Oh Ms. Mallory does it again! Loved this one. She is such a talented author. All her books are fun, romantic, and just plain fantastic! She is def. my favorite author. All her characters and so likable too....just read it!!

This was a fairly quick read which is good because it really didn't go anywhere with the story. I felt a bit like the person trying to bike on loose sand - you pedal and pedal and don't move very quickly. I almost hated this book. The time travel is bad enough, but (view spoiler)...more I almost hated this book. The time travel is bad enough, but (view spoiler)[ I don't even like Sinjin because he's a douche and I had no interest in seeing where things could go with him and Jolie. Honestly, the whole premise disgusted me. What a horrible, horrible thing to do to a person! I can't imagine why the Prophetess did it for him - I certainly won't trust her any longer either. I certainly don't believe their stated reasons and I'm hugely disappointed that Jolie seems to.

But really, to go back in time in order to meet the lady before your romantic rival does is purely evil. The descriptions of their/her developing love made me sick. I skimmed the love scenes because I essentially viewed them as Jolie being made into sexual assault victim. Sure, she's cool with it in alternate universe land, but the real her had no choice. I was actually a bit angry about it. We never learn anything more about Sinjin's motivation or inner self either, so what was the point?

And speaking of Jolie - I don't know how fate decreed that such a baby would be in charge of the Underworld. She loves him, she doesn't. She's confused. She doesn't know if she likes this. She doesn't understand. She trusts him, but now she doesn't, and now she does. At nearly 30 who sits in the car stalker-style outside of a dude's house? I take back my comments about her having common sense - she obviously doesn't. I thought she was growing and changing through the last couple of books, but it was all wiped away in this book, literally right back to the beginning and the girl I didn't really like.

It was nice to see Rand step up and rescue her though. He finally showed some determination and the balls to be in a relationship with her instead of being wishy washy. And, unlike Sinjin, he didn't have to manipulate Jolie - or the UNIVERSE - to do it. I know many readers don't like him, but he's a much better choice than Sinjin.

I feel like this book wasn't at all necessary to the series. It seemed more like a convenient plot contrivance to show Jolie and Sinjin together, without ruining the whole story arc. (hide spoiler)]

I'll read the next in the series, but I'll probably try to pretend this installment didn't happen.(less)

I can't begin to tell you how many times I rolled me eyes reading this book. I really am starting to detest Jolie. My 5 year old has more of a backbone and sense of self worth than Jolie does. She was whining, talking to herself, and inner struggling so much that I was starting to worry that we would learn she was actually in the crazy house for schizophrenia. I mean COME ON! Ive got to say - this one was largely better then the 3rd. BIG SIGH OF RELIEF - we're back on track!

Granted, when I realized that we were stuck in the past and that the story would have to develop all over again I was (somewhat) frustrated. I wish I could give a positive review of this installment of the Jolie series, but on the whole, I didn't enjoy it. After finishing the story, I saw no point as to why Mallory had to rewrite Jolie's history. The reason given, to give Jolie two years to strengthen her skills in order to fight the Lurkers doesn't happen, making the whole story pointless. I wish I could give a positive review of this installment of the Jolie series, but on the whole, I didn't enjoy it. After finishing the story, I saw no point as to why Mallory had to rewrite Jolie's history. The reason given, to give Jolie two years to strengthen her skills in order to fight the Lurkers doesn't happen, making the whole story pointless. Well, it does give Sinjin fans what they want with a Sinjin-Jolie relationship, but other than that, I felt cheated of the story moving forward. I didn't want or need to revisit Jolie in her tarot-reading card days. The book almost felt like a "do-over", which is not a good thing for a series to do.

Another problem: the Lurkers. Readers didn't learn much about them in the previous book and they don't learn anything more about them in this book. That's two books where the reader is told that the Lurkers are a serious threat to the Underworld, yet we have no idea who they are, where they are, and what they want. We just know--from the last book--that they're dangerous and that Jolie will have to face them. So, this plot went absolutely nowhere and is becoming a little hard to take seriously if the author herself hasn't taken the time to give readers a reason to care about the dangerous Lurkers.

