Fear is sabotage’s sweetest weapon.

Kate has no time for meaningless romantic charades, and definitely no time for hot college professors who are full of themselves and smitten with her. Constantly battling eviction notices, tuition she can’t afford, and a sick, dependent mother, the last thing she needs is to be distracted with someone else’s complicated baggage.

When she...more

Awful writing, awful story, idiotic characters, awful dialogue!

*I was given this as an Advanced Readers copy for review by the Author.*

“Preservation is a classic story of how love prevails all.”

Kate turner is a twenty-something independent young women trying pay her way through college and pursue her career as a working author. When Kate meets Mr. Campbell: her smooth talking and feisty college professor she is immediately turned off by his obnoxious observations, snarky attitude, and overly confident stature but that is deterred by his good looks dreamy ey...more

Rachael Wade is an amazing author!

I cried, I laughed, and I even got angry but the heat and passion that you feel when reading Preservation is intoxicating and surreal. Rachael makes her readers connect with her characters in away that makes you want more.

Kate has had to work hard for everything she had and wanted. Her father ran out on her and her mother when she was young, leaving her to fend for herself when her mother fell apart.

Now Kate is taking care...more

In a nutshell, Preservation is an insta-lust story between two unlikeable characters with no chemistry; Ryan, a college professor and manwhore with his student, the passive-aggressive wannabe writer, Kate.

The sex scenes were hot and I wish they were longer to compensate for all the stupid, unbelievable melodrama. Perhaps, the book would have worked better if the author continued Ryan's POV to alternate with Kate's. Perhaps not.

I loved this contemporary romance book. I finished it in about four hours. Thank you Amazon and Rachael Wade for the free download. The book was based in Seattle, Washington one of my most favorite places in the world.

I thought it was great how both characters, Kate and Ryan had insecurities stemming from their past, but together they worked through them, “We fit together like poorly cut puzzle pieces, but when the edges joined and were positioned just right, our scattered images came together...more

This book was a whole lot of ‘almost there’-s. I almost liked it. It almost had the themes of ow , jealousy, and drama done right. I almost liked the hero. I almost liked the love affair. I almost believed the backgrund.

First off, the reasons behind the hero’s character-that ultimately set up the tone of the book:
A beta man that once got cheated on by the woman he loved goes on a 'penis for all' rampage? He breaks hearts right and left! He cheats on everybody! Still….women fall at his feet.

Kate's life has never been easy, her father left when she was 13 and her mother became addicted to drugs. She's always had to work hard and fend for herself . Now at 25, she is enrolled in college and working long hours to take care or her mother. The last thing she wants is baggage...male baggage that is. Her two best friends, Carter and Dean, have always been attracted to her but are always there to protect her. Carter is hilarious and always...more

3.20.13-read number 2 on this one to refresh myself with the characters before reading Reservation, also to write a review since apparently I never did that! :)

I enjoyed this book. It was a quick read for me, and I wish that there could have been a good bit more character development, and detail in some scenes. There was a slight rushed feel for a good bit of the book. For example, Felicia...i think that was her name, there was a pretty important scene with her and then it was almost br...more

"But this isn’t a story about my coming of age or all the shit I went through growing up. It’s a love story about how I met Ryan. How he stole my running shoes and put reality in perspective for me. In the most infuriating, blindingly beautiful way possible, a way that only he could. And how I wrestled with his influence until the inevitable instilled me with a brand new kind of fear—regret."

Oh yeah , a paragraph like that is more than enough to get me excited to read this ....

I found this book by chance on Amazon. I was unsure about it and took a long time to start it. I'm glad I gave it a chance...I ended up really liking it. The relationship between Ryan and Kate was dramatic and passionate. I loved that! and of course Kate's best friends Dean and Carter are so much fun! They add the comedic parts of the story. If anyone asks for a new book I will for sure recommend this one.

