“Full House” by Maeve Binchy is a “Quick Reads” book, a novelette. I was happy to find it continues with the life stories of neighbors and friends of former characters who live on St. Jarlath’s Court, of the “Minding Frankie” era.
Essentially this is the story of Dee, who works two jobs as a cleaner and also continues to shop, cook, clean, launder, and “do everything” for her husband and 3 grown children who still live at home. The downturn in the economy hits her husband and he is now without w...more

Maeve Binchy broaches a very contemporary subject in this quick read: Young adult children who seem content to be living at home where their parents provide them with lodging and meals – and they don’t have to contribute whatsoever.
When the Dad, Liam looses his job, things change rapidly in the household of Dee and Liam and their three grown-up kids. Dee is quite inventive, hard-working and kind, however she’s determined to have her grown children understand the cost of living, and they need to...more

I read this book while waiting for my parents to finish cooking Sunday Family Dinner. My mom had only bought it at Costco that morning. It is a very quick and easy read. Not my usual style, to be honest, its the first Maeve Binchy book I've ever read, but decided to give it a go in between all the vampires, warriors, and fairy tales.
I enjoyed it.

What a brilliant book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Dee and her family. This was one of the Quick Read books, easily managable in a day, even if it hadn't have been i would have found it hard to put down!
Dee is one half of a cleaning duo, a wife and a mother, when her husband looses his job they are going to find it a strain financially. Her grown children pay nothing to household and are shocked and horrified when Dee sets about making them see that they should have been contributing.

At only 127 large-font-sized pages, this itty bitty book barely even deserves the title of novella, so don't borrow it expecting anything approaching a full-size novel. But it's a standard Maeve Binchy tale - lovely, heart-felt and full of references to some of the favourite characters from books past.
I know it's silly but I cried when I finished reading this book this because I know that it's the second last time I will ever read a new Maeve Binchy novel :( Oh, my poor heart. (Plus, what am I...more

Dee and Liam live with their three grown-up children in Dublin, but life isn't easy. Dee works as a cleaner, and when Liam is made redundant, they have virtually no income. Their three children - Rosie, who has recently left her husband, Helen, a school teacher, and Anthony never pay their way in the household and expect everything to be done for them. Dee finally cracks, and takes on an enterprise which shocks her offspring but brings them round to their senses in the end.

Full House is a novella by Maeve Binchy in the Quick Reads series. The story centres on Dee and Liam Nolan, residents of St. Jarlath’s Cres in Dublin, an address with which Binchy fans will be familiar. Dee and Liam have two adult daughters and a son, all still living at home, none of whom contribute financially or practically to the running of the household. Rosie was married to Ronan for all of what seemed like 10 minutes before she returned home with a list of complaints about married life; H...more
This was a Quick Reads edition. It was nice to see familiar characters from previous stories and is a sort of follow on from Minding Frankie, with many of the characters appearing. Dee and Liam have let their 3 grown up children live off them rent free and none of them lifting a finger to help in the house whilst mum Dee has several jobs as a cleaner to make ends meet. The father Liam then loses his job and things have to change...or do they? This was a very pleasant read with a message that wil...more
Dee Nolan is married to Liam Dee owns a cleaning company with her partner Josie, she works long hours, Liam is an Electrician. They have 3 grown up children Rosie, Anthony and Helen, who still live at home, Dee wishes the house was quiet at times, the children do nothing and don't contribute but that's all about to change. But after relying on there mother for so long how will they cope?
I really enjoyed this book, it was read in an hour and would recommend.

Fabulous book about a couple with grown children living at home and not contributing and how the parents contrived to move them out and make them pay their own way and fend for themselves. It makes me even more determined to teach my teenage girls how to look after themselves. As mentioned in the book it's easier to just do everything yourself but that doesn't help your children to get out into this big bad world of ours.
A cute little short story told in the way that only Maeve Binchy can tell one (rest in peace). This can be read in one sitting!
What to do when you've spoiled your kids to the extent that you have three adult children living back home, paying no rent, and making no effort? This book answers that question. :)
