Fancy Nancy pirouettes into middle-grade territory with the launch of a mystery series that has her emulating another famous Nancy—Nancy Drew. The stylish sleuth assumes the role with élan, dressed for the job in a pink trench coat and sunglasses, carrying a rhinestone-studded magnifying glass. Initially frustrated by the lack...more

We have read so many Fancy Nancy books that our girls have become quite familiar with the characters and they feel like old friends to us. So I was quite pleased to see this chapter book featuring slightly older versions of the characters. Just when our girls were starting to outgrow the series, Nancy and Bree grew along with them. Hooray! (I must admit, however, that I do hope that Pinkalicious remains in her little kid niche - I really don't want to revisit with her again!)

Slightly off-topic...more

Fancy Nancy of picture book-fame makes her transition into, well, transitional chapter books in this mystery-lite read. For whatever reason, Nancy (notice she's dropped the "Fancy" at the beginning of her name) has become an amateur detective. Is this an organic progression character-wise? I have no idea as I'm not too familiar with her earlier adventures. At least she's held onto her fanciness in her wardrobe and vocabulary, investigating two mysteries, one involving a missing marble, the other...more

From the back of the book:

Nancy Clancy has everything she needs to be a super sleuth (that's a fancy word for detective): She has a glamorous magnifying glass complete with rhinestones, a totally professional pink trench coat, and a sleuthing partner with awesome code-breaking skills -- her best friend, Bree.

Now all she needs is a good mystery to solve. But when crime strikes right in the middle of her classroom, will Nancy have what it takes to crack the case?

Fancy Nancy is back! Only this tim...more

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Nancy Clancy: Super Sleuth Book One, which I finished in about thirty minutes. It was a swift read, where Jane O' Connor leads me into the world of Fancy Nancy's adventures as an aspiring detective. I admit, I am not much of a children's book read anymore. I remember loving the Junie B. Jones series as a child and Nancy echoed some of Junie's quirks, in the best possible way. Fancy Nancy has her brand of brimming curiosity and vigor, trailing her where...more

Fancy Nancy who has been so popular with little girls, is growing up and now appears in her first chapter book for ages (7-10).

Fancy Nancy Super Sleuth, features Nancy and her best friend Bree. Both girls love Nancy Drew books, and have learned a thing of two from them. When her teachers favorite blue marble disappears Nancy, dressed in a pink trench coat and sunglasses is on the case. She and Bree turn the tree house into a detective agency, and are determined to solve the mystery of of missing...more

What a sweet book! I wish that this had been around when I was the target age. Despite the easy reading level, the prose was rich and engaging, and the occasional black and white illustrations were cute and detailed. The content of the story and character interactions were realistic, and I appreciated the sweet portrayal of family. With so many books trying to reflect reality with fractured, broken families, it was a nice change to have a loving, two parent household presented as a healthy norm....more

Well, Fancy Nancy is growing up and decidedly so as she's dropped the "Fancy" from her name and is now in her very own chapter book series. Nancy Clancy, Super Sleuth, follows Nancy and her best friend Bree as they start their own detective agency (Partners in Crimefighting). They turn Nancy's fort into their headquarters, write in secret code, and wear splendid trench coats - the only thing they're missing is a mystery. But then something goes missing from their classroom and Nancy and Bree sta...more

Move over Nancy Drew...Nancy Clancy is on the case! With her stylish pink trench coat, bejeweled magnifying glass and an arsenal of vocabulary words, she will solve any mystery that comes her way. Nancy and her BFF, Bree, are spending a considerable amount of time snooping around trying to find a mystery. Any mystery will do, they just want to practice their sleuthing skills. Their teacher, Mr. Dudeny, has assigned a superb writing assignment which might lead to a mystery for the girls. Having a...more

This is a fun book for probably girls 2nd grade and up. Nancy and her best friend Bree try to find, and then solve, mysteries. They have read some Nancy Drew books, made cards for their detective agency, and Nancy even has a pink trench coat to wear. So what's going on that their friends Wanda and Rhonda don't want Nancy to discover? And what happened to their teacher's blue marble?

This is a chapter book, not a picture book, and the text is interrupted by well done drawings every few pages. I wo...more

I've read almost all of the Fancy Nancy books with my niece and we have both loved them.