I so wanted to like this b/c I am a sucker for Professor/student relationships. Preservation was a DNF for me. I read half. There was no sexual tension, and no chemistry b/w the characters and I didn't give a flip what happened to them.
Sara
Loved this book! Love the characters, the story. The heartache it made me feel, the happiness. Want more!! Also I want more of Ryan's POV!!!

Found this free on amazon.. Thought it was chick lit but it's more of a romance. I thought I might not like it but I ended up loving it! Quick read too..

The three stars is for the first 3/4 of the story. It flowed well. I was interested to see how the student/teacher relationship would progress. For the most part, I enjoyed the story, even if it seemed a little too easy for the relationship not to have any obstacles aside from Kate's unwillingness to open up to Ryan. The sex scenes seemed a bit gratuitous. They were few and far between and seemed a bit like an afterthought.

I think this is the second book in the "Professor-Student" relationship that I liked. (Next to Gabriel's Inferno series, of course)
Though there was a lot on the plate to take in. The trust issues, the 'independence' bouts of the heroine and the abrupt rushed-ending. :/ It was simply too much to swallow. I'd love to backhand Ryan for the shit he pulled but since I'm forever empathizing with the opposite person I guess I could see where he was coming from. Nevertheless, it was a low blow even from...more

So I actually read Love and Relativity before this one, while it was a stand alone, the characters sort of intermingle and well youll kinda a glimpse into the after epilogue of this one plus more Carter.

Moving on, I heard about Ryan before and like Jackson (L&R) and let's just say theyre well known for many things. I can see that commonality of the hate to love and asshatery traits are in Ms Wade's leads, I gotta admit they start as asshats and you just wanna strangle but end up gushing over...more

I will admit, I was attracted to the cover. Seriously who wouldn’t be?
Anyway, the whole teacher student thing doesn’t really work for me but I’m trying new things so what the hell? And if a story works...it works I guess. Know what I mean?
Here I hoped for the best and landed with a four-star book! Maybe this whole optimistic thing works after all...something to ponder later.

Sognatore, dopo aver sc...more

Last night I had a hard time falling asleep and decided to pick up a book that would be a fast read. I read the opening to Preservation and immediately found myself enthralled in the story. I knew from the opening that I could zoom through it.

It was definitely a fast read, very interesting, and for whatever reason, as much I wanted to DNF it, I couldn't. I read it until the end and was bothered by it all.

First I would like to say, it does have some sexy steamy scenes that I did enjoy. The begi...more

You know those novels where it's obvious that the author wanted to be the main character? Where the protagonist is a little too perfect, sexy, and everyone wants them. This is one of those books The main character has had a tough past but now has amazing guy friends (who both not so secretly love her) and a hot professor she is going to screw. She is such a talented writer that she can quit school and will be published within the first 50 pages of the novel. Not only is the character unrelatable...more

This book is a school girls fantasy. I would say it fits into the new adult genre. The characters are in their mid 20s. I really enjoyed it. By the end of the second chapter I was sucked in and didn't come up for air until a few hours later when I realized that I devoured the book in a single sitting.

Both Ryan and Kate are jaded and damaged and because of this they are guarded and keep people at a distance. What I liked about this book is that you could tell they liked each other from the begin...more

This was absolutely a great love story! I believe there was a good amount of conflict that really can put you on edge, and for me, I liked that, as there were unexpected turns that this story takes us, and you definitely will want to know what happens next! I enjoyed that part of the story was taken place at a college and writing was a main theme in both Ryan's and Kate's life. Speaking of these two, I think they are both well developed characters. They both have had some unfortunate situations...more

I loved this book. I mean, I really loved it.

So many things almost got in the way of my reading this book, it's a miracle I made it through. I'm so glad that I did! First off, I'm picky about what romance books I'll read. I like a good romance, but there are FAR too many that are simply ridiculous. More so than in any other genre. I like to preview reviews before starting one. This one had me stumped because though there were MORE good reviews than bad, the bad reviews were pretty negative &...more

Short review since it's not a YA book.

