Qwillia Rain's "In a Lover's Silence" provides a suspense-filled erotic tale that follows the hunt for a deranged serial killer that brings Deputy U.S. Marshal Seth Vassar to Alaska and into the life of unconventional Wynne Smith. Wynne's penchant for analyzing details allows her to uncover a pattern of behavior in a suspected murderer and her conscience refuses to allow her to succumb to the pressures of her supervisors but instead leads her to contact the local authorities with her findings. I love a good suspense book, one that leaves me guessing who did it all the way to the end and this really fit the bill for it. The plot is extremely well balanced even while going from the past to the future it was all seamlessly blended together. The villain is really dark and a serious creeper but the author once again did an amazing job of balancing, just when it would become too much the author would throw in a nice dish of steam. Oh and...more

This is the second book set in Alaska I've read this year, and as a hot weathered southerner, through and through, I'm dumbfounded at the comfort these characters have in the frozen north. It makes me rethink my assumption that I'd be miserable. Anyhoo ... I really enjoyed the storyline, but wish Wynne wasn't such a hardass when it came to opening herself up to the possibility of love. I understand a little healthy caution and protecting your heart, but she was a little annoying at times (like w...more

THIS WAS A VERY GOOD BOOK, HAS A KILLER COVER, GREAT STORYLINE. I LOVED THE CHARACTERS THE BAD ONE GAVE ME THE CREEPS. THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAD WAS WYNN SHE WAS SO HARD HEADED, CAUSED HERSELF AND OTHERS TROUBLE. SHE WAS SUCH A SMART WOMAN IN SO MANY WAYS BUT DUMB AS A POST IN OTHERS. GEEZ! SHE HAD ME WANTING TO SHAKE HER. ALL IN ALL THANK GOODNESS FOR HER SETH AN ALPHA MALE, WHICH IS THE TYPE OF MALE SHE NEEDS. WYNN AND A WEAK MAN WOULD BE A DISASTER, SHE WOULD RUN ALL OVER HIM. THATS WHY SHE WAS...more

Being that I live in Anchorage, Alaska, I had to read this book as soon as I saw it was set in my hometown. Qwilla Rain did a phenomenal job in describing Anchorage and the only other city close by, Eagle River. Right down to street names and the mention of our famous bar, Chilkoot Charlie’s, Qwilla gives readers an incredible tour of our splendid city. At times I almost forgot that I was reading a work of fiction and not an actual case taking place in Anchorage.

In a Lover’s Silence, we follow W...more

In a few words…

The Good: Tension, amusing.

The Bad: Heroine (everything about her), contrived, predictable, repetitive, plot holes, author intrusion, juvenile, disjointed, sex scenes (dull), character development (lacking).

This story was sooo unbelievably contrived that it seems an utter joke at times. Even doing my best to suspend disbelief I constantly struggled reading it. But like a train wreck, this book had a "rubber neck" effect. I couldn't not read it. I was defeated at 70% though and fin...more

Ebook freebie by a new-to-me-author, Qwilla Rain. Very well-balanced blend of steamy romance and edgy suspense -- just like I like it! A dark and demented villain topped the charts. A strong-willed and maybe sometimes a little too TSTL heroine and a hero U.S. Marshal that was strong and hot kept me on the edge of my seat. Really enjoyed the total package. Will definitely be watching for other books by this author. Recommend without reservation to romantic suspense lovers!

I loved the characters! Honestly, the suspense was so strong in this story that I was a bit surprised at just how well done these characters were. The chemistry was viable, the description and history made them so real. I truly hated to leave them when the story ended. My only complaint is how stupid Wynne could be but again, I can’t help but actually like that. It added a third dimension but beware that it will have you yelling at your book just as you yell in a horror movie at the idiot charac...more

If you're you're looking for a romantic suspense with a nice balance of steamy romance, disturbing suspense and cop thriller, then this book is for you.

The Hero was tall, dark, handsome and a US Marshall...so far so good!
The heroine was a little too "Nancy Drew" for me and I honestly wanted to say "seriously?" a few times but I do tend to be harder on the leading ladies.

All in all a good romantic suspense. I think I'm going to check out Q.R's other works!

This was a fantastic book! Qwilla Rain did a wonderful job of keeping me on the edge of my seat. She had just the right amount of suspense and mystery with the romance. The two main characters were completely lovable and had me rooting for them from the beginning. The female had the right amount of strength and vulnerability to make her a real person.

I'm looking forward to reading more books by Qwilla Rain!

This was one of the best romantic suspense books I've read in quite a while. The ratio of suspense story to romance (and love scenes) was just right for me and the plot as good enough that I felt immersed in it. The heroine does have some tstl moments but I liked that she recognized what she'd done wrong and stopped doing it. Seth, the hero, was wonderfully protective and sexy. This book will be a keeper for me.

Adored this change of pace for writer Qwillia Rain. Mystery, wrapped around the delights of Alaska, wrapped around lovers that find each other.

good - entertaining & hot at times. somewhat predictable but entertaining nonetheless.

I've found me a new favorite author! I'll definitely be reading more of Ms. Rain. I had some definitely cringe-worthy moments while reading some of the more graphic descriptions in this novel, they were necessary to the story and plot and not gratuitous at all. This was a great read full of very well-developed characters containing mystery, a strong, smart female character with a sexy, HOT lawman (from Texas, of course!) ~ I wanted to read this one non-stop. And Ms. Rain must have taken lessons...more

This was a fast paced RS. Easy to get into and a smooth writing style. This was an easy read that kept my attention. The creepier the killer the better. I really liked the dominating US Marshal Vassar and the know it all Wynne who used to be a bill collector. These two are so steamy together.
