The Awakening (The New Heroes/Quantum Prophecy #1)
It has been ten years since the great battle that wiped out all the superhumans. Whether they all died that day or simply lost their powers and blended back into society, only one thing is certain: They are gone. Or are they? Thirteen-year-olds Danny and Colin have recently begun changing. How can they explain Dannys newfound ability to move at the speed of light, or Colin...more

this book is about a time when there were many super heroes. but then they all suddely disapeared. now thre is a new era of super heroes. i heard about this book at a book fair at school. my impression of the book was that it was going to be full of action and fantasy. this book reminds me of the books of the hit TV series heroes. the authors style of writing was to have action and let things flow together so that it makes sense. this book could have been a bit longer because it left you at a cl...more

This book was action packed and flowed fast most of the way through. If you're looking for a thought provoking read filled with super powers and action, I would choose a different book. If you are looking for a fast paced read that's simplistic and easy in both reading and flow without any deep emotional pull and is just fun all around, this book is a recommend for you.

Quantum Prophecy the Awakening, by Michael Carroll was a stunning beginning to a future series of books. Although there were many characters, the book was very easy to understand and was a fun read. Michael Carroll really built a strong, well-written plot for this opening of the new series. This book will enthrall readers of many ages, especially kids and young adults.

Imagine a world with a variety of amazing superheroes but then one day they all suddenly disappear. Quantum Prophecy the Awakening is set in today’s world in both the United States and in England. The book is science fiction because of the fact that it is all about superheroes. In the book about ten years after all the superheroes disappear there is a group of three friends who are walking home together when a little girl is in the middle of the street almost getting hit by a bus when one of the...more
I enjoyed this book, but think I would have liked it even more as a kid. In the days when I hid out in the barn to read comic books about Batman and Superman and all the others, I would have found it much more exciting.
It was cool the way we got to see bits of everything: villains, heroes, people on the sidelines, but not so much of anybody at any one time that you could really tell for sure which of those categories anyone belonged to. You had to figure out for yourself who the real heroes wer...more

Quantum Prophecy: The Awakening was a good start to a potentially good series. The concept reminded me a little bit of the TV show Heroes, and this aspect is what lured me in. The main characters of this book are 13 year old boys who have just discovered that they are a little bit more than normal. Having them be so young left me with mixed feelings. It’s hard for me to connect to such young characters but at the same time, I really enjoyed watching them discover themselves.

Ten years ago, all the superheroes disappeared. No one knows what happened; there was a gigantic battle against the supervillain Ragnarok, and then they all disappeared completely from around the globe. A decade later, a new generation is about to start asking questions--and getting answers.

The Awakening was an action packed adventure that was pure fun to read. I enjoyed this book emencely! This is a perfect science fiction book for young adults.
As a reader, I was captivated from the very first chapter. The book begins with normal people given a homework assignment about the disappearance of the superhumans ten years before. Who doesn't love super heros? Who wouldn't love to be a super hero? The boys in this book feel the same way as I do. Early in the book, questions arrise when D...more

This book was such a intriguing book that Michael Carroll has developed. As the protagonist, Colin Wagner, learns about these past heroes that were the liberators and inspirations of the world. In which, disappeared or extincted. But soon enough, Colin finds out that he has inherited these super natural powers. Which thus, Colin questions himself in order to simplify this burden. And With revelation, Colin also finds out that his parents were these "past-liberators". Which then causes Colin to be...more
This book/series came to my notice when a prolific reader told me it was his favorite thing from last summer, and I can see why. A well-written, gripping action novel with plenty of suspense and superpowers. The story is set ten years after Mystery Day, when all of the world's superheroes and villains inexplicably disappeared and brought an end to the existence of superpowers. Except teens Colin and Danny suddenly discover they're capable of unexpected things, their parents are not who they thou...more
When I first started reading this book, I was a bit wary. I was afraid it was going to be a knock-off of Superman or any other Superhero that I have heard about. But I found out that Carroll writes a different take on superhumans and villians, their powers and gadgets, public opinion, the good and bad, and all the grey area in between. I was also a bit worried that it might be a little too "out there" for me. I shouldn't have been worried at all. This is a fantastic action/adventure book! I defi...more
I won't say it was incredible, or creative, but it was definitely entertaining and well worth reading. The thing that made me actually read past chapter one was the same thing that made me like this book so much: it was about super heroes...and it wasn't dirty, perverted garbage- and yes, this is the only book of its kind that I have found that hasn't been.

