A short tale full of fun-that's what this novella is like!
A few thoughts:
there was no meeting and instantly falling in love.
I loved that Cindy was the werewolf.
Yes, Cindy worried a tad too much about controlling her furry side but I liked that she behaved like any teenager would.
Remy too wasn't just a lovestruck teenager, he comes to realize his responsibilities as he grows up.
I liked ho...more

She's done it again! No matter what genre she chooses, whether it's a fairy tale retelling or a witchy war, Veronica Blade knows how to bring it! A Bite's Tale was a quick, easy read, with romance, action, and teen angst in spades!

From Goodreads: "A Cinderella who spends her nights as a wolf. A prince with a taste for blood. This is more than your average fairy tale."

When Cydney Ella and Prince Remy meet in the woods when they are young, neither one wants to admit who they really are, so they ca...more

My thoughts:
This was a fun twist to the Cinderella story of old. Prince charming is a vampire. Cinderella is a werewolf. Of course there is a ball and that is where they will hook up - - - but the last time they saw each other she bit him! I enjoyed the read very much. The characters are nicely developed and easy to invest in. Dunstan, the king's advisor, is my favorite character; I found myself seeing people I know in him. The author has set her characters in a world where paranormal is norma...more

Ms. Blade has done it again! A Bite's Tales is a unique twist on Cinderella meets paranormal meets Jane Austen. I am a sucker for young first love. This is a sweet story that captivated and entranced me from the get go. I polished this off in one sitting and have a hankering to read it again. Cydeny and Remy's story has stayed with me and I find myself thinking of it often. I think it would be cool to see Cydeny's cousins stories and see them have a happy ever after. I know my daughter who is tw...more

This was a really cute YA short story. I loved the characters, and was biting my nails in anticipation to read how it would end.

I enjoyed this fun and loosely based paranormal tale on the classic Cinderella story. I love fairytale retellings so I grabbed it up when I saw it. I refer to it as a loose retelling for more reasons than that our Cinderella sprouts fur and our Prince Charming has a liquid diet. In this story, Cinderella's family and circumstances only bare distant relation to the original tale. The prince's side has a few twists too, but sticks closer to the familiar story. There is a wonderful blend of the con...more

For these two star crossed lovers, only trusting in each other will allow their hearts to take them to eternity. Many things stand in the way though social standards, secrets but most of all genetics. "Jack" has a secret, one that could make Cydney leave forever, and he is willing to do anything to make her see that he is a great guy and that this secret is nothing more than heri...more

Great story! I loved how the author combined urban fantasy and a fairytale. I loved the characters and premise so much I'm disappointed there isn't more. I would love to know what happens next and the challenges they face and growth they make!

Cinderella and Jack, as they know each other, are secret summer friends that sneak off and explore the island when she visits. Remy, better known as Jack, hides his identity and royalty from his Cinderella to ensure she likes him for him, not his title. Cyd...more

Veronica has done it again! She has created a tale that has everything in it from love to heart break to happiness. The story flows so smoothly I stayed up till 3:30am in the morning finishing the book. I needed to know what happened.

This is a story of young love and if it can stand the test of time. Cinderella meets Jack every summer in the woods where they talk and share the summer. They look forward to every year spending the summer together. Only one summer Cinderella feels her body changing...more

This short novel is a one-shot.

My thanks to Veronica Blade who gave me a free e-copy of her book. She knows how much I love her stories and her writing style. This novel is no exception.

Do you love vampires, werewolves and witches? Do you love to read tales? So, what are you waiting?

More seriously, this book is about a romance that's cute to read about. I like both characters - Cydney and Remy - that make us discover alternatively their inner voice. The st...more

When I read the synopsis of the book I was eager to read it. I have always been a fan of the Cinderella story add a paranormal twist and what could go wrong? It wasn't a grip me by the edge of my seat/unable to put it down kind of book. However, the story was cute and innocent. I would give it a PG+ rating. The plus is because they briefly mention french kissing, but it's nothing too in depth that I wouldn't suggest a younger teen reading it.

