3rd degree by James Patterson and just wow...... It was amazing. This is the third book in the women’s murder club ,I loved the first one it was amazing
The second book, while I loved I didn’t really get into it as much as the first and then there was this one it was shocking. Not in a bad way in a good way. It had me so shocked James Patterson books can do that to you. They are really quick reads and have so many twists and turns leaving you wanting to read more.
On the front cover it says “on...more

In this third offering in the Women's Murder Club series, "3rd Degree" starts off with a bang. Literally. Lt. Lindsay Boxer, SF Homicide Detective, is out jogging along, admiring a town house she sees on the street. And then it explodes right in front of her. After calling for help, she rushes in and finds two dead bodies...and a child, whom she rescues.

What happens in the subsequent days will soon be declared a war of sorts. But who is at the hub of this activity? And who will be next on the ta...more

I have to say, 3rd Degree was so much better than its predecessor, 2nd Chance. 3rd Degree was much more action packed, twisty-turny, topsy-turvy, and all around a great book to read. There were "awww" moments, "what the hell?!" moments, and "hell yes!" moments. This book gave me one of the biggest surprises I have experienced all year and I honestly can't wait to find out what happens in the next book, 4th of July. The characters in 3rd Degree are more pronounced, more outspoken, and I feel like...more

James Patterson is basically running a mystery novel factory, and it shows in this book. The novel goes through the motions acceptably enough--there are clues and ratcheting tension and figures come back from the past and deaths of people close to the protagonist and a love interest. But the entire thing feels rather formulaic and thin.

Somehow, despite shocking revelations and stunning returns from the dead, you're never quite shocked or stunned. There isn't enough of an emotional connection est...more

James Patterson and Andrew Gross- 3rd Degree (Warner Books 2005) 3.75 Stars

Detective Lindsay Boxer is going for a jog when a house explodes nearby. Rushing inside she saves one child, but also locates three dead bodies. As a threatening message turns up, more people begin to die. Her crew is back together to help her solve this case, and this time one of them is in grave danger, in the sights of a merciless killer.

I loved the introduction for this book, it grabbed my attention right off the bat,...more

Third in Women's Murder Club series is a shocker!

Back from "1st To Die" and "2nd Chance", the Women's Murder Club finds terror in unexpected places in this third outing. Starring San Francisco PD Homicide Lt. Lindsay Boxer, friends newspaper reporter Cindy, Medical Examiner Claire, and Asst. District Attorney Jill have somewhat larger roles than the light supporting cast they portrayed in the two earlier books. We're also glad to see the adolescent dialogue from the last pairing of Gross and Pat...more

I have to admit that I have been absolutely flying through this series. I love kickass female leads, and Lindsay Boxer is about as kickass as they come.

In the first two books we are introduced to the Women's Murder Club, a group of four women that share many common interests and come together for fun, drinks, and when need be, to help solve crimes. When they are working together they have every imaginable angle covered and manage to solve the case everytime. In this book Lindsay is facing her to...more

This series is still good and I am still enjoying it for the second time, but I did get a little deja vu where Lindsay Boxer is concerned. Seems she has a fondness for greeting her male co workers at the door in only a towel. Anybody else make that connection? Nevertheless, the novel, the third in the Women's Murder Club series is still entertaining and this time there is a shocking twist. Somebody dies. What I love about this series is that not everything is bright and dandy for these very real...more

Patterson and Gross bring the Ladies Murder Club to a whole knew level with their third installment. In the post 9/11 world of literature, terrorism has definitely come to the fore, and the authors turn to domestic terrorism as a basis for their story.

It all starts one Sunday morning when Lt. Lindsay Boxer is doing her usual run with her friend Jill Bernhardt, San Francisco's Assistant DA. The two part ways after the run, leaving Lindsay to relax for a few minutes. It gives her just enough time...more

Another great Women's Murder Club book! I love these quick day-only reads...fun for a weekend to just relax and pick up a quick paced thriller like this one.

Lindsay (Homicide Police Inspector), Jill (Assistant DA), Claire (Medical Examiner), and Cindy (news reporter) all meet together when major cases are being solved in Lindsay's department to help crack down on killers. But in their newest case, a radical group will stop at nothing, using bombs and horrible organ melting poisons to murder peop...more

Awesome book! This one kept me riveted all the way through. Andrew Gross and Michael Ledwidge are my favorites of Patterson's co-authors, and the Gross/Patterson marriage works perfectly in 3rd Degree.

Our heroine, Lieutenant Lindsay Boxer is back, along with her crime-solving friends: Cindy, the journalist, Jill, the Assistant D.A., and Claire, the medical examiner. There is an unexpected twist in this book, though, that I didn't see coming at all and that I cannot reveal here because it would b...more

3 books in and the Lindsay Boxer and the Woman's Murder Club saga has no symptoms of slowing down. Out for her weekly jog, Lindsay and her faithful canine pass by a townhouse just as it blows sky high! Being the heroine that she truly is, she plunges into the burning domicile, owned by an internet millionaire, she finds all 3 occupants dead and the familie's baby is no where to be found. This bit of nastiness only tops off incidents that appear to be happining every 3-4 days to a range of people...more

The plot would normally appeal to guys (terrorist versus police and Homeland Security), but the story is really a chick-flick. Not great writing. Short, choppy chapters. Offensive (to me) profanity at the beginning of the book which disappeared after a while (evidence of two authors or of authors forgetting they were using profanity in the mouth of main character Lieutenant Lindsay Boxer to make her seem tough?). However, the plot drew me in enough after a while. A group of home-grown terrorists...more

