Jeff Bennington’s TWISTED VENGEANCE is a harrowing paranormal crime thriller about Indianapolis PD Detective Rick Burns’ attempt to solve a baffling series of gruesome murders.
Burns is unlike the usual hard-boiled detective in crime thrillers. He is an accomplished professional, but also a man struggling with powerful inner issues: the death of a child, an incapacitating injury to his mother when he was a youngster, his brother’s untimely death, a love unfulfilled because of his misplaced sens...more

INCREDIBLE PARANORMAL TWIST

I have to say, this is the best book I have ever read involving paranormal. Once I finished this unbelievable novel, I felt the same way I did after seeing the movie, Sixth Sense. The end took me by surprise and I love surprises.

I see now why, author, Jeff Bennington wanted me to read this exciting, mind bending, action packed novel. He knows how much I love all his ghostly writings and this one blew me away!

Child and spousal abuse are taken to a whole new level of ven...more

Review of Twisted Vengeance
By Jeff Barrington

I am always blest to open a book and find my attention captured from the first page. Almost all writing courses and how-to books recommend use of the “reader’s hook,” by which an author captures the reader’s attention and never lets go; but honestly, not every writer seems to manage this. “Twisted Vengeance” accomplishes it in spades-from first page on, escalating the fear, the terror, the suspense, the mysteriousness of “reality”-this is a can’t-be-p...more

I absolutely fell head over heels for Detective Rick Burns. He is the nice guy, the stand-up brother, the son who tries to live up to his Dad's expectations. He tries to play by the rules and it's starting to wear on him. His life starts to unravel when a slew of unsolved murders takes over Indianapolis. The work of a serial killer, all of the victims are violent domestic abusers. A small, sickly boy shows up and seems to be the key Detective Burns needs to unlock the killer's identity. The only...more

A human struggle against the paradigm of evil

Not for the faint of heart, Jeff Bennington’s ‘Twisted Vengeance’ is a brilliantly crafted tale of deep passions and haunting pasts. It’s these elements that introduce a riveting plot of paranormal twists with well developed characters. This is ultimately a battle of good versus an unknown and seemingly unstoppable evil. Clear some time in your schedule because once Rick starts the hunt, you won’t want to put this book down.

***I usually don't give spoilers to books that I read but I am giving one to this book. If you are wanting to read this book then don't read this review because it will give away the ending.****************

You start out following a detective who has been investigating these murders where there is no evidence and no way that a human could have killed them because how each of them was killed. He starts to see a boy that through most of the book I assumed was a ghost because how he acts and some of...more

Twisted Vengeance follows a police detective as he connects a series of gruesome deaths. Protagonist Rick Burns gets a break on a two year backlog of unsolved cases when he is contacted by a tight-lipped juvenile witness. As a character piece, Twisted fell short, despite a roll call of supporting roles: the sibling rival, the protective father, the buddy cop, and the unattainable love interest. Burns reads like an assembly of traits without a soul binding them together, or an ethereal presence d...more

Twisted Vengeance
By Jeff Bennington
Introduction:

The author manipulates the beginning, middle, and ending of the storyline in a way that draws the reader into the plot. The promise to the reader in my opinion; is a tantalizing view into the mind of detective burns as he investigates crime scenes in order to catch a killer. You get a since that the mood of the story is dark and menacing. The beginning definitely reels you into the story, with great anticipation.

Genre: Thriller

I actually would like to give this book 3.5 stars. I enjoyed the story and I didn't want to put it down. I will say, however, that this book is not for everyone. If you don't enjoy God/Satan supernatural story lines, then you probably won't like this book. Also some of the murder scene descriptions are a little graphic. I enjoy that, but I know some don't. There were a couple of editing errors, but not so many that it was distracting. Overall, it was an enjoyable book. It was a nice surprise giv...more

This is the third book of Jeff's that I've read and each one is better than the last. I really liked the premise behind the story, and I would love to see the character of Rick continue on in more books.

Twisted Vengeance was a pretty good book. I especially enjoyed the first half -- building up the mystery. I knew what was going to happen at some parts, but others surprised me. It was all very suspenseful and I didn't want to put it down.

The only complaint I had was over the ending. It wasn't so much the way the book ended, but I felt like a few of the details didn't really add up. I can't really go into specifics without spoiling the plot, but some of the murders didn't really match up with t...more

****Spoilers****

Pros: Good mystery, for instance I could not make up my mind whether or not the boy was a ghost or real. And I didn't know the "killer" till she was revealed.

Cons: Took me awhile to get into it. The middle was really good, but then the ending was horrible. It's not that I always expect a happy ending, but I felt this came out of nowhere. I had to reread it a few times because I felt I missed something. I also felt Rick was a whiny character and Stella was a weak character. Only...more

Twisted Vengeance by Jeff Benington is a detective story that is dark, gritty and definitely twisted. Usually part of the enjoyment I derive from reading a detective-thriller murder mystery is figuring out who did the deed. However, with Mr. Benington’s mystery I was completely twisted in knots by the terrifying turns within the story.