For me, Jolie is still problematic as a gifted Queen of the Underworld. I don't see her as a strong individual; in fact, in this version of Jolie's past, she's insecure, needy and gullible. When Sinjin convinces her that she's a powerful witch, I couldn't buy it. There's nothing to Jolie's character to even hint that she is formidable. Even after she regains her memories, I am not convinced she has what it takes to lead the Underworld. I suppose other characters see her greatness and we should believe them. But, I just can't make that leap.

Finally, the writing style. The inner dialogue got tiresome. Jolie's inner struggle should be expressed clearly enough that Jolie (and Mallory) doesn't have to lean on that crutch as much as she does. Another writing crutch was Mallory telling her readers when Jolie was experiencing something. Throughout the book you can find the following phrases (and more): "That was when it hit me", "And that was when I remembered", "And that was when I realized". The narrative should make it clear what's going on, and it usually is clear, so I find these lead-in phrases annoying and unnecessary.

Overall, I was disappointed in this book. I hope the series moves forward, both in plot and character development. (less)

I was introduced to this author by a friend and fellow reviewer. I instantly fell in love with the characters of the Jolie series, as well as the author's other series as well.

The story takes you into a universe that we all have wondered if exists or not under the surface of the one we live within. You quickly learn that things are not as they appear and that just below the surface is a bubbling and exciting unknown that our heroine falls into and has to learn to maneuver.

Okay, so there is a little bit of back story. For "The Witch is Back," we find the story picks up precisely where it left off in "Witchful Thinking." Of course, the vampire is up to his old tricks and will not be left without having won the prize he so desperately feels he deserves. But all hope is not lost, folks.

"The Witch is Back" takes readers on a veritable roller coaster ride through twists and turns and ins and outs of a universe that will make you question EVERYTHING. Yes, Vampires, werewolves and witches really do exist and in this exciting tale, there is no lack of action and adventure, as well as a few steamy romance scenes as well.

Fair warning, this is not a "YA" title. There are scenes held within these pages that are a bit risque and not for the faint at heart.

In my opinion, this series is a must have for all fans of the paranormal, fantasy, paranormal romance and the like. If you want a glimpse at vampires that will starkly contrast what we learned in "Twilight," then this is the novel for you!

On another note, I have had occasion to personally "sit down" with this author, and she is all about her fans and has some great communities on facebook dedicated to her fans. Maybe we can get her to chime in here and tell us all where to find them?

Having read this series out of order (book three first, followed by one and two) it took me a minute to get my bearings when I started reading it. That said, even with my mild confusion about how the previous book ended, I was sucked in faster than a penny into a vacuum cleaner.

You know that pesky vampire who conspires to send you back in time to make you feel loved but your nemesis tries to kill you? The your boyfriend from your past/future/past-future saves you. Don't know that one huh? Me neither. But it is a pretty original idea for a novel.

Well, this is certainly not the book to begin this serial series with but with it Mallory does put the series back on track. Seriously, I thought the preceding volume in this witchy-chick-lit series, WITCHFUL THINKING was sending it right over the edge of plausible readability because I felt the invented world was unraveling with resurrections, ir., magic without cost, and time travel and the Jolie Wilkins character had become just too wishy washy and weak to have ever survived the ordeals of the plot.It also ended on a cliff hanger or at least a cliff staircase.

This book picks up exactly where WITCHFUL THINKING lets off, sort of; it may take a few minutes to catch on to what is happening. And, if you hadn't read WITCHFUL THINKING you would be completely lost. In this story, Jolie seems to gain some common sense although she is still pretty persuasible for a monarch (spoiler, roll mouse over to read) and the ending we expect and probably want to see doesn't occur. And, the character of Rand is a bit Dudley DoRight; I would actually prefer the vampire to a saintly type. We'll see if the next volume, SOMETHING WITCHY THIS WAY COMES finally drops the witch in question into the right bed.
And, that's how they sell books!

This has not been an easy series to get into, book one received 2 stars, book two received 3 stars and book three received four stars. So, with each addition to the series things got better and better. And now at book four, HP Mallory's Jolie Wilkins finally makes it to my Top Reads Bookshelf.

H.P. Mallory is one of those authors I loved when she was self-published. Her Dulice O'Neill series is one of my favorites in the paranormal/urban fantasy genre.

