Oh Ms. Mallory does it again! Loved this one. She is such a talented author. All her books are fun, romantic, and just plain fantastic! She is def. my favorite author. All her characters and so likable too....just read it!!

2.5 stars.
This was a fairly quick read which is good because it really didn't go anywhere with the story. I felt a bit like the person trying to bike on loose sand - you pedal and pedal and don't move very quickly. Interestingly enough I expected the last book in this series to start to falter and I was pleasantly surprised that there were quite a few developments and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not so with The Witch is Back. I am team Sinjin all the way and I found it a shame that despite the prem...more

Book Review: The Witch is Back by H.P. Mallory

The Witch is Back by H.P.Mallory (Book 4 of Jolie Wilkins Series)
by Michala T.

Jolie is thrust in the her past immediately in the beginning of this novel. She is back to her Tarot Card reading days in her Los Angeles fortune-telling business. Everything is back to how it was before she learned she was a witch and things are playing its course all over again. Except this time, instead of meeting Rand first…she meets Sinjin. She immediately feels the...more

I almost hated this book. The time travel is bad enough, but (view spoiler)[ I don't even like Sinjin because he's a douche and I had no interest in seeing where things could go with him and Jolie. Honestly, the whole premise disgusted me. What a horrible, horrible thing to do to a person! I can't imagine why the Prophetess did it for him - I certainly won't trust her any longer either. I certainly don't believe their stated reasons and I'm hugely disappointed that Jolie seems to.

But really, to

I can't begin to tell you how many times I rolled me eyes reading this book. I really am starting to detest Jolie. My 5 year old has more of a backbone and sense of self worth than Jolie does. She was whining, talking to herself, and inner struggling so much that I was starting to worry that we would learn she was actually in the crazy house for schizophrenia. I mean COME ON! Nobody is THAT torn between two guys. Shit....even twilight chick knew she ultimately loved whats-his-ampire and werewolf...more

Ive got to say - this one was largely better then the 3rd. BIG SIGH OF RELIEF - we're back on track!

Granted, when I realized that we were stuck in the past and that the story would have to develop all over again I was (somewhat) frustrated. But I was happy to realize that in the end I didn't mind so much to see what would happen with Sinjn rather then with Rand. And honestly? I like Sinjin just so much more...not to mention his *drool* sexual banter. So I enjoyed the character development and al...more

I wish I could give a positive review of this installment of the Jolie series, but on the whole, I didn't enjoy it. After finishing the story, I saw no point as to why Mallory had to rewrite Jolie's history. The reason given, to give Jolie two years to strengthen her skills in order to fight the Lurkers doesn't happen, making the whole story pointless. Well, it does give Sinjin fans what they want with a Sinjin-Jolie relationship, but other than that, I felt cheated of the sto...more

Okay, so first things first, for those of you who have not yet heard of this author, quickly go find the links to find out more about her below, because you are definitely missing out!

I was introduced to this author by a friend and fellow reviewer. I instantly fell in love with the characters of the Jolie series, as well as the author's other series as well.

The story takes you into a universe that we all have wondered if exists or not under the surface of the one we live within. You quickly lea...more

HP Mallory hits it out of the ball park once again! In this installment of the Jolie Wilkins Series we revisit Los Angeles and a very similar Jolie that we first met and fell in love with. Except for a few changes, one being the mysterious, handsome and sneaky Sinjin Sinclair. Is he good, bad, or both? How does Jolie feel when she is enthralled with one man but can't shake the strange connection she feels when Rand walks in. It is hard to accept that she doesn't even recognize her long time boyf...more

Having read this series out of order (book three first, followed by one and two) it took me a minute to get my bearings when I started reading it. That said, even with my mild confusion about how the previous book ended, I was sucked in faster than a penny into a vacuum cleaner.

Jolie is back at the beginning of her story, back in her little fortune telling shop where Book One picked up, ignorant and unaware of the magical things that walk amongst us. And like the start of the series, everything...more

I have read most of H. P. Mallory's books and have enjoyed following her talented ability to weave a great tale. "The Witch is Back" was a huge disappointment for me. Instead of enjoying the story, I would think that I felt the author was rushed. Really this series could have been two great books; instead it seems to be dragging and full of fluff. Sinjin plays a larger role in this book, but I didn't feel I learned anything new about his character or his feelings. I've also gotten over the Jolie...more

I found the first book in this series while browsing the Kindle free downloads. One of my guilty pleasures has been the offerings by Laurell K. Hamilton, Charlaine Harris, Mary Janice Davidson, and Kim Harrison. If my guy friends ever found out...they would ban me from all my fantasy football leagues and revoke my "guy" card. Still I liked what I saw in book one and quickly decided that I might actually have found somebody I liked enough to fill my void between Kim Harrison (my favorite of the b...more

As a fan of books like the Undead series by MaryJanice Davidson and Tate Hallaway's Garnet Lacey , when I saw that H.P Mallory had released a new book , I knew I wanted to read it as it would be light-hearted and funny with a hitn of the paranormal and supernatural aspects. In The Witch is Back for those who haven't read any of H.P Mallory's books is almost like a prequel or a blast from the past novel of Jolie's life . In The Witch is Back , Jolie is whizzed back to her beginnings where she own...more

This has not been an easy series to get into, book one received 2 stars, book two received 3 stars and book three received four stars. So, with each addition to the series things got better and better. And now at book four, HP Mallory's Jolie Wilkins finally makes it to my Top Reads Bookshelf.

