This book looks at Islam in a number of Middle Eastern and South Asian countries, with an emphasis on gender relations. There is some interesting information in the book, but it isn't well organized, and the author doesn't seem to have a clear thesis. He also doesn't make very many comparisons between the countries. But, it is still a good introduction.