Jolie Wilkins however doesn't do anything for me.

I read Witchful Thinking, and while I enjoyed it. It didn't make me say WOW! or anything like that.

This book reminded me there are some books that everyone loves, that just don't work for some people. This is one of those books, and probably one of those series.

Rand came across a wee bit disappointing at the beginning. He seemed to give up without even beginning to fight for Jolie. It left me with a major WTF moment until the pace of the story picked up and Rand came to Jolie's rescue.

With The Witch Is Back, the story starts out with Sinjin and Jolie 'dating' and Rand now finds himself in the position of trying to convince Jolie that Sinjin's motives are false. Which becomes rather difficult, as Jolie refuses to see or speak to him. Bella is also in the picture and has put a charm on Jolie in order to keep Rand away.

Jolie struggles with why someone as charasmatic, charming, and drop-dead gorgeous as Sinjin would want to be with her. And she finds herself falling in love with the sexy Vamp. For those readers who are Team Sinjin, you will be happy to see a more passionate side to their relationship. And I must say that my own heart raced. Sinjin can be very persuasive, the dirty little devil.

However, secrets and lies plague this story and Jolie doesn't know who to believe--but she knows she has a strong attraction to both men. Even when she struggles against Rand, her feelings are strong for him and it just seems "right" in his arms. But Sinjin has made her question everything about Rand's motives.

The story starts out slow, but picks up quickly at the midway point. And although the reader is aware of Sinjin's deception, you can't help but feel sorry for him. In my heart of hearts, I think Sinjin truly loves Jolie. But his character flaws lead him to make disasterous mistakes--and a biggie one at that. His lies cost him Jolie's trust and love. And the valued friendship between the two is now on shaky ground.

There is so much that can still happen in this series. Now that things seem to be settled, will Jolie be able to forget what happened between her and Sinjin? And what of the threat of the Lurkers?

The last book, Something Witchy This Way Comes, is expected to be released September 25.

I am so mad at H.P. Mallory. The book just came out today, and yes I finished it. I really liked the first three books in this series. Cute, paranormal fluff. But liked the will they, won't they relationship of Jolie and Rand. I can't say too much about this book without giving away the plot. For most of the book I wanted to scream at Jolie because in this book we are transported back to the very beginning of Jolie's story and everything goes wrong from there. Just a warning, if you are a stickler for details and you think too hard about the whole time travel concept and what the possible consequences of it all could be, this book could possibly drive you nuts. If you can get past that and just enjoy it for the fun story that it is, then you’ll be just fine. Of course there are still aspects of it that may drive you nuts, but since they don’t have much to do with scientific space-time continuum technical details you should be able to deal. ;)

This is book number 4 in the Jolie Wilkins series, and it is also the first book that I read. I still enjoyed it very much though - enough that I will be adding the first 3 to my TBR list.

Okay, I'm staring off with a rant. I think the last two books could have been whittled down and made into one, much longer book. Jolie spends so much time talking to herself and talking herself out of things that she shouldn't, that it drives me bonkers. Okay...on to why I loved this so much.

The Witch is Back!! How aptly put. For those of you who started following HP before Random House picked her up like me, I hope you didn't give up on her after Witchful Thinking cause The Witch Is Back was worth the wait!

I thought that WT (the 3rd book) was kind of a let down plot wise. That's because it was a build up to this book. While I still didn't enjoy this book as much as the first 2 (self-published) in the series it was WAY better then book 3!!

I ended up confused in 'Witchful Thinking'. Jolie went back and forth so many times that I wanted to throw my Kindle down and stop reading, but I did want to know what happened so I soldiered on. One of my main complaints in the last book was the fact that she couldn't make up her mind. Still, in this book, Jolie went back and forth and back and forth. I get soo tired of Jolie mental rambling, she loves Rand she is over Rand she's done with men but then she is mad at and talking to Rand about there relationship. She's spineless whiny and a weak character, when it seems like her and Rand arnt going to get together she decides to have Mercedes transport her back to. 1878 to be with that Rand, and when Mercedes refuses she throws a tantrum and gets Sinjin to run away with her by agreeing to forget Rand and be his lover, in less then 2pages she's...more
