Lots of fun! I really liked the rhyme scheme and this would make a fabulous read aloud with the kids joining in:
"If the ghosts in the trees wibble-wobble your knees, what do you say?
BOO!"
"If a smug, ugly bug tries to give Mom a hug, what do you say?
BOO!"
I also enjoyed how the children frighten themselves while they are out trick-or-treating. I think that is a delicious part of Halloween for little ones, the wanting-to-be-scared bit or frightening-yourself bit (but within the realm of safe play/p...more

Halloween is full of frightful and scary things! What do you do if everything becomes too scary? Just say Boo! This story follows three young trick-or-treaters as they encounter frightening Halloween antics in their neighborhood. To overcome their fear, they shout, “Boo!” and suddenly things aren’t so scary anymore. The text is presented in a patterned rhyme and flows easily from one encounter to the next. The illustrations begin on the title page and start the story, so don’t skip past them! Th...more
LOVE THIS BOOK!!! I have discovered the inner child within <3
This is my favorite of the three Halloween children's books I received from Harper Collins for review, and I think it was actually meant for a younger audience than the other two. Being the whacky, fun-loving person that I am, I highly enjoyed this book. Susan Hood presents us with various situations to say "Boo!" and other Halloween-related words in a fun and highly entertaining way that parents and their young children will enjoy...more

The book to read before trick-or-treating. Henry's charming illustrations, combined with Susan Hood's playful text, show young children how to dispel their Halloween fears by making trick-or-treat time fun and silly. The call and answer format of the text makes the book a lively read-aloud and elicits numerous shouts of "BOO!"

Getting ready for Halloween, children might be afraid of some things that happen that particular night, but this book lets them know it is ok and what to do...just say Boo! Not everything you see or hear has to scare you, but you can make a game out of it. It also teaches children to say thank you when they go trick or treating.
I received a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

This will work wonderfully in a Halloween storytime with little ones who are often a bit frightened by all the scary decorations they see as they trick-or-treat. The rhyme is solid and the art does a good job of showing kids that what they think looks scary is actually not scary after all. Love the message that when kids are afraid, they can use their words and just say "Boo!"
Halloween -- Juvenile fiction
This is an ok book. It would work for storytime and I could bet that the children would like it. That being said, the illustrations are ok. A timid little trick-or-treater learns to overcome his fears on Halloween by saying, "BOO!"
I would use it for my storytime if I couldn't get other materials, but it would not be my first choice.

This is absolutely adorable! I just regret that I didn't discover it in my pile before Halloween, but at three years old my daughter is right at the stage where she sees things and asks lots of questions weeks later so instead of celebrating Halloween as a day, it's turned more like weeks of Halloween. LOL
This is a great read aloud and very family oriented and I love that. Great for classes, libraries or just home. I'm sure we'll read it year round but it is a fabulous fall and Halloween read a...more

Just Say Boo! was a very cute story. I loved the messsage, which was "Halloween Etiquette" such as when to say "Trick or Treat" or "Boo!" and to say "Thank You". The illustrations were gorgeous, funny, and sweet. This is a story that my 4-year old has asked to read multiple times and she really has fun with it.
What an adorable Halloween read! I loved this story makes the some of the scarier things of Halloween fun for kids. For example, "If a yip and a yowl make you shiver and scowl, what do you say?" "BOO?" Kids are not only treated with some with incredibly warm and fabulous illustrations, they get a fun story, with easy to read words, and in the process learn a little Halloween adequacy as well. Like to say "Trick or Treat", "Thank You" and when something scares them, say "BOO!". This is a book tha...more
If you are going to get just one Halloween book this season, this is the one! Head out trick-or-treating with three siblings dressed up as a witch, a bat and a shark. The neighborhood is filled with others out on Halloween, but there are still moments when you can be scared. So what happens when you get a wobble in your knees from ghosts in the trees? Or a wolf howls nearby? Or the wind whips and whines through the trees? You say BOO!

A great Halloween read aloud! Each page of rhyming text encourages audience participation and illustrations show trick or treaters having a fun night.
