You are probably going to love Neptune's Tears, if you kind of liked Singing the Dogstar Blues by Alison Goodman, but wished ...

- that the young adult scifi novel was not one of those damned stand-alones with a real ending
- that Mavkel was more human looking, had a hot, hot body and an 'Englisher' name like Paul or Oscar
- that Oscar-Mavkel's and Joss' heart-string-tucking friendship was replaced by a forbidden instant-and-forever-love that would swallow up at least half of the plot and the majo...more
Dark Faerie Tales
Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales.

Quick & Dirty: This was a Sci-fi set in a futuristic London, filled with romance, mystery, and forbidden love. It lacked action and the plot was a little boring.

Opening Sentence: Zee hesitated for the second it took the blue light to ?ash green, then passed through the arch and into the Accident & Emergency waiting room.

The Review:

Zee is a 17 year old girl that works as an empath. An empath works with sick people and with their minds they make a conn...more

This book is so different to anything I have read recently and I finished it in one sitting. It mixes elements of sci-fi, dystopia and paranormal, but I’d hesitate to give it any of those labels because the premise is so inventive.
Susan Waggoner’s London of 2218 is at once futuristic and yet reassuringly familiar. Medical science has extended human life-span considerably, Britain’s public transport problems have been resolved by the installation of a super-efficient vactrain (vacuum train) netwo...more

Neptune's Tears was a rollercoaster of a read. It was fantastic, heartwarming and heartwrenching and I loved it!

The story is told from Zee's point of view – a 17 year old empath working in a hospital in London. She loves her job, and she is good at what she does but the world as she knows it gets turned upside down when she meets David Sutton.

I really liked Zee. She really grew as a character the whole way through the book. At first, she was prejudiced against Aliens but as she fell in love wit...more

Neptune's Tears is the first book in the Timedance series by Susan Waggoner. It's set in 2218 and follows a young empath in a London hospital. For such a quick read, the pages inside this book contain a lot. The story mainly revolves around Zee's career as an empath, her powers related to this and her romance with a boy, David, who one day appears at her hospital.

Zee was a very decent, relatable character. I liked what we got to know about her and particularly admired her for her love of her job...more

(Source: I received a paperback copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to Daphne from Winged Reviews, and Piccadilly Publishers.)
17-year-old Zee is a healing empath, which means that she works in a hospital and uses her special gifts to heal people.

One day she is sent to see a patient who is being difficult, but when she enters the room she gets two surprises. The first is that she is strangely attracted to the patient – David, and the second is when he tells her he is an a...more

I thought it is a good, easy and fast read! I enjoyed very much reading it! I picked up this book by random from the shelf at the library. The title and its blue glittery cover has caught my attention and it's behind cover synopsis that I could not help leave it untouched. So I just borrowed it and took it home with me for reading. I couldn't stop my grabby hands from grabbing it off of the shelf.

No regrets! Once I started reading it, I couldn't be disturbed. It was glued in my hands the whole t...more

We’re introduced to how much Zee loves her job as an empath at the Royal London hospital and her connection with patient Ellie Hart. Ellie is infamous with her connection to The Neptune diamonds. We’re given the background to the mining of the diamonds and how they came to be named Neptune’s Tears.

Zee divests before going on duty and finds out she’s been reassigned to patient David Sutton. Refusing treatment and wanting to check out, on meeting him there is an instant connection. Emotions affect...more

In this interesting new series, readers are introduced to 17-year-old Zee in a futuristic London. She is an empath, trained to help heal people through connecting with their minds. Since empath’s minds have to always be focused on their jobs and patients, she has never had a real relationship, but everything changed the day she met David.

My best friend was reading this book and recomended it to me. i thought i would hate it because im not big im a romance novels.
When i started reading i already decided i wouldnt like it but as the story took me in i couldnt put the book down until I was finished. I was completely captivated by the forbidden romance and the advanced world that might come to be. I would strongly recomend this book for anyone who loves to use their imagination to see the detail of new technology and a love strong...more

“Zee didn't think so. She had no intention of falling in love.”
Zee McAdams is an Empath at a hospital - a healer. She's determined she will never fall in love - to do so would be risking her gift and ability to help people. And Zee does not want that - not ever.
And then David comes in: mysterious David who she has a connection with instantly.
Even though he's from a planet Earth doesn't trust.
Even though he's holding back and keeping secrets.
So when David finally reveals his terrible, dreadful...more

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this book not having heard all that much about it before i received it in the post. I can quite honestly as I was very pleasantly surprised in how much I enjoyed it.

The book is se in the future but not a dystopian one which is something I really liked. Of course things are different with the world as technology has advanced but that doesn't mean the world has gone to hell like in so many books set in the future. It was a really pleasant change for a YA n...more

Alright. I liked this one. It was a light, easy read and I loved the setting.

And then I reached the end and like...I feel as if my copy is missing some pages? Because it just stopped. Nothing is settled. And then I read the synopsis for the next book and...it really sounds as if my copy is missing some pages. But I texted a friend who owns an ARC as well, and hers has the same amount of pages.

I can't even think about the rest of the story because this is bothering me so much.

There were moments of this story that I loved, and the overall concept of empathic healing and shock bombs and connecting to our own future is awesome. But there where also several moments that I just sort of gave the book a confused head tilt.

This love story, set in a future world reassuringly similar to our own, caught my attention from the beginning. Though action packed there are lots of moments of contemplation and calm, which is unusual in current YA fiction, but very satisfying. The plot surprised me on more than one occasion, and I found the character of Zee particularly appealing. I'm looking forward to reading the next episode.

Absolutely unlike anything I've ever read before - dystopia, but so multi-layered and multi-faceted, with engaging, smart characters that kept me reading. Fantastic book.

“We are very excited about Neptune's Tears … It’s simply one of the best romances I’ve read in a long time. It’s an original, highly imaginative story … and the central characters are so real. The futuristic setting adds a quirkiness to the story and is very cleverly handled. I read the material one evening and made a pre-emptive bid when I finished.”

Well, that was odd. But different and quick! A very enjoyable read.

Look for my full review in June!

So this was actually not very well-executed, but I loved the concept and the ideas that Waggoner had.

This was surprisingly really good!!! Love the setting, and the romance was cute! Zee was a wonderful character and I can't wait for the next book!!
Kristin (Beneath Shining Stars, I Read)
The cover makes sense now! Also, I was not expecting that ending. I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger, but I would say that I got a bomb dropped on me. I can't wait to see where the second book takes things!

Full review to come.
