Tears of the Broken (Dark Secrets #1)
by
A.M. Hudson (Goodreads Author)
"Powerfully integrated vampire series."
An epic romantic fantasy. The entire series is a journey to watch one girl grow and find that love is something you fight for, not a gift you can take for granted, combined with a sexy vampire and a deeper, darker mystery lurking underneath it all.

Let me warn you right from the top that this is going to be a pretty gushy review. But I won't apologize for that! Tears of the Broken is my type of book! Yes, I'm a sucker for romance and this book is full of it! Yes, I love paranormal and this book has that as well. I admit to having the biggest, cheesiest grin on my face for a lot of the time as I was reading this. It was just like my favourite chocolate. You know how you just want to savour it so that it lasts longer, but you just cant... Yo...more

There was not a thing that I did not LOVE about this book. Extremely well written story. I totally got a feel for the world she has created. Story line flows well and easy to follow.
'Ara' as she has shortened her name, she is very well developed. She stays true to who she is through out the story and you can see her growth. I loved her. She has lost someone dear to her and that plays into who she is now.

Ok, so I don't write reviews, because in my opinion if you truly want to read a book... you will, regardless of what someone else's review said.
With that being said, if you like Twilight, read it.
Tears of the Broken reads a lot like Twilight and New Moon put together minus Jacob, the sparkling skin and the leaving parts. But with the threatening of leaving and all that vampy fun stuff. Ok I take that back, I do write reviews...but very small reviews. I don't have a way with words like others do...more

This story starts with a prologue that doesn't relate to any part in this book, quite misleading too. With references to the classic tale of Snow White, I'd have thought Tears of the Broken would be a retelling (turns out it's almost a retelling...too many similarities to the Twilight series). I'd have thought that the incident of the main character Ara's still-birth, then come to life, would have a significant connection to later developments in the story, but not. Nothing relates!

As the first Novel in the Dark Secrets series Tears of the Broken is all about setting the stage for a blossoming love between Ara -rose; a girl with a heart breaking and tragic past, and David Knight a vampire who will do anything he can to save Ara from herself.
As a Y.A. novel this was a read that delivered a realistic view of the life of a teenage girl (who just happens to fall for a vampire of course). There was no candy coating, no attempt to make her seem more mature than her age. A.M. Hud...more

The synopsis is very vague for this book so I wasn't really sure what to expect so when I read some reviews before starting this book people were associating it with Twilight and I used to like the Twilight books until I realised how bad they were so I was a little wary when I started this book but I have to say that it holds its own against the Twilight books! I didn't really enjoy this book as much as I thought I would though! I thought that the pace was quite slow and at some points it dragge...more
If I had read this before Twilight, I think I would have liked this alot more. The begining held my interest and I think that if it had taken a different direction it would have been awesome. I enjoyed the characters and how it was written. However, it started going along the same lines of Twilight and I couldn't help but comparing the two while reading it. I am going to think a while about continuing the series.

I dont know how but I'm finding all these free books that are actually good! This book was no exception. I usually don't like the love at first sight crap. Because face it, it's bull crap! But in this book the author did it in a way where it works. Where it sounds believeable. I love how David is just the sweetest person, and when he standed up for Ara (which is what she likes to be called) aganist those girls I was like "AHHHHHHH!" You can't get a better dude than that. The only bad side to thi...more
I felt the story in itself was a great story. It has much promise and merit, however I found the inner dialogue with Ara to be downright annoying. She's a total brat. If the author was trying to get across how confusing a teenage girl could be, she did that it spades, but it's been my experience conflict and confusion doesn't equal bi-polar. By the time I reached 1/4 into this book I was only reading to get to the end. Then when I reach the end, it's to be continued. I was like "Are you serious?...more
This is a terrible book. Absolutely awful. For one, new girl meets vampire boy, hmm sound familiar? The author ha clearly tried to change a few things to make it different from twilight but it's essentially The same.
Stories where the main character keeps hinting at some terrible event that happened in the past are frustrating, and this is what happens repeatedly in this book.
The main character is even more sullen and unlikeable than Bella, if that's possible, and it really seems like the author...more

Ok, there were some Twilight similarities; how can there not be with the whole "vampire boy falls for troubled teen girl" storyline. But guess what - I loved Twilight, so that was a plus for me.
Now I really liked this book, but not quite loved. There were just a couple of things holding me back. First, (and this is a very minor issue, but it was troughout the book and it bugged me) Ara-Rose was from Australia, so she used the word Mum instead of Mom. Ara-rose!!! A book about a teen psychopath girl who drools over hot boys and a compulsive overeater! Stephanie Meyer would probably choke on her coffee if she found out this book was compared to Twilight series.
Bella was never sooooooo cheap.
Halfway through the book and all I could find some silly love talks and Ara's stomach growling and she is eating..and the whole procedure simply repeats itself. I don't understand why someone has to write 200 pages on how well two people are spending a roma...more

Over all I enjoyed the story.
It pulled me in and for the most part kept my attention.
(view spoiler)
What I didn’t like about it was that after the first half of the story there were points that were getting a bit too dragged-out and even repetitive (at least for me), because of that aspect it took away from the initial enjoyment of the story.

