year relationship with Michael, she discovers that her Mr. Right has other ideas and finds out the relationship is over via a Facebook status change. When she finally corners Michael and he drops the bad news on her, Ashleigh t...more
Getting Over Mr. Right: A Novel is a humorous look at one woman's bout of going through a break up. Almost every woman has been through some sort of break up. Some of us take it in stride and hop right back into the dating pool. Others may sulk or be depressed and want people to feel sorry for them. And maybe just maybe some people react just like Ashleigh.
Seeing how Ashleigh reacts really does put it in perspective as to how much women sometimes over think relationships. The way she was dumped...more

Even though Ashleigh is not supposed to use Facebook at work, she logs on one afternoon and finds that her boyfriend just changed his status to single. Hurt and confused Ashleigh tries desperately to get ahold of Michael but when he ignores her calls, texts and emails she sneaks into his secure building and goes crazy on him. He’s adamant that they don’t belong together and sticks to his decision.

When is a man like a harmful substance? When you destroy your life trying to get him back or stalk him.
This was enjoyable chick lit with a little voodoo and witchcraft thrown in for comic relief. Both paranormal items were the chicanery variety; there, I think to show the depths to which a desire for love can drive us. So, instead of Ashleigh getting a magical solution to her obsession and depression she has to find a way to face reality and move on.

Funny on occasion, but for the most part, just annoying. Annoying also because it's true: there is no limit to a woman's stupidity when it comes to "keeping Mr Right", etc.
I'm a sucker for a cute cover and a catchy title, so this book was a shoe in for me to read. I'm not as disappointed as other reviewers about the book, but I'm not as into it as others are either.
General summary:
Like so much chick lit (which is a genre I tend to favor), this is about a girl who thinks she's got it all only to get dumped and everything to crash around her. In her grieving process she goes a little off the deep end. She ends up with a restraining order, unhappy friends, sleeping w...more

I’ll admit right off the bat that chick lit is not my favorite genre. I’m generally more annoyed than charmed by man-crazy thirtysomethings with out of control lives. I always wonder how the heroines manage to hold any job, much less the glamorous, responsible ones they have when they seem to spend all their time drinking wine and making fools of themselves. And yet, I’ve had my heart broken and had a hard time getting over someone who wasn’t worthy of me in the first place, so I thought I might...more
I seem to remember my Mum bought this book for me a few years ago, possibly when I was going through a difficult time with a boyfriend, to cheer me up. Despite her best efforts, once I finally reached the end of this treacherous book, I didn't feel like I'd gained anything but a short temper with the story's protagonist, Ashleigh Prince.
As previously noted, I read this book a few years ago now, so can't entirely remember the plot (probably for the best) but in sum, we encounter the recently dum...more

What a horrible horrible story this is. I cannot fathom how it received all these positive reviews to which I based my purchase on!
Ashleigh is the most incredibly selfish, self-obsessed, dramatic, idiotic, unlikable character I've read about to date! I cannot believe how immature and childish she is, and I cannot believe that it took her 44 chapters to grow up!!!! And EVEN THEN, she resorted to stupidity once again by SLEEPING with her ex after he not only cheated on her, but humiliated her, bro...more

Sadly speaking, this book didn't turn out as well as I expected it to be, especially coming from one of my favourite chic lit writer - Chris Manby. For someone who was dumped via Facebook, Ashiegh took an annoyingly long time to get over his boyfriend and unshamefully committing lots of irksome and childish acts just because of this boyfriend.
I can't say I sympathise with her as Michael (The Boyfriend) had made it pretty clear that they were over and had more or less shown it in his body languag...more

Getting Over Mr Right is the first book I have read by Chrissie Manby (who I have found out is the same author Chris Manby) I found this book in the returns section of the library and decided to give a new author a try.
The Plot:
Poor Ashleigh is dumped by her boyfriend of 2 years, Michael and if this isn't bad enough the way he did it only makes things worse, he dumped her on face book. What would you do in this situation? Im sure it wouldn't be the same as what Ashleigh does! She goes out of h...more

I'm really not sure what to say about this book. It was one of those that I probably wouldn't have picked up had I not needed a second book to get free (by one get one free / 1/2 price / 3 for 2 offers are my downfall). I'm not all that familiar with the author so I didn't have any preconceived ideas about it in that way.
I suppose I could say the book was easy to read. There wasn’t really much in there to tax my brain and it’s one of those books that you can easily put down and pick up at will....more

This is the first book I've read by Ms Manby and I wasn't disappointed. I borrowed the book from my local library in the morning and finished it that evening - I couldn't put it down. Snarky Ashleigh had me laughing out loud at her antics and cringeing with embarrassment at the same time.
I found Ashleigh likeable, even though she is in complete denial about her relationship with Michael. She does some awful things and knows somewhere at the back of her mind that it's wrong, but can't stop herse...more

