In that way, it gives it a kind of broader audience and it was easy for me not to think about the Monster High thing Mattel is doing, which is definitely for younger audiences. I found it to be a surprisingly good read, however, I did read it when I was around 10-13. Maybe now if I reread my opinion would change. I remember being impressed with it, because I wasn't a huge fan of monster high to begin with. As for why they made it separate to the series, I have no idea.(less)

I decided to read this book because I liked the Monster High animated shorts online. If you decide the same thing, be forewarned that the book is nothing like the shorts. I knew this going in, but I still kept trying to force what I knew about the shorts into this book. Having said that, I really liked this book. It does a great job of standing on its own. I liked going back and forth between Frankie and Melody's p.o.v. I also liked most of the characters. Some were annoying as heck, though. I w ...more

The Quick and the Dirty...a new and cutsie take on monsters

Why I was tempted to read this...I thought it sounded good and you gotta love the name Frankie Stein

Cover thoughts...Somewhat plain, but I like it simple like that, eye catching

Romance Meter...There was some, but there wasn't as much as I had hoped for. A lot of one girl liking a guy that likes someone else.

Character and Plot...I think I was expecting something dark and creepy with all the monsters walking around the high school, but the

Hmm a book based on girly monster dolls? Yup this book turned out exactly how I thought it'd be. Extremely shallow but still rather cute.

So this book starts out with Melody Carver and her family moving from California to Salem, Oregon because of her terrible asthma. She had also just gotten a nose job that apparently made her uber pretty, and yet she feels like a fraud.

Switch to Frankie Stein. She is also a new student at Merston High, and only 15 days old. I guess being the granddaughter of Fra
Awful perfectly describes this story. My best friend loves these books and told me to read them. At first I turned them down, but she finally coaxed me-- I was intrigued. When I got the books, I was excited and started reading right away. When I finished I tried starting the second but gave up. I couldn't do it. First of all, the plot is kinda boring. Just boring. Not much to say for it. But the worst is the characters. Melody's an annoying and naïve idiot. She constantly goes on these useless l ...more

Monster High, just proves that not all books with monsters or creatures, you would "think" don't really exist, have to be scary, or horror books.

From the cute diamond skull with the big pink bow, to the leather background, with pink stitching, this cover just screams cute.

I've seen the other two Monster High books, that are so far out, and I think this cover would have to be my favorite...I think it's because of all of the pink(:

In the book Monster high by Lisa Harrison, this story is about all the descendants of famous monsters such as Frankenstein, Dracula, The werewolf, etc. Mainly its about a monster named Frankie stein and she's only 15 days old since her parents brought her to life 15 days ago. Her parents dont like the fact that she's into things that the normies like a.k.a humans. Her parents reassure to her that not very many people treat monsters like them very kindly because of their skin and the way they lo ...more

Pues...bien.

3.5 Stars

In a perfect world…in Frankie Stein’s world, it’s little more than wishful thinking that monsters and normies get along. Barely fifteen days old, and birthed in her father’s lab (aka Fab) with the Glitterati (her pet white mice) looking out for her wardrobe selections, Frankie could be just like any teen. With the exception of the bolts in her neck, her minty green complexion, and the seams that are holding her appendages together that could rival Sally’s in Nightmare Before Christmas.
This is a cute book and it made me laugh quite a few times, and despite the few flaws that I found (more on that in a minute) it definitely warrants more than a 3-star rating. It's getting a 3-star rating because I listened to an audiobook version where large chunks of the book are just... gone. There were definite sync issues throughout, where I'd magically skip back several chapters mid-sentence, but two instances where the chapters were missing altogether. This was during the important parts ...more

Lisi Harrison's Monster High is a great fiction read. I would recommend it to teenage readers. However, if you are into teenage fiction, by all means, read it! This book is about a young woman named Melody who moved from her fancy life in California. You can say she was living the "90210" lifestyle. However, despite her rich living, she wasn't the most popular person in her school...nor the prettiest. But, once she moves to Salem, Oregon she meets a few girls who hide a secret bigger than ever. ...more

Utterly dissapointing. I understand that this book is geared toward younger audiences, but that is no excuse for how poorly written this book is. The plot is predictable, and the characters are underdeveloped archetypes. Furthermore, the perspective from two characters is confusing, and too many characters are introduced right off the bat. As a fan of the show, I had high expectations, and this book failed to meet any of them.

