For a moment, a face flashed before my eyes—the most hideous face I’d ever seen. No matter how hard I tried to forget what had happened, I saw him everywhere I went. It was Loki—the evil god that I’d helped set free against my will.

I should have known that my first official date with Logan Quinn was destined to end in disaster. If we’d gotten into a swordfight, or been amb...more

Next to him, I pretty much faded into the background. The most interesting thing about my wavy brown hair was how frizzy it was today. You might look twice at my eyes, which were an unusual shade of violet, but the only thing special about me was the necklace I wore.

STOP IT, Jennifer Estep. I'm begging you. We're on book 4 now. Gwen's self-judgment isn't even in the realm of 'oh, it's kind of endearing to see how normal and self-conscious she is' anymore. By now, it's crossed ove...more

BEFORE READING:
Crimson is the color of blood, right? uh oh.
Oh it has a cover! The necklace is so pretty :)

AFTER READING:
Oh there was a LOT of blood involved, all right. Even Gwen's. Who do you think hurt Gwen? Dun dun dun.. Nope I am not going to spoil it but what the frak I wasn't expecting that! Another round of applause for Ms. Estep
I like Crimson Frost because Gwen can actually kick some serious butt in here like a real Champion does. Although she still needs her friends' help, she can hold...more

Seriously Jennifer, you're killing me!!!

It’s been awhile since I read the last book, Dark Frost, and even longer still since I read the first two at the frenetic insistence of a super fan (you know who you are), but, for a couple of reasons, I’ve always thought of the Mythos Academy series as dumb fun, not great but not unenjoyable either. Crimson Frost though, I think this series has finally found its stride - this is the first book that hasn’t gotten just a lukewarm reaction from me, because, let’s face it, the best book in the seri...more

Experiment BL626
In my review of book 3, I declared that the series officially sucked. Crimson Frost is book 4, and I expected that suckiness to continue. And it did... for the first 50% of the book, and then OMG... it actually turned — sssh, careful I don’t want to scare away this feeling. *whisper* It actually turned things around and got GOOD! You read that right, good. G-O-O-D! Say it loud, say it proud. Goooood!

The first 50% of the book

The last book was so bad it crushed my motivation, despite my friend’s e...more

oh my freak god they need to jst release the freking book already i can NOT wait another week let alone a few months and i read the review and i as stunned honestly shocked staring at the screen and yeling WHY to the gods of book releases then i really got up and hit my head repeatedlyagainst the wall. they tell you that logans dad is arresting gwen and then they just say...oh sorry you can't read the rest you'll jjust have to wait a few months so sorry, i want to strangle someone. other than th...more

Damned if you do, damned if you don't...

Gwen just can't catch a break. Yeah, she goofed when she uncovered the dagger her mother had hidden so well, and let it get stolen and used to free the trickster God Loki before she could find a new hiding spot, but now the Protectorate, aka mythical police force, has decided to charge her with aiding his escape. Funny how they charge before investigating...but at least she can stay on campus under permanent guard as they do it.

With Logan's dad leading th...more

I love this series so much, i could not wait to read this. I actually did a little dance when i got the ARC!
Was i disappointed? Hell no, exactly the writing and level i was expecting!
This author, wow, words fail me. She manages to pull me into a story so that i actually feel i am part of it. I am ducking when gwen ducks, cringing when gwen does! I was completely connected to everything that was happening.

This is a fantastic book, a great...more

I just love Jennifer Estep so much. I think everything she writes is gold. This book was no different. But you know me. I found one or two things that bothered me. But I still loved every minute of Crimson Frost.

The Good
Here's The Story...
It was all going so well. A little coffee, a little flirty banter, a little murder accusation. Yeah, you heard me. Finally Logan and Gwen had a chance to go on their first date, then the Mythos Academy "p...more

It's no secret that despite the predictability and simple writing style, the first three books in this series were among some of the best books I read in 2012. And Crimson Frostcontinued that trend flawlessly. I was utterly hooked from start to finish, and I'm not sure how I'm going to survive until August without another Mythos Academy fix.

The predictability of this series is something I think I've mentioned in all of my reviews, and with good reason. However, I'm beyond ecstatic to report that...more

2 stars for the first half and 4 stars for the second half.

I'm not sure if it's because I read the first three books back-to-back, but I am really struggling with this one.

The first third was about everyone wrongly accusing Gwen of being Loki's Champion and causing all this trouble, and she kind of wallowed in self-pity about how unfair it was, yet, she did nothing and didn't even really try to speak out to defend herself. What happened to the no-nonsense girl that put up with Logan and all that...more

WARNING! This review contains spoilers for earlier books in the Mythos Academy series. I highly recommend reading the first three books before reading this review.

Once again Jennifer Estep takes readers on a harrowing and dramatic journey with Gwen Frost and the rest of the Mythos gang. The last time we spent time with these characters Mr. Big Bad himself, Loki, was freed from his mythological prison and is now a threat to all of the Pantheon. In addition, Gwen and Logan have finally st...more

Recommendation : This is a great addition to the Mythos Academy series. A must read series in my opinion. So if you are looking for a book about extraordinary teens trying to save the world, give this one a try.

Crimson Frost steps up the game with the arrival of the Protectorate. Now I know that Gwen is a magnet for all things horrible, but this arrival is one of the worst timed ones yet.