It would have been nice if the author had gone into...more

Excellent, sweet and irresistable romantic fantasy!

Cydney meets a boy, Remy, while she visits her aunt's house. They do not wish to share their identity, so they call themselves Cinderella and Jack. In three summers that Cydney met him, they began to fall in love with each other. That was the stage, when Cydney's werewolf father's gene became dormant. When Cydney received her first kiss from Remy, due to excitement, Cydney morphed into a wolf and bit Remy without control. Cydney left Remy and ra...more

As a reader who's not a big fan of the YA genre (except for a few titles) there was just something about this book that called to me. From its likable characters to its unique spin on the Cinderella story I was drawn into an intriguing world where paranormal creatures have an island/country where they can live in peace. With its nice combination of romance, political intrigue, and action I can see a long life full of stories based in this world.

The love between a prince and a werewolf starts inn...more

Veronica Blade gives us a clever retelling of the Cinderella story using a young girl (Cydney) who also happens to be a werewolf as her main character. She also populates her fairly tale world with warlocks, witches, vampires and very accommodating humans who take all these paranormal inhabitants in stride! As the story goes, Cydney meets and begins to fall in love with a boy named Jack (actually Remy the crown prince in disguise). But just as their relationship progresses from friendship to som...more

What a great read! I was completely unable to put this book down, definitely a page turner. I happen to love twists on fairy tales, and this twist on Cinderella is no exception. Veronica Blade has written an amazing novella!

The story is shown from both Remy and Cydney's POVs. The reader just can't help but feel bad for the two of them. they were great friends, completely in love, and then Cydney accidentally bites Remy and they are torn apart, Cydney not even knowing if her friend is still alive...more

Ok. Let me just start by saying I love the title! Telling people I am reading a "Furry Fable" was great to see the look on their faces.
I wonder if more of these Fables are to come?

Anyhow... to the story itself.
The introduction to the two main characters in the story was a good pace, I loved the illusions / link to classic stories that I felt were hinted at with their chosen pseudonyms.. "Cinderella" and "Jack" respectively. Even though her chosen name was very close to her real name, and was act...more

Fairy tale brought to modern world, how much do I love that! (In case you wonder, very much! I just watched A Cinderella story, Another Cinderella story and A Cinderella Story: Once upon a song)

This really isn't an ordinary Cinderella story. Cinderella is a werewolf. After a little accident, Prince is a vampire. Cinderella's cousins are the "two evil stepsisters", but it's a refreshing change to see that they're not tha...more

Imagine if Cinderella from the well-known fairy tale that we all know and love was actually a werewolf. Imagine if Prince Charming was a vampire. Hmmm.... Thus the foundation of A Bite's Tale: A Furry Fable. Now kick in Veronica Blade's enormous story telling talent, several paranormal twists and, folks, you have one outstanding, unique and astounding read.

To be honest, I have loved everything that I have read by Ms. Blade and consider her to be one of today's great talents. She proves that she...more

Aww, such a cute story! I love the traditional Cinderella story with the modern twist of vampires and werewolves (and other magical/mythical creatures). Wonderful new take on a known fairytale. You should DEFINITELY read this.

The Storyline…

This book was cute and really good. I loved the different point of views. Also how the author wrote how Cydney first turned into a werewolf. I love that the supernaturals lived amaong humans. Also that the book toook place in the present. Even though there were royals and stuff it was cool.

The Characters…

Cydney is so nice, smart, and definitely has some spunk. I felt so bad for her. Especially how traumatized she still was over what happened three years ago. Remy is so sweet and am...more

This is a fun tale about a girl who meets a boy and they decide to exchange fake names so they can escape their real lives. She calls herself Cinderella and he calls himself Jack. Every summer, she goes on vacation with her family and meets up with Jack, who's a resident on the eerie island, and each time their relationship grows. When Jack finally works up the nerve for their first kiss, Cinderella's true identity explodes (literally) and her world is turned upside down. She has to find a way t...more

My Review:

I am so excited about this book. It was so much better and even more fun than I thought that it was going to be. I promise you, if the story overview above appeals to you, then you are going to enjoy this book.