While there were some funny moments in this book, I mostly couldn't get past how crazy and kinda stupid the main character was being. I just didn't find her to be an appealing character for almost all of the book. I, like her friend Becky, just wanted to slap her every time she got all mopey and piney for her jerk of an ex or did something ridiculous in pursuit of getting him back. This book probably hits home for a lot of girls, but maybe I'm just not the kind of woman to empathize with this ch...more
I shouldn't have believed the hype. Reading about a woman who is clearly teetering on the edge of crazy and sheer madness isn't fun. Sure, some of her snarky remarks were a mildly amusing, but for the most part I found Ashleigh to be purely annoying. I wanted to jump into the book and shake her myself! The cover of the book talks about how the heroine is heartbroken and gets revenge, (view spoiler)...more
Seldom do I breeze through a book in less than a day, but, this book I did. Most women could relate to the heartbreak that Ashleigh, the main character goes through. Ashleigh isn't too experienced in the dating realm. She goes to a Christmas party and she meets a seemingly nice and normal man named Michael who asks her out, from then on for 2 years they date. Ashleigh imagines that they will get married or live together, even though Michael seems more than comfortable living on his own and he ne...more
This is a story that evoke much emotion in the readers mind but it makes the reader laugh at events that follows. At times the turn of events make the reader want to continue reading it. Ashley makes fool of her self and does everything to miss represent her friend’s advice, care and the impending nuptials. It appears crazy for a person to go on and marry or spend time with an established family, when a single crazy self-involved friend has been dumped as useless. Ashley turns out to be senseles...more
Ashleigh has been dating Michael for two years plus, and she figures it is just a matter of time before Michael gives her the more commitment that she is looking for. Even if he is just using his current promotion to expand his bachelor image, an upgraded bachelor pad, new sports car, new wardrobe. But, it is just a matter of time right. That is until she checks her Facebook in the middle of the day and finds that Michael is now single and then proceeds to unfriend her.

It is a rare woman that hasn't gone through a break-up that left her so heartbroken she lost her mind for a minute and does a few crazy things. But to do ALL of the things that Ashleigh did after Michael dumped her makes her a very unlikable character. And what she did to her best friend is downright despicable. I understand that she was coming from a place of pain, but geesh. As painful as it was to watch Ashleigh self-destruct, I couldn't tear myself awa...more

I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads and I want to say a resounding thank you! I was most excited to win it because it sounded like a delightful book and from the first page I realized I was right. This book was so clever and funny. From the moment Ashleigh finds out she's been dumped via Facebook she begins a journey of absolute insanity! She goes through all the usual phases of a breakup with madcap hilarity and very unique abandon. I loved the ending and it made me wish...more

Everyone has been dumped at one point. (If not... lucky you. Unless that means that you have never been in a relationship... Then... I don't know what to say about that.) But I know that I have been through incredibly dark times after bad breakups. It's just not an enjoyable time.
But to read about someone's utterly ridiculous trip in the dark times? It can be a little entertaining.

Holy crap, I was laughing so hard it was difficult to concentrate. I have never been in a formal relationship, well, one, but that only lasted like two months so I really don't count it, but I have been with friends who have had multiple relationships and most of them have been the dumped. And, they get depressed or angry, but at least they pick themselves up and go at it again. I have never, in my life, seen someone like Ashleigh behave in such a way before.

It’s always a pleasure to have a break between all my books to get into another genre. The Chick-lit has always been something different to read, something that allows to change a little my ideas.
Getting over Mr. Right was a fast read, well it’s not a big book either and the writing style is really fluid, so we can have a pleasant moment. I confess I was immediately attracted by the synopsis. Mainly when I saw the words “voodoo curse” and “witchcraft”, I knew...more

Ashleigh Prince thinks she’s found her Mr Right in Michael so when he dumps her, it comes completely out of left field. Particularly since he dumps her via Facebook. Ashleigh takes the break up incredibly hard and instead of just getting over her heartbreak gracefully and leaving him alone, she instead turns into Michael’s worst nightmare. When begging and pleading fails to win Michael back, Ashleigh decides, after a lot of Googling, that a grand gesture is in order. As Ashleigh’s bid to win Mic...more
At times, the book provided a great laugh for how insane Ashleigh handed the fall out of her relationship. Other times, it was almost cringe-worthy just how insane Ashleigh was. I had to force myself to finish the book because after a while, I began to really hate Ashleigh. I was no longer rooting for her to snap out of it and come out on top. Overall, I think this is a story woman can really relate too.. at least, everyone can attest to encountering an "Ashleigh" at some point in there lives.
PB ARC/Chicklit: I loved this book because I make fun of women like this. The writing is in first person of a delusional and drama-filled young woman, Ashleigh, who gets dumped by her boyfriend, on Facebook. After two and a half years of dating Michael, she believes him to be Mr. Right and he thinks she is Miss Right Now. She loses everything in the breakup and the fun ensues: super stalking. We’re not talking phony phone numbers; we’re talking hiding in the bushes, cyber-stalking, voodoo, arson...more
I didn't connect with the main character and I didn't agree with the things she did. I wanted her to be stronger than she was, and resist always going back to Mr. Wrong. But I understand that when people are in love, we do many things that a lot of others don't agree with. It took a lot for her to get over him.
The writing was great, and the story was cute. Too bad I didn't connect more to the main character. But this is my opinion and everyone is different.
