Sometimes life can change in an instant. The plans that we had laid out in front of us, the goals in life we had hoped to achieve, even a simple dinner plan with friends can be changed in the blink of an eye. That is just what happened to the Barrick family. One minute they were on their way home from an event at church where they watched their daughter, Jen sing in the church choir and preparing for dinner at their house to celebrate with family and friends. However when a drunk driver slammed ...more

Miracle for Jen is the miraculous story of a teenaged girl whose life was radically changed the night a drunk driver hit her family’s van while they were returning home from church. Although her Mom and Dad, and brother were injured, Jen received the blunt of the crash and ended up in a coma for five weeks. As her parents, Andy and Linda, slowly recovered from their multiple injuries, they continued to faithfully

The Bible says that the Holy Spirit living inside a Christian is like a treasure hiding in an earthen vessel. What happens when the fragile vessel housing that precious treasure cracks and breaks? The brokenness provides an even greater opportunity for God’s Spirit to shine.

Just so, my friend’s mother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, could not remember her own name but somehow knew every word of her favorite hymns and Bible verses. Or my learning-disabled student, who could barely retain enough

This book touched me profoundly which is what makes writing this review so hard , because how do you write a review about a book that rocks you to the core? , how can you properly convey that? I'm going to try to the best of my ability to explain what is so great about this book. Miracle Jen to me was a modern relive story of Job. Many people believe that now days Miracle only happen to in the Bible, but after reading Miracle Jen and seeing what this family persevered through , I don't know anyo ...more

I’m not even sure where to start with this book — it was so unbelievably moving that I felt at a loss for words when I finished reading it. Miracle for Jen is the story of Jennifer Barrick, who was in a car accident one night, after a church performance, with her parents and her brother. Everyone suffered injuries, but Jennifer’s was the most severe. In fact, the doctor’s didn’t even th

A tragic yet amazing true story of the struggle and recovery of a family only through the power of God.

What a mix of sadness and enlightment this story has been. I like no one else on earth can even begin to fanthom Gods plans, or reasoning, for why this accident happened to the Barrick family, or the miracles that have come after. Sometimes we may assume that because we are already in a relationship with God we are safe from evil. It can be even more heart-wrenching to struggle with feelings of

The Barrick family is coming home one evening when their lives are forever changed. A drunk driver hits them head on and all of them sustain injuries that put them in the hospital. But the daughter, Jen, will never be the same. What begin as prayers for recovery turn into prayers of acceptance and prayers for guidance. It's clear that God has plans for Jen and the family is learning to adapt.

This book was very well written. I was able to read it all in one evening. I was riveted from the very be

My Thoughts: Barrick doesn't mess around with a sweet intro but rather jumps right into the horrific awareness of knowing she'd been in an accident, was injured, trapped and was unable to assist her husband or children. The story of her recovery along with that of the rest of her family especially of Jen is heart wrenching. There were times I couldn't keep reading through the tears in my eyes.
Barrick focuses on her daughter Jen, most seriously injured and not expected to survive. She tells of mi

It is hard to know where to start with this book. Here is a story that could totally have been avoided, it should never have happened. A drivers license suspended, a driver slumped over his steering wheel, pulled over by the police just minutes before the accident. But still it happened. How does a mother (family) get past that? Told from the point of view of Linda Barrick, Jen's mother. Here is an emotional packed book that grabbed me and I had a hard time putting this book down.

Miracle for Jen
by Linda Barrick, John Perry

It was the night of November 5, 2006. As the Barrick family returned quietly home from church, their van was struck out of the blue by a drunken, hit-and-run driver. Jen, aged fifteen, suffered the most extensive multiple skull fractures and severe brain trauma. Unbelievably, inexplicably, against all odds, she survived. After five weeks of lingering in a coma, she suddenly opened her eyes, praying and praising God. She conversed with God in perfectly i

I don't believe in luck, either good or bad. Our entire life and every detail is permitted by God who created us and reading Jen's story has only deepened my faith. A loving family who were hit head on by a drunk driver and the events that followed were at times hard to read, I found myself choking on tears when Jen's mother Linda was describing what it was like to see her child clinging to life while the doctors tried to prepare them to say goodbye or at least be prepared for her never being ab ...more

I found this book very inspiring. It was a great reminder of so many things - putting full and complete trust in God, even when you don't understand His reasons was the biggest for me. A call to re-invigorate my prayer life, to make it come alive more, to spark that fire and get it blazing.