Logan actually takes Gwen out on a date…in front of the whole school. As you know, this is huge. Mr. Popular,...more

Four stars: This series gets better and better as the story grows darker and more dangerous....

Gwen is trying to shake the memories of the hideous events that ended up almost killing her and freeing the trickster god Loki. She is back at the Mythos Academy amongst her friends, ready to finally go on that date with the sexy Spartan Logan Quinn. The two are just settling into the trendy coffee shop with their overpriced hot beverages, when Gwen's nerves get the better of her and she manages to spi...more

Crimson Frost in the fourth book in the Mythos Academy series. Gwen Frost attended regular high school until her mother died and she was thrown into the magical world that is Mythos Academy. Isolated at first, she soon makes friends with Daphne, Carson, Oliver and Logan. At the beginning of this book, Gwen is on her first official date with Logan, the hot spartan, when the Protectorate enter the coffee shop and she's arrested for freeing Loki from prison.

For some reason, I found myself not enjoy...more

I am so INVOLVED in the Frost series it is not even funny. I’d give up a letter to go to Hogwarts if I could go to Mythos instead.

Our gypsy girl, Gwen, has grown so much and it is wonderful to watch her progression from misfit to heroine over the course of these books. She isn’t perfect but she is so relatable and endearing. Her supporting cast is hard to beat too—Daphne, Carson, Logan, even that insult spouting sword Vic. Crimson Frost picks up where Dark Frost left off, and we FINALLY have a f...more

Zistila som, že Jennifer Estep...more

Warning: This post, like the book description, contains spoilers about previous entries in the series (but not CRIMSON FROST).

As you know from previous books in the series, or from reading the cover copy above, big things happened in DARK FROST, the biggest being the Loki got free with some unwilling assistance from Gwen, who was tricked by Loki's champion. Now, Gwen's facing the consequences of her actions, with the Protectorate putting her on trial. The added twist? They arrested her on her fi...more

Fourth in the Mythos Academy urban fantasy series for young adults involving Gwen Frost, Nike's Champion.

Be sure to read Gwen's letter to Logan at the back of the book...

My Take
I like this series. Yes, it's a bit clichéd with its underdog protagonist, but I do like the twist Estep puts on Gwen as both unacknowledged champion and underdog. It shocked me to realize this is only the fourth in the series as I feel so much a part of Gwen and her friends. As though I've been reading about them forever...more

Oh, how happy I was while reading this book…but it didn’t last! I’ve been reading this series since it was first published and waiting for the main characters, Gwen and Logan, to get together and it finally happened..sort of.

Gwen has been an interesting character from the very first book. As she matures and grows more and more comfortable with her role as Nike’s Champion, I find myself rooting for her t...more

Released on Christmas Eve, Gwen Frost’s newest adventure featured battles, love, betrayal, talking swords, plot twists, and a very small dog. While Crimson Frost is certainly the best book in the series, sadly I didn’t like the other books much at all.

The book features one Gwen Frost, a Gypsy (no not that kind) who has magic powers that let her see the memories and feelings attached to things people have touched. Gwen has many friends, all with their own powers, and they fight evil together.

As I have stated in my other reviews of this series, I do not understand why I love these books. The writing isn't that great, the recap of previous books is tedious, and the plot truds along as if it were impersonating a snail.

BUT I LOVE THEM!!!!

Gwen and Logan are finally going on a date! But…it’s horribly interrupted with pain and misery and then a series of unlikely events happen and everyone at the school hates Gwen again.

Or hates her more. I’m not sure they ever stopped hating her.

As much a...more

Celeste’s review: 4.5 stars Well, I couldn’t wait to jump right back into to Logan’s arms this series. I have all the love for these books and they get better and better. If you love Mythology you must, must, must read these! This one was action packed. I was biting my nails from the beginning and the stress didn’t stop until I read the last page. OH MY GOD!!! Sometimes, these endings kill me. And let me just say that I think I lost a lot of tears and some series sleep because of this! I just don't know what to say, so gimme a minute LOL

At first, with everything that has happened and going to happen, I was worried about Gwen, and her missions, and why Nike chose her as her champion. And I know that Gwen has some reserves about what she has just found out about her powers, and especially when she realizes they aren't nearly as easy going a...more

4.5 Stars!

Jennifer Estep has continuously impressed me with her break-out into the YA genre. Her Mythos Academy series is now one of my top YA paranormal series. What began first as a mediocre, clichéd Touch of Frost soon blossomed into this epic of massive proportions that cannot be contained. Time after time, I am repeatedly surprised by Jennifer's growth in writing for a YA audience. Before, I found Gwen a dull, stereotypical Bella kind of character. At this...more

Gwen’s life just keeps getting more complicated by the second. After being tricked into helping Loki escape – the mythological world’s law enforcement officers, The Protectorate, have come to arrest Gwen and make her face trial for her crimes. To add more complexity to the situation, the leader of the Procetorate happens to be the one and only Linus Quinn – Logan’s father. When all this goes down in the first chapter of the novel – and during Logan and Gwen’s first official date – you know that...more

Crimson Frost is book 4 in the Mythos Academy series by Jennifer Estep. The book picks up where the last book " Dark Frost " left off. Gwen and Logan are finally on their first date when the Protectorate show up and place her under arrest for freeing Loki. As if it' s not bad enough that she is being falsely accused of purposely freeing Loki of her own free will and that Logan' s dad is part of the Protectorate but then they also accuse her of the false...more