This book us is definitely one that you won't be able to put down. From the first page to the end it will keep you guessing. There is a lot going on in this book but it flows so fluently that it's easy to read. The character development is wonderful, as is the plot. Some may say there are things in here that are "too unbelievable", but guess what folks..................It's a Supernatural Thriller and one the best I've read in quite a long time. Sit back, grab a cup of coffee (or tea if you pref...more

It was a little hard to rate this book. The story was engaging, and for the most part it was entertaining. But thinking about it, there were a few half metaphors sort of thrown in and not properly addressed. There were several times when activities for divisions were pointed out, but not addressed anymore. After reading it, there was a huge feeling of “what's going on? What am I missing?” Aside from that, the ending was disappointing, and the whole last chapter was unnecessary and irrelevant, no...more

When I was scrolling through my twitter feed a while back, a tweet from @TweetTheBook caught my attention, mentioning that Jeff Bennington’s latest book, Twisted Vengeance, was available for free download from Amazon.com. I’d read and reviewed Jeff’s supernatural thriller Reunion for this blog. I really enjoyed that book, so add my previous pleasant experience with his writing and the chance to get a free copy from Amazon, and wham-o, I’m there.

not a bad book. not on a par with dean koontz or stephen king, but pretty solid reading. it's hard to make paranormal fiction believable, especially when working in an established genre. this is a noir detective story with some rather dramatic twists and turns. the characters, for the most part, are interesting and believable, though at times their actions and feelings made no sense to me. so with a few reservations, i would recommend this book to those who like creepy mysteries.

Pretend you're completely lucid. Your family has been broken, you love someone who doesn't love you and you're a policeman on a serial killer case. Now, add a ghostly boy who shows up and, "boom": you're now in a dream. Or are you still in reality? The juxtaposition of real and nightmare are mixed like a cake batter in this nail-biter. It's difficult to reveal too much, so take the trip (but don't read it in the dark!!) Thanks Mr. Bennington, for another chewed-up set of finger nails! LOL!!

This one was both interesting, and weird. At times it seemed normal, and then there was the supernatural part of it. The characters, Rick and Stella seemed to like each other part of the time, and then not. Rick was a police detective, and Stella, his dead brother's widow. Benjii was a strange little boy who always seemed to be around Violent death. I read it on my husband's Kindle.

This was a Good Reads " First Reads " Win for me.. :)
I must say the title has it right it is a TWISTED book.. It was a good read but a book that kind of left you like HUH.. REALLY.. You think you have it figured out in time to have the rug ripped out from under you.. I could not believe how the twist in the book affected me.. I will leave it at that if you wanna know what happens.. READ THE BOOK.. :)

Very good book, I couldn't put it down once I started reading. All the twists and turns keep the reader guessing and the story line is well written and interesting. It's easy to get caught up in the characters and loose track of time with this one. I highly recommend this one for a quick summer read that will give you chills on a hot summer day.

I liked this -- or, I liked Rick and Stella. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was truly happening, and kept second-guessing myself -- which is good, as a mystery reader that's what you want. I did skip ahead a few pages here and there to avoid the gritty spots. Some good twists, for sure. I will read the next one.

A paranormal thriller with heart. Treat yourself to this thriller about a dedicated cop, a little boy with a special talent and the woman that loves them.

This was a true surprise; not the writing, I knew that would be great and not the storytelling, I've read books by Jeff before and know his talent for relating and timing the tale.

Interesting story, but the language struck me as if English was not this author's first language, or that maybe a bright child wrote it. I only finished it so I could read phrases to my husband for the laughs - many of the descriptive passages were hilarious. I was very disappointed after seeing all of the positive reviews. To each his own, I guess : )

Twisted Vengeance is dark – and gritty – and scary, and not something I would normally read. Credit to Jeff Bennington for infusing the perfect complement of introspection and self-reflection. That Bennington could explore the human condition within this captivating thriller is proof of his writing talent. Jeff Bennington is an author to watch.

This was an excellent book! The supernatural elements were thrilling and the plot kept me guessing. The characters are developed very well and you genuninely care what is going to happen to them. It is a haunting read, very hard to put down!
Lea Barrymire
Paranormal suspense at its best! I couldn't put this book down until I finished it. Very well crafted paranormal/ investigation story. Every time I thought I had it all figured out another character twist would be introduced.
Sharon Cataldo
For a free book, I should not be complaining! It was entertaining enough, a fairly complex plot with a couple of twists, though I felt they lacked the element of surprise that could have taken this book to the next level.
Karen Frayne
Not so much. It has moments but not enough for me to love it. For whatever reason, I figured it out at the beginning so it was tough to hang in there. Not exactly light reading but if you don't have anything else to do, it will suffice.
Ed Scott
Great book if you are into supernatural mysteries. Smooth plot that keeps you reading until the very end. Plot twist at the end left me reeling, but in a perhaps good way.