There was a lot more depth to this book than I expected. The family dynamics for both the main characters plays heavily into the story line and I really like how the original story was twisted to modernize it and make it more appealing to a modern reader. It works and it works re...more

Wow - just WOW! Veronica Blade knows how to tell a story! This is the second story I've read by this author, and I've walked away from both of them just amazed that she completely had me so wrapped up in her tale that I forgot to breathe sometimes! I found myself holding my breath in anticipation. That's saying something, since I haven't done that over a fairy tale since I was a child, and I'm a 47 year old woman *blush*.

When an writer can tell a fairy tale with a twist that is written for youn...more

A great remake of Cinderella. I couldn't stop reading once I started, so thankfully it wasn't too long or I'm sure I would have zero sleep. I have been itching for a supernatural retelling of this particular fairy tale (well, this and Romeo and Juliet, but I haven't any doubt that will be next). I loved the action and the romance! But the part I loved the most was that "Cinderella" was loved by her family instead of shunned and abused. That made the story so much better to me. I kept waiting for...more

This novella really is best described as a "furry fable." It was a lovely, fast read. It was so innocent and vivid, yet packed full of paranormal teenage angst. Very quickly, it sweeps you away into this charming urban fantasy.

Cydney Ella "Cinderella" met the boy of her dreams at 14. Jack is the prince of the kingdom, sneaking out to spend time with Cinderella but hiding his identity. Usually everyone knows he is Prince Remy, and he is treated differently, coddled. He had found simple human mome...more

This was a fun and cute retelling of the classic fairy tale. The paranormal twist gave this well known story a fun new premise and life. Cyndey is a good, quirky character realistically dealing with the problems in her life. Remi is a fun, more filled out version of the prince's character. Their romance is sweet and fun. The classic side characters are well done and finish off the tale. I did feel that the end was rushed and could have been built up a little more to give it a good background and...more

Well, let me say, thank you Making Connections, and the author for giving me a copy to read for my review! I need to say, this book is TOO CUTE!!! Cydney, aka Cinderella, visits over seas ever summer in (I think) England area... there she meets Jack (who happens to be the prince named Remy)... and hence the Cinderella story... They both wanna pretend they are someone else when they are together, so after a horrible accident, Cydney loses it, and Remy is depressed...

A Bite's Tale (A Furry Fable) - It leaves you wanting more!

A Bite's Tale (A Furry Fable) is aptly named. This delightful novella provides a supernatural take on the age old Cinderella story. Cydney, the "Cinderella", is a werewolf while the prince is a vampire.

We meet the characters while they are in their early teens. Neither one is willing to admit who they really are, but they secretly meet each other every summer until one year when Cydney's wolf loses control, leaving the prince to fight f...more

This was a great supernatural story with a fairy tale twist. I actually wanted to read more. The story is about a summer love that goes beyond summer. It’s about a prince falling in love with a not so ordinary girl. Like most fairy tales there’s a ball, only this one includes vampires, werewolves, and warlocks. Cydney and Remy’s story has so many possibilities. I would love to read more about them. I loved the way the book was written and look forward to reading more of Veronica Blade’s work. I...more

Brain candy. Cleansing your reading palate one book at a time.

Veronica Blade lives in Southern California with her husband and children. By day she runs the family business, but each night she slips away to spin her tales. She writes stories about young adults to relive her own childhood and to live vicariously through her characters. Except her heroes and heroines lead far more interesting lives...more

“The heat from his body warmed me and he leaned into me, wrapping his arms around my waist. I relaxed against him and let the back of my head fall against his chest. My eyes closed as I inhaled his scent. The metallic smell didn’t bother me so much anymore. In fact, now that it belonged to Jack, I found it enticing. I wanted to snuggle closer and get a good long whiff. The drawbacks of being a werewolf — we wanted to sniff everything.” 6 people liked it
