Nikki is a boring 17 year old girl who faints and cries every chance she gets. Nikki or Dikki as I like to call her somehow manages to get caught up in the war between heaven and hell. Naturally Dikki gets three hot protectors who DUN DUN DUN just so happen to be half human and aw yea half angel..I think I shall call them halfies, no half&half, no 50:50, no I've got it..I shall call them halflings...unoriginal you say? lame you say? uninspired you say? Well then you'd be 100% right.

New cover reveal. And yes, my goodreads friends, you are seeing it here first! I'm really happy with the new cover! When I first started writing Halflings, I always imagined the cover red. :) Big big thanks to the team who created it.

The main character in this story, Nikki, is supposedly a kick-ass girl who has a black belt in karate and rides a motorcycle. She is leading a "normal" until until suddenly, everywhere she turns, she is being attacked by evil creatures and she doesn't know why.

Luckily she has 3 half-human, half-angel protectors to watch over her. Mace, Raven, and Vine exist in a halfway between Earth and Heaven, and are outcasts in them both. Mace in particular feels inexplicably drawn to Nikki. But the 3 guardi

I was excited to get this for review! The cover isn't as beautiful as the other debuts, but the story sure is good. I had to read it on my kindle app. Since I don't have a kindle and I hate reading on my laptop because it's so seriously -___- So I finally found a way to read the books on my iPod. It took me about 2 and a half days? I stand up all night today, finishing it. It was so addicting, I could not put the book down. I love the pl

Halflings has all the recipe of what I can consider as a train wreck. Love triangle. Ick. A heroine with a predisposition to whining crying waffling. Double ick. A plot that seemed to veer off in several directions without a defined course. Triple...well, you know. Ick. It started out so good - action right
"Halflings" seemed to me like a half-hearted attempt at a paranormal/urban fantasy story for the YA audience. My words might be blunt in that, but it was difficult to find much to like and hold interest through much of the novel. I found that it often skipped from one event to the next without proper transition, the characters were quite underdeveloped, and many familiar paranormal tropes were forced without so much as any development in the worldbuilding for this fantastical realm, with some as ...more

Halflings has a fantastic storyline with plenty of action, drama, and romance—all what I love in a novel. Heather Burch has finally done what I have wanted to see in a triangle romance for a long time. Burch's writing was also fantastic and exciting, she kept me glued to this story with a cliffhanger ending that had me loving the main character Nikki. Burch has taken the half-human and half-angel that we are familiar with and given it a new twist. And the intriguing storyline had me loving the H ...more
I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to read this book. I hope my review does it justice. Thank you and Zondervan publishers for allowing me to review an ARC copy of Halflings by Heather Burch.

Halflings is an amazing YA novel that absolutely had me parked in my kindle. It rocked my world!

I received this from NetGalley. I became enchanted from the start. Halflings is the telling of half-human half-angels, figures sent to protect Nicole Youngblood. Not sure of their journey, Mace, Raven and Vine aka The Lost Boys. They keep close tabs on Nikki. Even saving her life a few times. Towards the middle of the story their is a love triangle between Mace, Nikki and Raven. However it is forbidden for Halflings to fall in love. Rather not be the downfall for either boy. Nikki tries to contr ...more

A very different YA novel, from beginning to end this book will rock your world. Nikki is a 17 year old junior in high school, from there she is unlike any other teenager you would ever meet.

Guarded by three Halflings, Vine, Mace, and Raven with their guardian Will. Nikki finds the world of angels, half angels and demonic forces within a breath of her own world. Nikki is the target of the baddies, though we never find out why, (presume that will be part of Vol. 2)the action never lags. Having two

Review: I admit, it's hard for me to love angel books, typically. I'm not sure why but only rarely do they grab my attention. But, Halflings was incredible! Definitely in the top 3 angel books I've ever read and I can't wait to get the 2nd book in the series.

I did not finish this book, however, since I read half of it, I am going to give my thoughts on that half and explain why I chose not to finish.

I thought the premise sounded really interesting. I’ve never read an angel book and was looking forward to seeing how that story line was played out. Also, the summary promised some swoon-worthy lovin’ and I’m always up for that.

