From a blog post I wrote in 2007:
If you're expecting You've Been Warned by James Patterson and Howard Roughan to be a 'typical' Patterson book, you're going to be disappointed.
Sure, there are short chapters and a first person narrative. But, other than that it's not at all what you'd expect.
The story revolves around a young woman in New York City who's got secrets in her past and present, obsessions for her camera and her married boyfriend, serious nightmares More...

Wow, after reading the reviews on this book I'm shocked!
I really enjoyed this book and read it in a few hours, I couldn't put it down! Everyone else thinks differently tho. I think alot of people were disapointed with the ending. I loved it. It makes you think and lets you solve some of the things yourself. I'm torn on reading reviews because there are so many people that just tell you what the story is and how it is going to end. Kristin's major problem --- besides being involved with a gentleman who, as Patterson and Roughan subtly let us know, isn't going to be making any changes on the home front anytime soon --- is that her life seems to be coming unraveled. Some of her pictures have acquired an unusual transparency; she's having bizarre nightmares that have her screaming, even when she's awake; she witnesses an odd crime scene at a hotel that apparently never happened; and strangers are coming up to her on the stree

I found this book confusing. At first I thought the narrator was phychic, then I thought she was crazy nuts. The ending wrapped the book up in a tidy little package, but the getting there was painful for me. The narrator was a very troubled woman who spends the book making bad decisions which is where I thought the book title came from. I got a bit lost in the timeline trying to figure out what was real and when it happened. This is not a book to read when you are tired. You need your wits about

The worst book he has written. Don't waste your time unless you have nothing else to do. Very disappointed

The best way I can explain this book is that it is a really poor attempt at creating a story that would do The Twilight Zone or M. Night Shamalan proud. It fails on most accounts as it becomes a novel that is bogged down in an ability not to ramble on and on.
Kristin, a young nanny from Boston who moved to New York three years earlier, finds herself truly in love with Michael. He is sweet, romantic, and everything she could ever want ... and more. The problems is that "more" More...

You've Been Warned is another really fast page turner- like all of Patterson's books. But, You've Been Warned is completely different then the rest of his books. It's a Stephen King plotline, but a James Patterson writing style. Which i thought was sort of cool. But, it bothered me that it was Stephen King, because i kept thinking, "How is Patterson going to make this real again?!" But, it never happened!
Anyway, You've Been Warned is a book about a photographer/ nanny, More...

I have tried to read this book before but I never made it through. This was not a normal James Patterson book. Normally I can not put the book down and must read it in one night. This book took two times and two nights. The main character Kristin sees dead people, is having an affair with a married man who happens to be the father of the kids she nannies, and she is being followed. There was so much going on in this book it was easy to get confused. Kristin wants the man to divorce his wife. She

Weird doesn't even describe You've Been Warned By James Patterson. You've Been Warned is completely different then the rest of Patterson's books. The book was confusing, it makes you think and lets you solve some of the things yourself. It was way beyond the weird type of book that nobody wants to read, yet i found this book enthralling, I couldn't put it down. In fact I started to read it this morning (October 29th,2011,)at about 10 AM, and finished it in a matter of hours. The book was a psych

Patterson has done it once again!! This book was very hard 2 put down with its psychological & supernatural thrill ride, I did not want 2 out the book down until I was finished wit it. A girl whose dream is 2 becum a famous photographer has an affair wit the husband of the wife whom she works 4 as the nanny 2 their kids. He is a rich contractor & her in the words of the husband & mistress a bitch. When the tables r turned & the husband finds his wife cheating on him wit another mind, even thou h

I'm a big Patterson fan. I've liked everything of his that I've read so far with the exception of 'The Lake House' and it appears that this will have to be one of those books that I didn't really like all that much.
'You've Been Warned' follows the actions of selfish photographer/nanny Kristin Burns as she has an affair with the father of the children she takes care of. Soon things start to unravel as strange things happen and she starts hearing this tune she can't get out of her hea More...

In You’ve Been Warned, Kristin Burns is working a nanny, even though she really wants to be a professional photographer. She seems like she is about to get the man of her dreams for keeps and she has found children whom she loves. Life begins to get odd for her though, and she must figure out just what is going on before life catches up with her.
Once again I find myself disappointed in a co-authored book by Patterson. Why do I bother reading his co-authored books you ask? Well becau More...

The book it pretty cool and intense. She is a photographer, Kristin has a dream of a hotel with four dead people being caried out, until one of the body moves. The next day it comes true and she is hearing music in her mind. More wierd things happen during the day. One day she sees her father who has been dead for twenty years. He says "I can't help you,Kristin, you are to solve it by yourself. She sees a man saying one day,"You've been warned." She thinkds she is going scazy.