With being a student at Liberty, I have had the opportunity to interact with the Hindson and Barrick family multiple times, even having "Papa Ed" as a professor and Linda as a guest lecturer for one of my women's ministry classes. This book was so encouraging to hear, though I knew the story before hand. It is so neat to see where Jen is now and how years later her life is still a testimony and true dependence on the Lord. If you want a book to greatly encourage your faith and that God truly doe ...more

What a beautiful, beautiful book! Jen's story, as described by her mother, is incredible and very inspiring. Despite the many problems that the Barrick family have had to go through after the accident, the family still stay strong in terms of having complete trust and faith in the Lord in allowing Him to direct their lives on the right path that honors and obeys His will. I am truly touched to a point where I not only want, but need to see and experience the power of God through Jen's eyes and n ...more

Sometimes we need to be reminded that God can use us despite our short comings and faults. We need to be shown God’s strength is shown best in our own weakness. If you need this reminder, this book is an excellent choice for doing that.

From the first chapter I was captivated by this story. It was told like I imagine Linda would tell it if I was sitting in her living room, hearing what God had done in her life, and in

What can I say? It always amazes me how God can use even the most hopeless of situations for his good purpose. Jen Barrick is a living testimony to God's healing power and grace in her life. There were times when I laughed, there were times I cried, and also times I was shaken to the core by the absolute horror of what the Barrick family had to go through. Miracle for Jen challenged me to step back and look at how I am living for God in my life.

Jennifer Barrick is a faith-full teenager who wants to be used by God in big ways. But, due to her quiet demeanor, she prays often for boldness to share her faith. One night, on the way home from a concert, the Barrick family's lives are forever changed when they are involved in a horrific car accident which leaves Jen severely brain damaged.

The book is told from her mother, Linda's, point of view, as this is ultimately a book about a family. The faith of the whole family is tested through this

A book about a horrible accident and the survivors.

Linda Barrick has a powerful story to tell and she's poured it all out in this book. While she and her daughter doing public speaking events, this book details the events of the car accident and incredibly long road to recovery.

The Barrick family was driving home from church when a drunk driver sped away from a police officer and smashed into their vehicle. Jen received the brunt of the injuries and doctors didn't think she would ever recover. B

This has to be one of the best books I have ever read. The amazing miracle God performed was awe-inspiring to read about. While reading this book, I really took a look at myself in the mirror. How close am I in my relationship with God? Do I trust Him in everything? Do I make time in my day to spend with my Creator, the One who should be the most important person in my life? I was so convicted. Thank you so much, Lord, for showing me that ANYTHING is possible through you! Give me faith, Father!

Jennifer Barrick at a young age would write in her journal about how she wanted to be used by God in a great way.
One day as her family was coming home from a concert at church, tragedy struck. The van they were riding in was hit by a drunk driver. Jennifer was injured and in a coma.
The Doctors tell her family and friends that she will not be the same when she wakes.

The Doctors were right, God transformed Jennifer into a walking and talking testimony for His glory.
And what and a great testimony t

Growing up in Lynchburg, I knew about this family when the accident happened. I never have known them personally, but many of the names mentioned in the book are familiar, having been around the TRBC and Liberty community for a long time. This story of miraculous survival in the face of a life-altering car accident is one that encourages your faith in God in the midst of horrific circumstances. Reading the account of the events leading up to the accident and immediately following the collision c ...more

This is an amazing story about an amazing girl. However, it wasn't written the best. About have way through there wasn't anything new the author was saying. It had become repetitive, in fact I started skimming through parts of it for that reason. The book could have been cut in half and made more of an impact.

This was an amazing story that can't help but shake up your faith and make you think. Jen and her family had an experience none of us would ask for or want for our kids, and yet it was God's perfect plan for them, and through it many have come to Christ. Would we be willing to serve Him passionately if it meant changing everything? If it meant pain, daily struggle, and never going back to "normal"? Would I? Could I trust God? Jen's accident was the answer to her prayer that God use her in a prof ...more