So imagine her surprise when she saw that Nancy Clancy had her first chapter book. She was thrilled. She is almost 7 and she devoured it. Then we read it together.

I think it is a wonderful idea for Jane O'Connor to have Nancy grow up a bit. And it's wonderful that her readers can get longer books, especially as they get older.

My niece also loves the Nancy Drew clue crew. So she was happy that this book was ab...more

Nancy is all set to be a detective. She has a pink trench coat (the kind of raincoat detectives wear), special Sleuth Headquarters, and the perfect partner in her best friend Bree. All she needs is a little crime. At first it seems like crime never happens in her quiet suburb, but soon she's confronted with the mystery of her neighbor's strange behavior as well as the case of her teacher's missing memento at school! Nancy is convinced that she can solve both mysteries with the help of detective...more

I've only been peripherally aware of the whole Fancy Nancy craze (you can't help but be in a bookstore that has a children's section)--I don't have children or friends with children of the target age for those books. But when I heard that there was a new series starting with a slightly older Nancy, I decided to give it a try.

In "Nancy Clancy Super Sleuth", the very precocious Nancy and her good friend Bree are very, very much inspired by the updated Nancy Drew series, and have turned their club...more

Move Over, Nancy Drew! There’s a new girl detective in town. As readers know from Jane O’Connor’s Fancy Nancy picture book series, Nancy Clancy likes to live her life just a little bit fancier than most other people. She is now also the star of her first chapter book for young readers! In Nancy Clancy, Super Sleuth, Nancy is taking on a new challenge and becoming a sleuth, which she explains is a fancy word for detective. To get into her detective persona, she dons a pink trench coat and carries...more

Nancy and her best friend Bree are on the job. Or, they would be if they had any cases. When Nancy discovers they have a whopper of a case (that means really big), she gets out her jeweled magnifying glass, pink trench-coat and fancy, spying, floppy hat. Nancy uses hero Nancy Drew as inspiration and looks for clues as to who took Mr. D’s fancy m...more

Nancy Clancy loves her teacher Mr. Dudeny and his assignment to bring to class a memento and a paragraph describing it. Since Nancy has been reading the Nancy Drew mysteries, she and her best friend Bree decide to solve the case when their teacher's marble goes missing. The mystery is not too challenging since hints are dropped all along the way, but since Nancy solves it, she and her partner are ready for future cases. Fans of the Fancy Nancy picture books will enjoy this first chapter book fea...more

Picked this up at OLA Superconference. This book will be released in late April and is the next step for all those kids who loved Fancy Nancy. She's got a bit older and is having some adventures at school. She loves Nancy Drew and wants to prove her detective skills, but lacks a mystery. That wish leads to more than one mystery and she finds that listening, observing, and using her powers of deduction go a long way. Her partner in sleuthing is her best friend Bree, and she plays a great older si...more

Decked out in trench coats, sunglasses, and floppy hats Nancy and her best friend, Bree, are ready to solve crimes. They even have headquarters, business cards and a name, Partners in Crime Fighting. The trouble is there is nothing to investigate, until a personal treasure goes missing from Nancy’s classroom and brown finger prints mysteriously show up on Nancy’s favorite Nancy Drew book. Nancy and Bree suddenly have lots to investigate. This fast passed mystery with a few morals and great vocab...more

I've never read any of the Fancy Nancy picture books, but I do know they're popular and have recommended them because they tend to go so fast at the library. I think it's great that now there are chapter books for those who really enjoyed the picture books but want to read something a bit longer. Nancy is an endearing little girl with a love of big words. I really like how Nancy explains the big words she uses. In one instance, she says pondered and describes it as a fancy word for thinking. :-)...more

Having been a Fancy Nancy fan for years I was super excited to see that there was a Fancy Nancy Chapter Book. Miss. Nancy is a bit older now and the fancy vocabulary is still something she strives to add in her everyday conversations. The only thing I didn't love about this book was the loss of Nancy's more innocent ways, like always seeing the best in everyone's personality. Example: The neighbor girl is acting strange and Nancy overhears something that doesn't make since. Right away Nancy jump...more

