***SPOILER ALERT***

I am usually a big fan of Danille Steel but one book would best describe this book and that word owuld be: Trainwreck!

The story centers around the lives of Izzy, Gabby, Andy, Billy and Sean who meet on the first day of Kindergarten and form a strong friendship. Their family members are also heavily involved in the storyline which makes it very confusing to keep track of who is who in the book. Also one of the main characters (Andy) has a very weak introduction and very weak s...more

After all the "heavy" reading I've been doing, this one was really light. Maybe too light. But, sometimes, that's just what you need: an easy to read, hard to believe, fast paced novel. Now, back to literary fiction.

Amazing! It’s all I can say about how good this book is. I am speechless! Danielle Steel has done a remarkable job on the book Friends Forever. Five kindergarteners Andy, Izzie, Gabby, Sean and Billy meet each other for the first time at Atwood and have been friends ever since. They are now in college and go through many devastating challenges but stick together as a family. Enjoy this heartwarming story of five friends who go through life with struggles but they truly stay friends forever in th...more

This book is about a group of friends who become friends in kindergarten and stay close as they grow up. Their mothers are friends, and they all form a kind of family. The premise I read said that they had difficulties growing up and dealing with the real world. I thought there would be drama, romantic angst, and maybe a little tragedy. That's what it sounded like.

I'll start with the good: I couldn't put it down. I liked the characters for the most part, and they seemed like real people, despit...more

I came home from work today looking forward to getting immersed in this novel, Friends Forever, by Danielle Steel. I've been a Steel fan for years and while some of her books are sad, there is typically a positive, happy payoff. So after hearing about the senseless CT school shooting almost all day, I thought this would be a good escape. I really don't think I could have possibly picked a worse book to do this. This was an extremely depressing book with almost no let up on bad events. As a matte...more

This is definitely not a Christmas read! Not that it was advertised to be one but just letting you know that it was not a jolly book. Quite depressing actually. It practically didn't let up. I was hanging on to the hope that there will be a happy ending. Well, let's just say that I was so dispirited that it would have taken an amazingly, over-top ending to snap me out of my displeased trance.

The premise was sweet enough, from kindergarten to adulthood these five individuals demonstrated the imp...more

This is my third or fourth Danielle Steel. I have girlfriends who adore her and so I decided to give her a try since I being an Evanovich follower can admit to loving popular fiction.
She is a good story teller and I can tell why many people like her. She is however, very predictable, with no surprises. However, she has a aggravating habit of being very repetitive. She restates the situation over and over. I found myself yelling at my CD player. " I know, I know! He is dead and that means he i...more

Okay, I admit it. I'm a sucker for sunsets, romance, and what passes for happy endings in modern day. That's why blockbuster writer Danielle Steele's latest novel, ''Friends Forever' took me by surprise.

'Friends Forever' follows a group of five children who meet the first day of kindergarten at their exclusive San Francisco private school, and vow to become friends for life.

Trouble is, few of their lives get to last particularly long. In fact, these kids fall so far below the expected life spa...more

I feel like I should begin with a disclaimer. I read Danielle Steel books. I went through a phase of my life when I read through pretty much everything she had written. Then, for a while, I felt that the reality of life went so far beyond these books that they seemed contrived and unreal. Yet, I continued to read them. Recently, I have not particularly liked the books. Yet, when one comes out, I read it. That being said,...more

A typical Danielle Steel...she writes, because she wants to writes...not with an agenda, not really with a story...but she weaves such a perfect web of words that you always get caught at some point or other in her novel...this one is again a book, with no real plot...except a long, really long friendship...what better day to begin and end reading it than on a Friendship day...

The book, as the name suggest, lies in the theme of friends forever...and though the friendship of over a decade makes m...more

Admission letters from the Atwood School are like getting into Harvard or Yale with the exception that this school goes from kindergarten to twelfth grade. It carries enormous social status and most children who graduate from this school are accepted into the finest colleges including many Ivy League ones.

The first day of school for five children is what this book is about. It focus's on Billy who has his football in hand, next to arrive is Sean holding his toy gun (which was not supposed to hav...more

This was a typical Danielle Steel and a quick read, however, the content was anything but light. The premise was fun with 5 friends who remained close all the way from Kindergarten through high school and into college. SPOILER ALERT ... but then, the story took a turn for the worse and characters started dying right and left. Obviously, tragic accidents happen in life but it seems unreal to me that by the end of the story, 3 out of the 5 friends were dead as well as a sibling. What a depressing...more

I have not read any Danielle Steel books in many years; the last one I read was Big Girl a few years ago. I was excited about the plot summary of this book....5 friends meet in kindergarten, and become best friends throughout their school years and beyond. Their parents also become part of their intimate community, and the years between childhood and adulthood are marked by life experiences of our 21st century society. The characters are faced with joys and sorrows, challenges and triumphs, love...more

I've always been a sucker for Danielle Steel books and I have yet to read one that I don't end up loving by the end.

When I first started reading this book I didn't expect it to take the turn that it did and to be honest about half way through I was praying that it had a good ending and wasn't all filled with sadness. I'm all for a book having bad things happen to people because the reality of life is that bad things can happen to anyone. None of us are immune to the harsh reality of death, whet...more

I used to read just about everything Danielle Steel wrote until about 15 years ago when I felt like every story she wrote was the same and very poorly edited to boot. Friends Forever is not a typical Daniele Steel novel so I decided to give her a try again. I enjoyed the beginning of the book, I love the premise how five friends meet in kindergarten and become life long friends. But yet again this story was poorly poorly written. I felt as if I was reading the first draft (full disclosure I did...more

I was initially quite interested in this book – and loved the idea of 5 friends meeting in kindergarten and staying best friends throughout their school years and beyond. In the first few chapters I did get a bit lost and had to re-read paragraphs because we are not only introduced to the five children, but their parents as well, so it felt like we had names being thrown around everywhere, so took me a bit to get who was who and in what order!