This novel is a stand-alone book I discovered on amazon.

This book is a rollercoaster between two characters that have trouble with relationships and it's believeable. I was hooked right away, understanding both characters that are not without flaws and let's be real, we all love characters that are not flawless.

While I do like how the author built her characters and how she shows us how hard it is for them to be in a relationship, I would have loved to see...more

Preservation follows college student Kate Parker in a story that at its roots is a dramatic romance. Kate finds herself in a relationship with her college professor Ryan Campbell . When I first started this novel I felt like I really knew who Kate was and she knew who she was. She was strong and knew where she was going in life. Then she meets Ryan Campbell a professor who is cocky, egotistical, and a womanizer. Here is where I have a problem with this book. Kate falls for this guy almost immedi...more

I want to like this book more than I did because I genuinely enjoyed Wade's writing. I found the book engaging and well-written. And if the story had ended at the halfway point, I'd probably rate the book higher. There was a point somewhere in the 50% area where we could've had a nice HEA and been done with a sweet short story. The second half was just too bizarro and unbelievable for me. Plus, with the extra length, I was hoping for a little more character development.

Now, I'll admit that I download a lot of free books on my kindle in the hopes that I will someday find one that I will enjoy and finish.

This is the first free book that I had finished.

I'm not going to go into major detail about this book, I really don't feel like that's warranted. (Plus, I'm writing this review on my iPhone in the middle of class. I know. Priorities.)

Preservation has a lot going for it. There's drama, there's love, the daunting fear of rejection - all the ingredients to write a...more

Sorry this book did not do it for me. Honestly the whole novel felt formulaic and rushed. The central characters had some interesting issue to overcome but the author did not spend enough time developing the conflict between them to any great length, so that their final coming together did not have any real emotional impact on me as the reader. Kate's quite a sympathetic character and you sort of understand where she's coming from having sacrificed her life to taking care of her mother and now d...more

Preservation by Rachael Wade has been sitting patiently in my tbr pile on my kindle for approximately a year. Yes I could kick myself for waiting so long. It was a thoroughly good, entertaining and drama filled read.

The main character Kate, was very easy to follow and like. The author has created a very real character with her protagonist. Kate has a fair amount of baggage that she carries around with her, causing a whole heap of dramatic and tension fill...more

WHAT A GREAT READ!

Story about Ryan, man whore due to a pretty ugly break up he had. And Kate, a woman with settling down issues. But they get together, and they fall for each other, literally. It's told from Kate's point of view, and this pretty much sums it up:

[This is](...) a love story about how I met Ryan. How he stole my running shoes and put reality in perspective for me. In the most infuriating, blindingly beautiful way possible, a way that only he could. And how I wrestled with his infl...more

“The second he slipped inside of me, all I'd doubted, questioned, or feared evaporated, leaving me with one single, definite truth--I'd fallen in love with him in an all-consuming blaze that would blind me if I wasn't careful. We fit together like poorly cut puzzle pieces, but when the edges joined and were positioned just right, our scattered images came together to create a solid, deliberate piece of art, completely crystal clear and in focus. I was a goner.” 25 people liked it
“What do you see when you look at me?”

My eyes narrowed and I pressed my lips together, weighing my thoughts. All of his bimbo admirers aside, what did I see? What did my gut tell me about this man? What did it say that allowed me to wind up here with him, under such impulsive circumstances?

“You’re a sad man,” I swallowed. “You’re arrogant and set in your ways, but that creates a fortress for you. It’s your safe haven. Behind the moat is someone who has lost something he loved, only I’m not sure what, or who. You’re afraid of something and your loyalty is hidden away in a cell, wounded by betrayal.” I rested my head on the pillow. “That’s what I see.”

“On second thought,” he exhaled, letting his head drop next to mine. “You’re psychic.”
