Recommends it for:
mystery, time travel, fantasy, historical, thriller readers
Subtle sense of humour! Is my first reaction-from quivering to chuckling, Mr. Szabo has prodded the reader’s hook deep into my imagination, and I am immediately very intrigued. Chuckling soon turns to chortling, just as I was savouring the keen prose, and the 1930’s noir aura. I realize “noir” has become an overused, and sometimes inaccurately applied, word-but trust me, here it fits like a velvet glove caressing an iron fist. This is quite a short tale, and I normally adore them. Sadly, I just couldn't enjoy this one as much as I'd hoped. I struggled for over a week- something I almost never do. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get involved in this story. I didn't understand half of it- there was no cohesion to the tale at all- at least in my opinion. I didn't even understand the point of it until I reached the end. I thought long and hard before I wrote this review, but I just couldn't care about the tale. No...more