There were several formatting issues with my Kindle and while I appreciate that this was a PDF not formatted for the Kindle, it

When I was approved to read and review this book through NetGalley I was more than excited. First off, the cover is just like pure beauty is it not? I have a thing for the color red I think. Secondly the blurb caught my attention right away. I love the whole angel theme, and this was a great little twist from other angel books out there. This book wasted no time catching your attention and hurling you into all the action. From page o
I don't know... I guess this just isn't my type of book. First of all, it bothered me that the Halflings (half-human, half-angel) were like doomed to hell because of their parents' sin. That doesn't make sense and I feel like this book shouldn't talk about the Bible, and Jesus's sacrifice, and then add in some thing about these half-humans who can't belong to the kingdom of heaven even if they want to. But... I guess that's what I get for reading angel fantasy!

Um, I got a little bored at some pa

The love triangle in this story is pretty good. Raven is the bad boy in the story. He was presented as the one having a darker side. I love the fact that Raven acts like a tough guy, but gets derailed whenever he's around Nikki. I found it cute. On the other hand, there are also tender moments between Nikki and Mace. I also love the forbidden love theme of the story (halflings cannot fall in love with humans). I was deeply affected when Mace rejected N

I really enjoyed Halflings! It was amazing. It had me gasping, crying, awing, and doing a little happy dance. The writing was very well written and it was enjoyable all around.

Cover: The cover is quite simple. The wings in the background have a meaning, but I'm not gonna mention it! :) I love the simplicity of it. Some covers can rock the over done look, but this works perfectly!

Plot: The plot kept me interested throughout the whole book. It had many plot twists, even though I saw some of them

Review by Jill Williamson

Some strange things are happening to Nikki Youngblood. She’s been chased by ugly dogs and followed by some really cute guys. And she’s not sure why. The next thing she knows, all three guys enroll in her school and are in all her classes! How weird is that? But the more she learns about Mace, Raven, and Vine, the more she learns about why those weird things were happening to her. One thing is certain: life will never be the same!

Whoo! Now this was a fun read—and a quick

I am so confused by this book. From the very beginning I could barely follow it. For all the characters, we are told one thing about them, and see them act in ways that totally contradict what we've been told. They are all trying so badly to fit into stereotypes it hurts.

Nikki has potential to be a great protagonist; self sufficient, strong, brave. We are told she is all these things. And yet - she spends so much time crying and fainting that you get whiplash.

Jessica (Books: A true story)
The first thing that caught my attention about Halflings was the beautiful, visual writing. It reminded me of The Mortal Instrument series but more religious since it talked about heaven, hell and God (but not in a preachy way). Peter Pan felt like an inspiration for some aspects of the book, especially the Halfling characters. Peter Pan is one of my favorite books and I loved the way it influenced this story. The only thing I didn’t like about this book was the term “Halflings” because it invok ...more

Halflings. Half human... half angel.

That's all I needed to know!
It starts off quick with lots of action and you instantly get sucked right in, running through the forest and trying to catch your breath while trying to figure out what is going on, right along with Nikki Youngblood.
Nikki was definitely not who I expected her to be! From the synopsis, I got the impression of 'damsel in distress', but she is quite the opposite - this girl is super smart, gutsy, stubborn and forthright.

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Where to begin? To start off, I really wanted to like this story. There are a lot of good ideas in here. Unfortunately, to me, this book was a soup pot filled with good idea and bad execution.
Nikki is your average paranormal book heroine. She doesn’t believe in her beauty. She is not really a girly girl. And she is generally smart. Not terrible that this is the structure for most paranormal books these days. In fact, I rea

I love the cover of Halflings. There's something about the expression of the girl in the cover that grabs your attention and makes you not want to look away until you've figured it out.

Halflings wasn’t afraid to sink its teeth straight into the action! The book opens with Nikki, a perfectly normal girl, being chased by “hell hounds”. Hovering in the background are Mace, Raven and Vine who have been assigned to protect her. Who

There is a major love triangle going on here. Between two halfings and a mortal. In the modern world known as Mace and Raven, who are both majorly crushing on Nikki. They were sent there to watch over her with their other brother Vine ,but as they get to know her they both fall under her spell. You see she's not just any other mortal she can see their realm. They both fall for her for different reasons,Raven for her strength and Mace for her love of the world. But Nikki's worried when three female ...more

This book was largely fine if you like teen stories, apart from the supernatural element of the boys being half-angel. The instant mooning romance had me giggling frequently, but the heroine was a reasonably nice girl and I felt the brief positive presentation of Catholics (the heroine finds protection in a Catholic church and talks to a priest) was quite refreshing after seeing a number of slaps at Catholicism in the evangelical market.

The thing that didn't work for me was the "angel boys" aspe