I can't quite decide--this was in the juvenile section at my public library but the main characters were 13 and 14. So juvenile or YA? Anyway, that said I can now go on.
I liked it. The idea is cool ... "What if there had been superhumans ... and what if they disappeared?" Their powers were different than many of the comic book movies recently released.
But I was a little lost at least a couple of times along the way. I don't know if that was on purpose ... to sort of make us feel like the charact...more

So far I really am enjoying this book. It is a bit like Fantastic Four or something. In the past, there were superhumans and supervillians. Something happened 10 years ago to make them all dissappear. I am to the part where 2 kids are just figuring out that they have special powers and someone is after them.
What a fun book. You know that there will be more, and I will be reading them. Fast paced and fun. I know that I have a tendancy to read fantacy and sci-fi, but it just has so much. You get t...more

What a great idea: In one epic battle all the super heroes wipe out all the super villains - so now what do the super heroes do? Who needs them anymore? What's a super hero to do? You could have so much fun with this plotline. Unfortunately, Mr. Carroll takes his plot SERIOUSLY. Turns out, not ALL the super villains were wiped out, and a second generation of superheroes is born, but that crucial bit of info is withheld from those tiny titans, until they hit puberty (a word they use disturbingly...more
I've had this book on my bookshelf for about a year and a half collecting dust. I thought that this book sounded really interesting when I first heard about it, I mean who can't appreciate a good old fashion super hero book every now and again.

Quantum Prophecy is a YA book by Irish author Michael Carroll, about a three kids, Danny, Colin and later Renata who discover that they posses superpowers. This is very surprising since all the superheros mysteriously vanished ten years ago. Danny can move super fast, Colin is incredibly strong and has extra-sensitive hearing, and Renata can turn completely solid.
Once this is found out Danny and Colin are whisked away to a super-secret base, safe from all public eye, where they meet Renata. Bu...more

Overall, the book was alright. It felt a bit dry and dialogue heavy at times, and felt like it was really slow to start. The ending picked up the pace, but I felt like parts of it were fairly predictable. I enjoyed sections of it (such as the safe house and Razor's character), but it didn't really make me want to pick up the next one. Granted, it also felt a bit like it was setup for the start of the story, and the next one might actually be better in that regard.

I thought it was certainly an interesting take on superheroes that's different than Marvel or DC. Carroll gives us completely new heroes to love (my favorite so far being Energy) and in actuality creates an entirely new world.
I started reading this series in high school and have since forgotten about once I couldn't find them in the bookstore. But when I found it available for Kindle edition, it sparked a renewed interest in the heroic world that Carroll created. I certainly can't wait to get m...more

Wow! This is a great start to a series! It's basically the premise of what if superheroes really did exist and then suddenly one day, didn't. Then years down the road, having kids develop those same powers. The plot was intense and kept bringing up twists and turns. The characters were interesting and well developed. I loved Colin. You could tell that he was scared but wanted to do what was right. I also actually liked Facade. I know that he was suppose to be a bad guy, but he was reformed so in...more
The Quantum Prophecy trilogy describes a world in which superheroes and supervillains were once a natural part of the world order, keeping the peace, trying to take over the world, doing their stuff. But ten years ago, one supervillain's dastardly plan went tragically awry, and all the superhumans disappeared. Now, a few young people are beginning to exhibit unusual abilities - only to discover that a world of peril and plots has been waiting for them. Dun dun DUNNN!

I just finished The Awakening and can't wait to read the next installment! Because this is referenced as a YA novel, I didn't expect too much from it, but ended up being surprised by how much it pulled me in. The character development is solid and consistent throughout QP1, Carroll's plot lines are intriguing, and the pacing was enough to keep me pretty well engaged from cover to cover. Not a lengthy novel, it whetted my appetite enough to search my local library network for the sequel. Though h...more
I think this book was really intersting to me because i loved the super powers and the discovery of it. Also the main characters in the book are really brave to the point where they will sacfrice a arm to save 10000 humans from dieing. Another thing i loved about this book was the way the author wrote it because he trys to make each part of the book really dramatic. Lastly i think the author really cared about what the reader read and did his best to keep reminding how it got to this part of act...more
I really liked The Awakening. It was an excellent superhero book, though a little predictable at times. I kind of guessed most of the plot twists a few chapters before they were revealed. The predictability didn’t take away from the story at all, because while I guessed things correctly, there were always questions leading up to the reveal. Like, I’d think I figured something out, then something would happen to make me question my theory, only for it to be proven right anyway.

There are two things that made me curious about this book. First, it was recommended to all who likes the tv series Heroes. Second, its author, Michael Carroll, was mentored by one of my favorite author, Michael Scott.

Ten years earlier, the superheroes were in a massive battle with the super-villians, when there was a gigantic explosion. Suddenly, all superpowers, hero and villian, disappeared, except for the heads of the superheros, who claim not to have been at the fight, and who promptly retire into seclusion with the absence of super-evil.
Ten years later, they still celebrate "Mystery Day", and Danny and Colin appear to be normal 13-year-old boys. But when Danny is suddenly able to move super-fast to sav...more

Good concept - there were superheroes and supervillans but they all disappeared ten years ago in the middle of an epic battle.
What happened?
Well, I can't say much more without giving away the whole plot.
I like that Carroll manages to both have a complete story with an ending and leave you hanging at the same time. I really hate it when authors just stop and say "wait until the next book." The minor story line needs to wrap up even if the major one hasn't and Carroll nails it.
