WARNING: This review will not be coherent and most definitely a rage as I am pissed. That is all.

Emerson: A short poem I have composed and to be sung to the tune of ‘Georie Peorgie,’ the first half and at the second half, to ‘Humpty Dumpty’ lies below. The rest of the verse is purely improvised. Mostly.

Tried to be spunky and made the kids cry
She terrorized the readers and made them beg, “Emerson, be gone, fowl beast! Stay away!”

Yes, I was one of the people slobbering over the cover and didn't pay too much attention of what the book was really about. Then I heard two words, time travel and I had no choice but to read it of course. I'm confused with my feelings for this one. The "feelings" I have are too all over the place. I loved some of things and some things really bothered me, but I will definitely be reading the sequel Timepiece.

Holy crap, I could not put down Hourglass! I downloaded the sample on my iPad and read the first three chapters twice before getting the book. (I really wanted a hardcover for this book. :P) When I started reading it, at chapter four, I got annoyed when anybody interrupted me while reading it. I was interrupted a lot because it was cleaning + moving horses day. Thus why it took me all fracking day to finish this story.

So, read Hourglass when your d...more

I could not stop reading Hourglass until I got to the last page. This book is a mix of romance, plot twists, and wicked mystery. I was so into this book I may have forgotten to go to sleep. So I stumbled upon this book and read the description and I was like what is this book about. It feel like the cover, book title, and book description is all a mystery of what the contents of this book contains. I was curious, so I had to crack open the book and once the book was open I could not close it.

Hourglass was an incredibly impressive debut.

I was captivated from the very first page. Emerson is an irresistible character, I loved everything about her. Her snark, stubbornness, selflessness.... vulnerabilities. She was a very likable character, and I don't think the story would have been that impressive without her. Her relationship with Michael was heartfelt and warm, it just felt natural, no insta-love for these two.

There were aspects of the novel that I didn't anticipate at all! And I don...more

I am a wreck. A complete and total wreck. This book has left me a jumbled mess and I spent a good 10 min willing more words to appear on the blank pages. This book is so f***ing unbelievable. Put it on your wishlist...you don't want to miss it!!! Because 5 stars isn't a high enough rating...

I caught myself rolling my eyes at how hot she found him. Throughout the book, Emerson could not get over how good Michael looked. She was all, “His classic looks, his lips, his clothes, even his muscles (even saying his muscles have muscles!)” So, yes, there were plenty eye roll, head-meet-table moments. Then I realized I was being too critical and actually expecting it to suck. Once I recognized these, let go of some of my expectations, things got a little better. Yes, there’s a lot of the sam...more

Hourglass was a heart-stopping, adrenaline filled read that captivated me from start to finish. Though Myra Mcentire is only a debutant her work shows effortless writing and iconic wit that will make her books an insta-buy in my local store.

Ever since the horrific accident that claimed her parents, Emerson has been able to see the phantoms or ‘rips’ of those who lived before her time. After multiple stints in therapy and endless...more

I love storylines that are new and different, not to mention AMAZING, and HOURGLASS definitely fits into those categories! This book rocked. That is it. If you have eyes read it. If you cant read get someone to read it for you because you just don't want to let this one pass you by. I love it. Period. The main character is on the Kick Ass Chicks League accompanied by ladies non other than Katniss Everdeen (Hunger Games), Rose Hathaway (Vampire Academy), and Cat (The Night Huntress Series). She is quick, she is witty, she is phenomenal. Even if the entire plot were to suck (...more

I was excited to read Hourglass. I mean how could you not be with such an intriguing synopsis and gorgeous cover. And while I ended up really enjoying Hourglass I did struggled at the beginning.

The start was a bit slow for me. It lacked that something special that makes you get caught up in the story and care about what is happening. But half way through things changed and there was action, plot twists and chemis...more

This is by far the greatest and most clever young adult book I have ever read.

I purchased the HOURGLASS ebook, because I couldn't get to the book store this morning. My husband said, "Fine, but please don't turn around and buy the hardback next week." I wasn't sure at the time. I told him we'd see. He rolled his eyes.

See, I have a thing for owning the actual books, but I can't own them all. Not until I'm rich, which I WILL be one day. Until then, ebooks are great for feeding my expensive reading...more

Review to come, but oh my can Myra write.

I have said and will say, I always want to be friends with her characters. Add to that the positively YUMMY boys, and a killer plot, and you have a WINNER.

This book took my breath away; from the very first page of being introduced to Emerson (love that name, btw!) to the very last page of the very last chapter. I really thought this was just another time traveling tale but it turned out to be a lot more (think about a bunch of kids with powers and ability to time travel).

Now, time traveling stories are hit and miss with me. You can't be too scientific or you'll lose me entirely. And though I couldn't quite make the connection with genetics and tim...more

Emerson Cole began to see people that weren't actually there right before her parents passed away. Relying heavily on the ghostly visitors attire to discern if they were real or an unwelcome "blast from the past". Emerson's condition caused numerous embarrassing situations, as well as her eventual admittance to a mental hospital.