Nancy idolizes Nancy Drew and wants to solve cases just like her favorite heroine, but what do you do when there's no mysteries to solve? Nancy and Bree soon have not 1 but 2 mysteries to solve: the case of the twins and the case of the missing blue marble. Nancy's first chapter book is full of fancy words and secret messages to decode. Illustrations and short chapters make this a title with appeal for newly independent readers. I missed the color from the illustrations in the Fancy Nancy pictur...more

While not quite the same I remember my excitement when a chapter book series I read in my early reader days published their first college book. The series was growing with me and I was ecstatic. Now for readers, having spent their earlier years with Fancy Nancy picture books and then I Can Read! early readers, look and see! Fancy Nancy is growing with you into her very own chapter book! Jump into Nancy Clancy: Super Sleuth Book #1 and see if you can discover the mystery.

I really love this book because Nancy and Bree solve not one but TWO mysteries. " It was creepy somebody in our class was a thief. " says Bree. (page 123) Their business, Partners in Crime Fighting. Really they don't get calls, they just find their own mysteries. This book made me want to be a detective, as it did with my friend Lillian. I and Lillian will start OUR detective work when we start second grade. This book would probably be good for first, second, third and maybe fourth graders.

I read this to my 6 year old little sister (who is a massive Fancy Nancy fan) over a couple of days. We both loved it! I thought it was perfect for it's focus group, who would have discovered Nancy around 3 and will just be entering Kindergarten now.
My sister progressed through the mystery with enthusasim. She got some of the questions figured out, some not. Characterization was as adorable as ever and it was fun for me to get more of a glimpse into Nancy's world. My sister was esp...more

This book is IVY and BEAN meets Nancy Drew with the ever so important Fancy Nancy flair! This book is Fancy Nancy now in 3rd Grade. She is still fancy, still uses fancy words, but she is interested in being a detective like Nancy Drew. (might be the Nancy name) This is an excellent early reader chapter book that girls will love! And... I will say it...I love Ivy and Bean...I have read the first three books but I think I liked the first book of Nancy Clancy super Sleuth better!

After finishing this book last night, Didi (my 5 year old daughter) announced " I think I'll be a detective when I grow up". And then she added, "And a singer".

My daughter has a Fancy Nancyesque personality, she's exuberant, enthusiastic, and loves getting dressed up as flashy as possible. She also adores all the Fancy Nancy books.

This was our first non-picture Fancy Nancy book, and Didi enjoyed it. She loved speculating as to whom was guilty party in the mysteries, and following the clues leadi...more

I saw this and I was like, "whaaaaaaa?!?! Fancy Nancy, one of my favorite kids' book characters has a CHAPTER book now? Gotta read it."

It was superb. Splendid. Spectacular. All the fanciest words that mean super awesome that you could think of.

Even though I couldn't relate to Nancy's integrity, her confidence, or her superior skills of forgiveness, I loved it.

The cover says that this is book number one, so I can't wait for number 2, and 3 and 4...

Nancy Clancy and her friend Bree want to become detectives when they are older. When their teacher's special marble goes missing, it is up to Nancy and Bree to find it. After a few days, some false accusations, hard work and some apologies, the culprit is found and the case is closed.
I really liked this book because I adore Fancy Nancy, and this is the first Nancy Clancy chapter book for older girls! Not to mention this is a mystery book, and I love mysteries!

A cute beginning chapter books. Will keep fans of the picture books and the readers going with Fancy Nancy. It is both a good thing and a slight hindrance that there isn't a lot of background about Nancy in the book. For example she uses lots of "fancy" words which I think is good because you are introducing readers to a larger vocabulary but it can be kind of confusing because it is never explained that Nancy likes thing "fancy".
Sonja Isaacson
Nancy is a little bit older, in Mr. Dudeny's class, and is in a chapter book.

The 6yo really enjoyed this book. I liked that there was more than one mystery happening for Nancy and Bree to attempt to solve. The 4yo was bored and kept running off.

I think Nancy continues to be an engaging character and there are still are still many illustrations by Robin Preiss Glasser. We are awaiting on the request list at the library for the next book to become available.

Since the publication of Fancy Nancy, Jane O'Connor's closet now boasts so many boas, tiaras, and sparkly ensembles that sometimes friends do not recognize her on the street. She still resides (that's a fancy word for lives) in New York City with her family and their canine companion, Arrow. --from the publisher's website