I am ecstatic where this series has gone and all credit to Mallory for bringing me back on board. I love the Dulcie O'Neil Series, but just hadn't connected with Jolie's story in the same way. Now though, I...more

H.P. Mallory is one of those authors I loved when she was self-published. Her Dulice O'Neill series is one of my favorites in the paranormal/urban fantasy genre.

Jolie Wilkins however doesn't do anything for me.

I read Witchful Thinking, and while I enjoyed it. It didn't make me say WOW! or anything like that.

This book reminded me there are some books that everyone loves, that just don't work for some people. This is one of those books, and probably one of those series.

Why?

This review is difficult to write as I am still see-sawing back and forth as I come to terms with things that take place in The Witch Is Back. I have always been a Team Rand fan and never sway once my mind is set. I hate being wishy washy. It's not me. But I have conflicting emotions with this book and I am on shaky ground on who I think should come out on top. Rand and Sinjin--both different as night and day--fight for the love of the one woman who has captured their heart. Should it be Rand, h...more

Funny and feisty witch Jolie Wilkins is back—or rather, she’s back to her humble beginnings. Propelled into the past to her old Los Angeles fortune-telling shop, Jolie has no idea she possesses extraordinary powers, and she definitely doesn’t remember becoming Queen of the Underworld. But at least she has two incredibly sexy men vying for her affection: Rand Balfour, who looks very familiar, though Jolie can’t place his gorgeous face, and Sinjin Sinclair, who is tall, dark, and perfect . . . exc...more

I am so mad at H.P. Mallory. The book just came out today, and yes I finished it. I really liked the first three books in this series. Cute, paranormal fluff. But liked the will they, won't they relationship of Jolie and Rand. I can't say too much about this book without giving away the plot. For most of the book I wanted to scream at Jolie because in this book we are transported back to the very beginning of Jolie's story and everything goes wrong from there. Put it this way, it is like an alte...more

Just a warning, if you are a stickler for details and you think too hard about the whole time travel concept and what the possible consequences of it all could be, this book could possibly drive you nuts. If you can get past that and just enjoy it for the fun story that it is, then you’ll be just fine. Of course there are still aspects of it that may drive you nuts, but since they don’t have much to do with scientific space-time continuum technical details you should be able to deal. ;)

So, what...more

Hopefully you are reading this book in series order; otherwise you’ll have NO IDEA what’s going on! Whew!

This book definitely uses the element of time-travel, propelling Jolie back to her beginnings as a witch. Not only does Jolie have strange feelings of deja vu, but I did too as I read the opening of this book. It reminded me very much of the first book in this series, Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble, up until the end of the first paragraph. Then I realized something was awry and I was feeling d...more

This is book number 4 in the Jolie Wilkins series, and it is also the first book that I read. I still enjoyed it very much though - enough that I will be adding the first 3 to my TBR list.

So, because this was my first introduction to Jolie, I was learning for the first time about Rand and Sinjin as well. It was kind of fun not knowing who was the "good" guy and who was the "bad" guy so that I could have a little mystery as to where the story was headed as well as the romance. Oh, and don't for...more

First of all, this was the best book of the entire series.

Okay, I'm staring off with a rant. I think the last two books could have been whittled down and made into one, much longer book. Jolie spends so much time talking to herself and talking herself out of things that she shouldn't, that it drives me bonkers. Okay...on to why I loved this so much.

I felt so invested in this book, this story, and that hasn't happened with the last few books I've read. I was so mad at Jolie for being dumb, at Sinjin for setting all this up in the first place. Everything...more

Round 4 with witches Jolie Wilkens, Rand Balfour and Vampire, Sinjin Sinclair. She's queen of the Underworld, withs one King apparent and one blood sucking rogue looking to steal her heart. Sinjin heads back in time - before Rand meets Jolie, to try and steer her in a new direction, a direction that moves him into the #1 slot.

Well, what can I say. Jolie's conversations with herself drive me a little batty. She always seems so wishy, washy - back and forth. Overall the action was pretty good, alt...more

The Witch is Back!! How aptly put. For those of you who started following HP before Random House picked her up like me, I hope you didn't give up on her after Witchful Thinking cause The Witch Is Back was worth the wait!

I thought that WT (the 3rd book) was kind of a let down plot wise. That's because it was a build up to this book. While I still didn't enjoy this book as much as the first 2 (self-published) in the series it was WAY better then book 3!!

And may I say Go Team RAND!!! Sinjin may be...more

I ended up confused in 'Witchful Thinking'. Jolie went back and forth so many times that I wanted to throw my Kindle down and stop reading, but I did want to know what happened so I soldiered on. One of my main complaints in the last book was the fact that she couldn't make up her mind. Still, in this book, Jolie went back and forth and back and forth. This book was better than the last book, but it still lacked what the first two books were. This book was okay. I am not sure if I'll read the la...more

I get soo tired of Jolie mental rambling, she loves Rand she is over Rand she's done with men but then she is mad at and talking to Rand about there relationship. She's spineless whiny and a weak character, when it seems like her and Rand arnt going to get together she decides to have Mercedes transport her back to. 1878 to be with that Rand, and when Mercedes refuses she throws a tantrum and gets Sinjin to run away with her by agreeing to forget Rand and be his lover, in less then 2pages she's...more

I started my writing career as a self-published author and was lucky enough to hit both the Amazon and the Barnes and Noble bestseller’s lists with my two series, the Jolie Wilkins series and the Dulcie O’Neil series. Most recently I hit the New York Times and the USA Today lists with books in the Jolie series.

I signed with Random House (Bantam imprint) to write three books in the Jolie Wilkins se...more