I got about 197/257 pages before I could not take it anymore.

I was so mad that I had to review this book as well!

Now I will admit I read this because of Ever After High.

I enjoyed those books so of course I should enjoy Monster High right? It takes place in the same 'verse but with monsters instead of royals/rebels.

Sadly this book is in no way related to the webshow.

I know, what was I thinking? Well, I needed something fluffy and light and fun and mostly fluffy in between my heavier (and longer) Halloween reads this year. I wanted cotton candy forgetting I don't really like cotton candy, too sweet for me and it sticks on your fingers, yuck. Plus, this is even more embarrassing, I love those dolls, if they had been out when I was a kid they would have replaced my Barbies in a heart beat and I may or may not own one or two of them now anyways since they come ...more
Monster High is about a 10th grade girl named Melody who moves with her family to Oregon in the hopes that it will alleviate the asthma that has plagued much of her life.

A few houses down the street, newly-born Frankie Stein is learning about the world she was so recently born into... And how to hide herself from it.

The two girls' lives parallel the first day of high school, as they make friends, crushes, and enemies, with only minor intersections.
Trouble is brewing, however, as an overly-optimi

This would make for a great Halloween Disney Original Movie.

Monster High felt like the B-flick monster movie of the book world. It had more cheesy one-liners than a James Bond film and more fashion/pop culture references than a Teen Vogue magazine. But those elements came together to make a lighthearted enjoyable read that I believe younger teens will really enjoy.

I liked that the book didn’t try to be more than what it was. With all the dark/intense paranormal romance that are so popular in th
This was a fun light read. At first I was afraid to read it because it was by Lisi Harrison and the whole concept of the Clique series annoys me and makes me a little bit sad. But I loved the cover and concept so much that I finally caved and I am so glad I did.

The story is told from two points of view, Frankie Stein the fifteen day old grandaughter of Frankenstein's monster, and Melody a transplant from Los Angeles who has always felt like an outcast because she wasn't perfect (although her pl

This book was too cheesy and corny for me. But maybe the younger YA crowd will like it more.

I thought the plot was original. Monsters hiding in plain sight of the "normies". And while I don't think we were supposed to figure out just who was a monster and who wasn't, I had the monsters pegged from the very beginning.

I did like the two main characters--Melody and Frankie. They were definitely true to themselves and wanted to be liked for who they were and not what they looked

My granddaughter turned nine this past week and her newest rage is "Monster High". She wanted a birthday party with a Monster High theme so my daughter asked me to help her come up with some ideas. Well, I didn't have a clue what Monster High was except that my granddaughter talked about it all the time and went around with her nose crammed into the spine of a pretty pink book. That's right these characters are not based on a cartoon or any other type of media. They are based on a book and if an ...more

There are two reviews here - I read this with Miss 8 - who liked it considerably more than I did!

Miss 8 - Monster High #1 was good but not great, I think the 2nd one is better but I really liked the dance at the end. Especially when Brett is kissing Frankie and scratching her stitches and then her head falls off!!!! LOLO :)

I love the Monster High Series. I have 9 dolls (Mum - I am not typing out the names of all of them!) and really want Operetta for Christmas!!!!

Frankie Stein is thrilled when her parents tell her that she is ready to go to school. Frankie has high hopes for high school - she can't wait to make friends and to finally have the chance to wear her amazing wardrobe out in public. Melody needs to get away from Beverly Hills and start over. An ex-dork, she's looking forward to being in the fresh air of Salem, Oregon (to help her asthma) and where people don't know her nerdy past. This is Frankie Stein's first year attending school in Salem too, only for way different reasons. She was only just created in a lab by her parents a few weeks ago, and they now deem her ready for the world. All is well until monster sightings start popping up around town, making the paranormal fa ...more

This is going to be one hot book! I didn't know anything about this book and only signed up to read about it when I saw that one of the characters was named Frankie Stein. How could you not love a character named that? I wasn't disappointed at all. This is one of those books I am going to recommend to all of my mom friends for their younger teens. The story has lots of important lessons, is extremely cute and of course a marketing blitz to go along with it.