So I got into the flow of the story and was intereste...more

Well, on the positive side, Danielle has alleviated a lot of the constant repetition that marked her style in recent books (an obvious way to fill pages), and this book read a lot better as a result. I was engaged right from the beginning to the end.

The thing is, this book is just very sad and morbid. I should have suspected that it would be going in, as she dedicated it to her deceased son, Nick. The book follows the lives and families of five young people who form a friendship in kindergarten...more

Every now and then, I pick up Danielle Steele for a really light read, not expecting much deep emotion, but a decent story and a contrast to the type of books I usually read. I have two complaints about her books: they are usually filled with way too many fashion details, and too many sentences that shamelessly begin with "And". I mean, LOTS of sentences. However, this story was a departure from her usual treatment of characters. I thought she was writing about family life and situations that sh...more

Ok, in the end I did like this book. I wish, however, I knew more what it was about, because some of the death triggered me. Very hard to listen to at times. But overall a good tragic story. I was sad at the end that it was over, but maybe she will write another book that expands on the remaining characters. The ending leaves a lot of characters unresolved, like whatever happened to Brian and Michelle?

There was some repeating, but not quite as much as in Happy Birthday. The beginning I felt more...more

This book is about the hardships a very strong friendship faces throughout the years. From leaving to go to college, to substance abuse, to divorce, this friendship is put to the test. Five strong people are become instant best friends on their first day of kindergarten, but will things always be fun and games. Their friendship is put to the test throughout this amazing, breath taking book. I really enjoyed reading this book because it always keeps you guessing. At every page theirs a different...more

I've read every book Danielle Steel has written, thanks to my Aunt Diane who loaned me Zoya when I was bored and visiting in upstate New York when I was in Middle School. I enjoy them. They're quick, easy reads. You don't have to think. The plots are pretty formulaic (which they'd have to be for her to crank the novels as quickly as she does), but she's made a ton of money and written a LOT of books for a reason. People keep reading them.

This latest one is my favorite of the last few for sure....more

I knew when I saw this book that it ran the risk of being too generic and broad but I was intrigued by the idea of it. So I read. My main issue is that, while it's an interesting idea, there is just too much going on here. I never felt particularly attached to any character. By the end, I knew better than to get attached to any one character.

I felt pretty bored with the ones she did give us a peak at.

There are a few authors that at one point I enjoyed, but who now seem to be simply following s...more

Oh to be a character in a Danielle Steel novel. Well this is not the novel I'd want to wake up in. The story centers around five BFFS from their first days of kindergarten all through High School. Along the way their parents become friends as well. On graduation night they all make a pact to always be there for each other. Shortly after graduation however, each family endures a family tragedy that no family should have to endure. Each family member and members of the Big Five cope differently wh...more

Billy, Gabby,Izzie, Sean and Andy began Kindergarden together at the prestigious Atwood Schhol, a private school in San Francisco. The five of the became close friends on day one and their friendship continued through their graduation as 12th graders. To their classmates, they were known as the big five: Billy the athlete, Gabby the actress, Sean who was destined for law enforcement, Andy the brain and Izzy the nurturer, best friend to all, the glue that united all of them.

Through adolescence, d...more

the story was scarier than the look on the front cover. It started bright how 5 kids meet in a kindergarten at Atwoods k-12 prestigious school. Gabby, Izzy, Sean, Billy, and Andy are friends for life. They all had goals in life billy wants to play in the NFL, Sean want to work as a police officer growing up, andy doctor like his parents, gabby in fashion, and Izzy is unsure. They all go to college of their dreams.

I say this book has scary twists because gabby dies from a drunk driver around the...more

I liked and hated this book at the same time. Steele hits you over and over with tragedy. I gave the book three stars but its more like a 3.5. The book is about five families who have five children the same age that meet on their first day of kindergarten; Billy, Sean, Izzie, Gabby, and Andy. The story unfolds these five families relationships with each other and the world. There is a lot that goes on in the twenty years this book goes over, sadness, loss, happiness, independence, grief, marriag...more

I've read a lot of Danielle Steel's books, and while none of her recent ones (in my opinion) are as good as some of her earlier books, this one was just plain lousy. Ms. Steel is certainly a prolific writer, but not a very good writer. This book has too many characters - none of whom are well-developed, none of whom are particularly interesting, and most of whom are one-dimensional and stereotypical. The story is of 5 friends, who meet in kindergarten at an exclusive private school in San Franci...more

I have read a lot of Danielle Steel's books over the years, and some are much better than others. The premise of this book is 5 friends meet in kindergarden and their lives become intertwined from that point onwards. The story follows them through all their growing up years and beyond. Danielle does a good job on developing the characters and the relationships and both are quite believable. Where this book stumbles and where the story dips into unreality, in my opinion, is in the number of trage...more

Since 1981, Ms. Steel has been a permanent fixture on the New York Times hardcover and paperback bestseller lists. In 1989, she was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for having at least one of her books on the Times bestseller list for 381 consecutive weeks. But Guinness was premature. The fact is that one or more of Ms. Steel's novels have been on the New York Times bestseller list for...more