Kristin Burns is making her way in New York City. Her photos are being considered at a major Manhattan gallery, she works by day with two wonderful children, and the man of her dreams is almost hers for keeps. But just as everything she's ever wanted is finally within reach, her life changes forever--with one murderous nightmare. Kristin wakes up every morning from the same chilling, unforgettable dream. And suddenly, it's visiting her during the day too. As her life turns stranger by the minute

Since it's been a bit since I've read this one, not to mention all the turmoil in the family right now, I don't have much of a review to add.......but, of course, I'll be adding the blurb, as usual.James Patterson is one of my favorite authors, with his Alex Cross series being my favorite of all. You've Been Warned was a bit lacking. You would think I had absolutely loved it being as how it took me one day to finish it, but, really, it was just Meh. Lackluster, I'd say. And it seemed to jump fro

It would seem as if some of Patterson's greatest novels are those in which he teams up with Howard Roughan, because like Sail, this was also one of my favorite Patterson novels. Likewise, Honeymoon is on my list of favorites as well, one which was also written with Roughan. What makes You've Been Warned so unique, however, is that Patterson sort of strays away from his usual detective story and instead makes use of some supernatural elements in the story, something that really caught my attentio

Wow. Talk about a disappointing book.
This is written from a first person standpoint and some of the things the main character says (or thinks) are ridiculous. The main character is a 26-year old woman. I'm only 18 and even I was like "... what?" at how much James Patterson relies on overused stereotypes and flat out awkward phrases he thinks are appropriate for her age bracket. On the flip side, the other half of the book (in which she doesn't sound like a vapid airhead), s More...

Well, this was certainly an odd book. Another of Patterson's that I could hardly put down. He sure has a way of drawing you into a book. The ending was...weird. It certainly was a different kind of book for Patterson, but I enjoyed it.

well i have to say that i found this book hard to put down but it was more for trying to find out what the hell was going on. there was a lot of back and forth of when the time was. then at the end of the book the author's note says "what you just read is the nightmare of anybody who believes in the afterlife. Obviously the story is an allegory about the horrors of an eternity in Hell." So after reading that i was just like are you freaking kidding me. That sort of explains the whole b

There was some suspense, especially as to whether or not she'd survive at the end, but this wasn't your typical Patterson book. It had some of his trademark detective elements and the usual short chapters that keep the pages flipping, but there was a supernatural element to it that left you empathizing with Kris as she tried to figure out what was real and what wasn't.
Kris keeps dreaming about 4 bodies at a hotel near her work. She sees the bodies wheeled out and then one of the bags unzips, a f More...

Trying to put this book into a genre is quite difficult. It is part science fiction, part mystery, part psychological thriller and part romance. Therein lies the problem with this book for me. It came across as a jumble of ideas that didn't quite gel together.
The main character is Kristin Burns, an avid photographer. She works as a nanny for Michael and Penley Turnbull’s two adorable children. The real trouble starts when she begins an illicit affair with the Michael, a successful b More...

Last month I reviewed The Quickie by James Patterson & Michael Ledwidge, It was my first foray into the prolific world of James Patterson and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed that book. But I remained leery, yet curious about Patterson's mass market appeal- was he really that good or was it novelty?
You've Been Warned starts off flat and somewhat similar to The Quickie. Our main character, Kristin Burns, is a nanny and aspiring photographer. She's having an affair with More...

I absolutely LOVE James Patterson! This is an excellent book! I literally could not put it down! After reading a few negative reviews of this book, I wasn't too excited to start it. Well, contrary to what some people wrote, I was hooked starting with page one! "You've Been Warned" is full of suspense, and I absolutely couldn't wait to get to the end to find out what was going on with Kristin. I was trying to figure out what was happening throughout the entire book, and it all mad

This book really is the epitome of trashy fiction. I'm convinced that James Patterson should stop trying to write from a female perspective, because it just doesn't work. The more James Patterson I read, the more I'm developing a picture of him in my head of some creepy fat dude who lives in his mom's poorly lit basement, tapping away on the keyboard to a computer given to him in 1999. Of course I know that Patterson is a wildly successful author and is making tons of money. So surely that isn't

This book is fast-paced in classic James Patterson fashion. I'm on the edge of my seat, er, bed waiting to see what happens next. Sleep has evaded me because the answers in this book are so elusive. Or, maybe I can't sleep because I am absolutely terrified and sympathizing with the main character's fear. Is she the hero or the bad girl? That's all I know, so far...

I really enjoyed this James Patterson book, as I started on Saturday and only had the time to read a few chapters. By the time I got home and began reading again, I didn't put it down and wouldn't go to bed until my husband came to bed because I felt so uncomfortable...it is quick reading with a little scare to it. In some ways predictable, others, not so much.

This was a very interesting but confusing book at times. The story line is great though. It is about a women who is reliving the same tragedy for eternity I guess you can say but in an interesting way. I read this book in one day because it was so good I didn't want to put it down. I hope you all enjoy the book as much as I did.