Wow pretty much sum's up this book and the ones that follow.
I had not heard of these books at all until last week, it popped up on a list of recommended books to read and i just thought i would give it a go. I bought this book on my kindle Thursday night and i just could not put it down! Finishing the first book within a couple of hours, i straight away bought the next 3 and sleep went completely out of the window for the next 2 days lol.

I LOVED this book! it has twists and turns on every page that makees it impossible put it down.
Sometimes Ara aggrivated me a little, but i think her personality is so real. She isn't made a perfect, strong, independent person. Yes, in some ways she is very strong, but she isn't perfect which makes her very easy to connect with.
There are many heartbreaking parts in this book, and if your a very emotional reader you may even have watery eyes. I know i did.I definatley Have Knight fever! David is...more

Whaaaaat can I say? Sookie Stackhouse opened my eyes to more vampire lit (because you can only read Twilight so many times).
I would definitely say this is some kind of fanfiction, but A.M. Hudson manages to make you forget about that by including some different story lines.
Differences
David (*Sigh of relief*)
- doesn't sparkle
- doesn't drink animal blood
- doesn't feel cold as ice
Her main character, Ara
- actually on the fence about this whole the-love-of-my-life-is-a-vampire thing, which any norm...more

Overall, I thought the book was good, although a bit slow in getting into the main plot of the story. Ara started off as a sweet character, yet depressed...but near the end her character seemed obsessed with David biting her, and being able to taste his blood, but not wanting to become a vampire herself. Hopefully, the next book will clarify her awkward behavior, and reveal Mike's role in the story.
I've been reading some pretty depressing books recently so I decided to read something a little more light hearted snd that's exactly what I got with Tears of the Broken. Ok so, it definitely reminded me of Twilight, the same concept but with very different prsonalities, but so what? I wanted something gushy and soppy and I wasn't disapointed.

I really loved this book for a couple of reasons. First – it had some really beautiful writing. In fact, I even highlighted one passage and sent it to a friend exclaiming how that is what the perfect guy should say. And second, it actually made me cry!
You start off with a brief introduction to Ara in a short prologue. As soon as I read the prologue, I was excited. Amara-Rose was born lifeless, and brought to life when her father took her in his arms. The imagery was sad, beautiful, and happy al...more

(4.5 Rating) This is a very intense, intriguing, and sometimes emotional read! It kept me thinking and guessing. The main character Ara's past issues really make you feel for her as a young girl that has had her whole world turned upside down! A.M. Hudson does a great job of getting the reader invested in the characters. While reading I was reminded of Twilight a bit which was eventually referenced in the storyline. This first installment of the Dark Secrets Series ends with a cliff hanger... I...more
A decent book that needs an editor. If even I notice mistakes, the book seriously needs an editor. Although it was lengthy, it didn't seem to terribly tedious. Again, the novel needs an editor, plain and simple. Lots of baby fat to be trimmed, and a few unnecssay points which didn't quite match the rest of the story.
The story goes often into Twilight territory, only the "Bella" has a bit of a personality (as insufferable as it may be.) David, the "Edward" of the story is still just as stalkerish...more

This book started out a bit slow for me and had the makings of a twilight type story with a melancholy girl in a new high school who falls in love with the gorgeous loner guy who never dates anyone. There were a few differences such as David being so into her in the beginning and Ara taking a bit of time to fall for him but then the story sounded similar when he tells her her is a vampire and needs to leave her to protect her. I had figured it out way before Ara did with all the signs such as fa...more
This is simply THE BEST Series I've ever read. I didn't read anything about it before starting it, no reviews, nothing. My friend shared it with me on Kindle, and since the first series she shared with me got me so hooked, I had no reason to question. I am glad I went in 'blind', if you will, because it still gave me the thrill of finding out about the vampire ( although it didn't take long to figure out ). A.M. Hudson is an amazing author... she so wonderfully explains each character, making yo...more

For die-hard Twilight fans, this book could be really great or really bad. Bad because the story of Ara-Rose has the same outlines as Bella's (move to new town, new school, Vampire and so on..) and I know some fans that take offense to a seemingly "copied" story. “Well.” He grinned and picked an ant off the rug, then tossed it onto the grass. “I usually avoid eating comedians as much as possible.”
“Why?” I asked slowly.