The Emerson we meet in Hourglass has come a long way since she was a ghost seeing patient at the local loony bin. She seems like any other teen girl, but really she has...more

Hourglass by Myra McEntire is hefty, not gonna lie, you could smack someone with it and do some serious damage, however, it is totally engaging! You see, main lady Emerson Cole sees iterations of people from the past. This is a problem for Emerson, as no else can see these people, so she’s not sure if they are real or not. (Also upon reading those last three words, did you automatically think Mockingjay?!) Her brother/guardian Thomas hires a lot of loonies to try and help Em, but none of them se...more

In some weird, twisted way, I actually kind of liked this book.

Everyone seems to be complaining about Emerson. Honestly, I don't see all that much wrong with her, besides the fact that she wants to cheat on Micheal the second Kaleb touches her. In fact, Emerson actually amused me. You have to be pretty awesome (and skilled) to flip a grown man over your shoulder. God knows I was terrible at Karate.

Seriously, how the hell do they do that?

Anyway, the person I hate most in this book is Micheal, no...more

While I did enjoy Hourglass, my "being hooked on the story" status briefly came to a screeching halt when (view spoiler)[the characters and their special abilities morphed into X-Men complete with a school/organization collecting them and teaching them how to manage their abilities. Really? (hide spoiler)]. I'm not sure why that was necessary for this tale, but once I shook off the why is that?, what just happened?, I jumped back into the story.

2.5 stars... But I'll be nice and pit 3!

I was really looking forward to this one due to all the wonderful reviews, but unfortunately I was really let down.

Where to even begin? This book was an absolute mess! I have read some pretty crappy books that have better organization then this. It was really cliche, and straight out boring. There was a part in the beginning that reminded me of "The Timetravelers Wife" where they meet before they really meet... confusing I know, but other than that it jus...more

I shamelessly traded a pair of fingerless mitts for this ARC, and I'm really, really glad I did.

Here's a secret: I think about time travel a lot. Probably more than the average girl. (Probably not as much as Myra or her characters.) When it comes to time travel in books and movies, I can drive myself insane finding paradoxes and getting annoyed by characters who don't consider the consequences of their actions or use their ability to its potential.

Not so with HOURGLASS.

When I first started reading for pleasure again, one of the first books I picked up was The Time Traveler's Wife. I easily fell in love with the writing, the romance, the heartache and the characters. Since then, I've been looking for a book that not only captures my heart the way The Time Traveler's Wife did, but also hooks me into the story line. Well folks, I think I found that book. Hourglass is a sensational debut novel that trapped me into the story within the first few pages.

This book blew me away – probably because I wasn’t expecting to fall so thoroughly in love with it. I went in thinking it was a ghost story, due to the summary on the back cover, but I was completely wrong. It’s a fantastic blend of paranormal and science fiction, at times reminding me of elements of Harry Potter and X-Men, both of which I love. Hourglass has so many great twists, some I saw coming and some that completely blind-sided me in th...more

This was an amazing book. I loved Emerson's sarcastic personality. Her abilities, and the abilities of those in the Hourglass, were so interesting. There were twists that I was totally not expecting. This will definitely be re-read in the future.

And...as of June 13th, 2012 it has been re-read. Just as awesome as the first time. So glad I read it again...I kinda forgot some of the story until I got started again.

I had high hopes for Hourglass because of some good reviews I read, but they did not meet my expectations. In a few lines, Hourglass is about Emerson a girl who sees ghosts and thinks she's going crazy. Thankfully, her brother contacts Michael, who works for an organization called The Hourglass, and says he can help. Michael knows there is more to Emerson's "gift" of seeing ghosts, and so we get into an entertaining story of supernatural abilities regarding bending time, and a que...more

Huge disappointment. After reading so many glowing reviews, I was really excited about this book, only to find that it's nothing new or special. We have our standard YA love triangle with, of course, two incredibly hot guys, our spunky yet incredibly annoying female lead with her very own tragic past, and predictable plotline. Honestly, I had to put the book down after every few chapters because I was getting so frustrated.

Hourglass to me was one of those books you keep looking at and saying you're going to read it, but never get to it. And once you do you ask yourself "why the heck did I wait so long to read it?" I loved it!

In the very beginning I didn't think that I would love Hourglass because I was a little annoyed with the main character Emerson. I felt she was very immature and I thought for sure I wasn't going to like her. But somewhere down the line in the book she matures, a lot. Emerson had a very hard t...more

“Hey, bro, do you think you can put Shorty back on her chain?"
I stepped forward with my hands on my hips, only slightly intimidated to find Kaleb almost eye level with me when he was seated and I was standing.
"First of all, no one is the boss of me but me. Secondly, if you ever reference my 'chain' again, I will kick your ass." I jabbed him hard in the chest with my finger. Possibly breaking it. "And thirdly, don't call me Shorty."
Kaleb sat silently for a second, his eyes wide as he looked at Michael. "Where did you get her? Can you get me one?"
I blew out a loud, frustrated sigh and dropped down beside Michael, who didn't even try to hide his smile. "You should probably apologize to Emerson."
"I am sorry." Kaleb grinned at me. "Sorry I didn't meet you first.”