Well... this wasn't great because of a few 'twists' I didn't like, and I really think it was way too VAGUE on the details about Jill. Actually, it's still pretty VAGUE on the other friends as well, but especially Jill, since this was her time in this book. Also... this series irritates me with it's potty-mouth cussing too. I'm not a *goody*two*shoes* or anything like that, but why is it, some authors find it necessary to 'dress' what they write in profanity? Either it's good, or it's not, right,...more

Lindsay Boxer returns in the third book in this series. This time, she is faced with terrorists who have a deadly agenda. With the body count rising and threats for more attacks, Lindsay races against the clock to gather all the pieces to the puzzle and stop all involved.

The pace of this book is pretty nice. It's a solid and smooth read, as one should expect from Patterson. I felt it was a bit slow in a few places, but moved well for the most part.

I felt a little disappointed in the murder myste...more

Oh my. Well, this book was sad. Let's just put it that way. As pathetic as it sounds, I cried through the part where OHWAIT. That would be spoiling. So, let's just say it was SAD.
I mean, to begin with, a whole house blows up, and there is one, count 'em ONE survivor. :< That sucks. From then on, a group called the August Spies vows to kill every three or so days. The plot then gets rather twisted when, after finding out Jill's husband is abusive, said friend goes missing. Suspicious, right...more

3rd Degree is the third book in Patterson’s Women’s Murder Club series. For those who are unfamiliar with the series, the protagonist is Lieutenant Lindsay Boxer with the San Francisco Police Department, who solves crimes with the aid of her three friends: District Attorney Jill Bernhardt, Chief Medical Examiner Claire Washburn, and San Francisco Chronicle Reporter Cindy Thomas.

A group of people is targeting high-profile businessmen, and they have vowed to continue to kill someone every three da...more

Detective Lindsay Boxer and Assistant District Attorney Jill Bernhardt are enjoying a quiet afternoon in San Francisco when a townhouse across the street explodes in flames. A sinister note signed "August Spies" is found at the scene of the disaster, and the body of an infant who was asleep in the house at the time of the explosion cannot be found. Soon a wave of violent incidents, all with links to political terrorism and involving "August Spies," sweeps through the city. An upcoming economic s...more

Good book! I love Patterson's writing and I'm TOTALLY into this series. More than anything because of the girls. Each one of them are interesting in their own ways. I think I've said before that I like how the girls are not only working to solve a crime, but dealing with other things in their lives too. In this book, Jill is dealing with an abusive husband. The girls get together to support her and protect her from harm. Meanwhile, it looks like Lindsey's finally finding love again after losing...more

[Don't read spoilers. They're major spoilers!]
It wasn't as good as the other two books in the series mainly because the mystery wasn't as interesting and it confused me. It had a really slow start like usual, and only got exciting when (view spoiler)[Jill died. (hide spoiler)] Anyway, the name switching between culprits confused me, because I thought things like: "Wait, Michelle is Wendy? Then is Julie a different person?". I wish they hadn't blew the culprits out on the readers so early in the...more

I have finally pinpointed what I find disconcerting about these books. It's the split narration! There are some chapters in a third-person omniscient style, where the author follows the killer, or one of Lindsay's friends, and then other chapters are narrated in first person by Lindsay herself. After reading the first book, I half expected the second to have one of the other ladies as the first-person narrator. Unfortunately, all these books follow Lindsay.
This third book was a bit different in...more

A fast-paced, page-turner, with the usual short chapters (which I'm particularly fond of) and my favorite characters.

*/Steps up on soapbox*
A couple of things that stick out and are somewhat bothersome to me for some reason, is the fact that in this book and others, every new male partner Lt. Lindsay Boxer seems to be assigned to a case with end up falling in love and sleeping together. In essence, it tends to diminish or convey a less serious outlook toward wome...more

After nearly a month in our vacation condo (5 jigsaw puzzles and 4 books completed, and miles walked) and having given my Kindle away to my sister's granddaughter, I'm reading books left here in the condo. Hence, a few hours of easy detective reading with James Patterson. I think this is my first James Patterson book and my conclusion is that I'd read another--if I could borrow it from a friend or pick it up at a rummage or library sale.

Here's a section I bookmarked:

I have read a lot of murder mystery books, including some by J.T. Ellison and Karen Slaughter. I find this series pretty good for the exception that this book was a bit predictable. I find myself wondering what the weather is like and what some of the characters are wearing, hair styles, meaning I would have liked more descriptions. It was mainly dialect and thoughts. I will continue reading this series all the way to the end because I like Lindsay Boxer's toughness and I suppose she is attracti...more

The anti-establishment Eco-terrorism plot was not fully believable to me, though I liked the personal angle Patterson gave it and the story played out at a believable pace. What I do like is the cast of characters Patterson has assembled and the symbiosis of legal, law-enforcement and press. While these factions are more often at odds, in the women's murder club they work together playing off of each others strengths. And they are a strong, tough but caring bunch. The club is sorely tested here,...more

Buku2 James Patterson kebanyakan berupa kumpulan chapter2 yang pendek. Buku ini juga mengikuti pola yang sama. Gaya berceritanya stright, to the point, no descriptions, a lot of name but not intimate.
