The premise of this new series is a good one. An owner of a gourmet controlled calorie catering company, Gigi Fitzgerald is new to Woodstone, CT. She moved there upon recommendation by her best friend, Sienna, who owns a book store, The Book Nook.
Gigi loves her little cottage she lives/cooks in. She loves her clients, well almost all of them, and she has large dreams for the future. Until...

This was the first in a new series, and I thought that it was an entertaining read. The mystery was a tough one to solve, and there were plenty of suspects to choose from. Gigi is a fun character, although I would have liked a bit more on her background, and the supporting cast has an interesting mix of people. Overall, I though that it was an enjoyable read.
Super cute mystery with some lovely recipes shared at the end of the mystery. Food throughout as the main character, Gigi, is the owner of Gigi's Gourmet De-Lite. Gigi creates low calorie, but definitely delicious sounding, meals to her dieting clients.
One of her clients dies after eating one of Gigi's meals and Gigi knows it's sabotage since the death was due to a known peanut allergy.

I was delighted and surprised when I found Allergic to Death in my mail, because I just love a good mystery. The story, the first in a series, is centered around Gigi Fitzgerald, who has started a new business in Woodstone, CT after a divorce. Gigi delivers low-cal home cooked meals to her clients. After delivering a meal to one of her newer clients, her client drops dead from an allergic reaction to peanuts! When the police decide there was no foul play involved, Gigi decides to investigate to...more
Very cute opening to a new series. I liked the fact that even though it was a series about a health conscious caterer/chef, you aren’t lectured about diet or exercise. It flows as a natural part of the story. This was a very quick read with red herrings and misdirection to drive the mystery. I enjoyed it and I will read more in the series. I will say that there is not as much humor in this book as one usually finds in modern theme based cozies, there was more emphasis on setting, character build...more
The idea of this first cozy by Peg Cochran is very practical and timely. Gigi runs a delectable gourmet diet food catering business where she prepares delicious whole fresh foods for her clients every meal. Unfortunately, someone used her delivery service to manage to murder one of her clients. Even though the death is deemed 'accidental', death of a customer is never a selling point for this type of service. The only reasonable thing GIgi feels she can do, is find out for herself what really ha...more
Gigi Fitzgerald has left a disastrous marriage and left The Big Apple and moved to Woodstone, CT. In this little idyllic little community she starts Gigi Gourmet De-Lite, where she prepares three meals a day for the calorie-conscious customers.

Not a bad first outing or first book in a series. Not great though either. I suffered through an immediate introduction in the first chapter of almost all the suspects, which made the first third of the book a bit of a bear, trying to remember who was who and keeping them from running together in my head. There was a bit - not a lot - of calorie counting that felt a bit unhealthy to me. Obviously, calorie counting is part of the protagonists job, but a few times when not doing her job, it's ment...more
This was a fun mystery. I liked the main character. She is a small business owner who makes meals and delivers them to the folks in her small town. Lots of food references, so have a snack ready when you read this one! I will even try a couple of recipes included in the back of the book! The ending was a little far fetched for me, but I am still looking to read more in the series!
Gigi is a really cool character.
She has some great friends and a business that she can be proud of.
She helps people get healthier and feel better about themselves.
I really hope that Gigi and Mertz have the opportunity to get to know eachother better, I think that they could be a really great couple if they take the time to give it a chance.
I am really glad that everything worked out in the end.

I picked this book up right after reading Murder Unmentionable by Meg London, because Allergic to Death is actually written by the same author (under a different name), and I had really enjoyed Murder Unmentionable. I found that I really loved this book too! The setting is a small upscale town in CT, and the main character is always cooking since she owns a healthy meal delivery service. Along the way she adopts a Westie named Reg, whom I loved, and there are two very different and interesting l...more
Gigi is one of the dumbest sleuths around. Seriously stupid. The author has a pseudonym under Meg London and both books were pretty bad. Neither were edited well. The characters were ok but the ones in Woodstone particularly one dimensional. At least detective Mertz wasn't an ass like some of the other small town detectives. There are better cozy mysteries out there with better writing and characters.
