Captivated (The Donovan Legacy #1)

His interest in her was purely professional . . . Or so he told himself. Nash Kirkland had sought out the alluring Morgana Donovan to help him research his latest screenplay, though the hardheaded skeptic didn't believe for a minute she was what she professed to be. But, as Morgana revealed herself to him, Nash found himself falling under her bewitching spell. Nash had nev...more

Sometimes, you just have to pick up an old Nora Roberts book, sit back, and relax, and enjoy the story. Don’t think too much, just read and dream away. The Donovans series is one of my favourite series by Nora Roberts, and this is the first time I have read it in English.
Nash Kirkland is a screenplay writer, who likes the paranormal and horror in his movies, but he doesn’t believe in it, at all. For his next movie, he wants to investigate witchcraft, and witches, so he seeks out the local witch...more

I love writer characters and Nash is one of my favorite story tellers. It's nice being inside his head, seeing things the way he sees them. Cynic heroes are another favorite of mine. But with Nash's level of cynicism it can't be cured just by a normal woman. And Morgana Donovan is not a normal woman that's why she's a perfect match for him.

Captivated by Nora Roberts is the first book in the Donovan trilogy. This one is short and sweet. Morgana is a witch, natural born. Nash makes movies about the paranormal, and wants to interview the local legend- a witch. So, Morgana agrees to give him some insight. Nash doesn't believe Morgana is REALLY a witch. He thinks she just capitalized on the legend to boost sales at her shop. Although she tries in vain to convince him she's a witch, he subbornly refuses to believe... until he finds hims...more
Here is a quick summary of the book...
Margana Donovan is a bright, successful witch who owns a small shop called Wicca.
Nash Kirkland is a swanky screen play writer who specializes in all things paranormal. He has his sights set on writing a new award-winner involving witches, so naturally, he turns to the infamous Morgana to aid him in his research.
I like the fact that Nora Roberts wrote Nash as a skeptic. I think it could have added a lot of heat and flare between the characters... but... it...more

Captivated is the first of the Donovan Legacy series by Nora Roberts. Morgana Donovan is one of three cousins born to triplets married to triplets: the Donovan brothers married the Corrigan sisters. All have special gifts: Morgana is a witch and runs a shop called WICA in her hometown, Monterey. Nash Kirkland, a man with a troubled childhood, researches and writes screenplays for movies about the supernatural. He has just moved to Monterey and intends to use Morgana as a source for his next movi...more
Nash Kirkland is a horror movie screenwriter looking to create his next big blockbuster. While researching witches for his next movie, he seeks out rumored witch Morganna Donovan for advice and stories. The problem is... She's a real witch.

The blurb says - “Fascinating and irresistible, the mysterious Donovan cousins share a secret that's been handed down through generations -- a secret that sets them apart from ordinary beings.”
Secret? Yeah right… whoever wrote that hasn’t actually read the book. The MC runs a shop called Wicca and the whole damn town knows she is a witch. In fact, the whole world, that is why Nash Kirkland has come to town; to meet her and pick her life for inspiration for his next scary movie script. Her cousin...more

Unbeknownst to me, this was the first Nora Roberts book I had ever read. I bought it for a 6 hour bus ride to visit a friend away in college back in the 90s. It was also one of the first real romance novels I had ever read, and though I had long since lost the book and forgotten both title and author, it didn't take me long to recognize and remember the story when I started listening to it. I got this in a sale on audible.com and was delighted when I realized it was the same novel I had read all...more
Captivated is the first book in the Donovan Legacy series. I've read this book in the past and enjoyed it, so I thought to give it another chance. After reading it, I remembered why I loved this series (and bought the books)! The story focuses on Morgana, one of three cousins who are witches by birth, and her pursuit of love and happiness. Besides liking the characters themselves, I love Roberts inclusion, and references, to WICCA and withcraft. I think she did a good job of making these element...more

Well, so far I haven't been "Captivated}. Each time I've picked the book up I've fallen asleep!
Morgana (where the hell does Roberts come up with these names?) seems very similar to Mia in Face the Fire. Then again, Roberts does tend to recycle the same characters, just in different settings. If the whole Donovans Series is going to be a regurgitation of the Three Sisters Series just on the west coast this time I'm going to be seriously annoyed.
Update: Okay, it's your typical NR book but I liked...more

Captivated is Morgana's story. Morgana's gift is the gift of magic; she can conjure spells like no other. Magic is her stock in trade as well as she is the owner of the successful shop, Wicca, which caters to folks interested in healing crystals and herbs.

I loved this story! I sometimes forget just how great a writer Nora Roberts is and was caught off guard with this book. The prose is almost lyrical and the characters come to life off the pages. It is truly a magical experience.

I like Nora Roberts for when I need a light, quick read. The stories are interesting and the writing is good (unlike other authors in this genre). This, however, was my least favorite Nora Roberts' book to date. The characters seemed flat and the writing was something I would expect from a Danielle Steel novel. The only part I found enjoyable was the ending that took place in Ireland. I will continue to read the second book in the series because I think Sebastian might make for a more interestin...more
Nash Bridges is a screenwriter researching his next project, a horror film about witchcraft, when he decides to interview Morgana Donovan. Morgana is a hereditary witch who owns and operates a Wicca store in Monterrey, CA. While it is clear that Nash does not believe in witchcraft, Morgana tries to educate him in the ways of witches while they navigate their love for each other.
While Nash was engaging, Morgana was pretentious and annoying. Overall-a boring read.

Nora Roberts has written a series that I'll read over and over again. The Donovan Legacy. Now that they are all on e-book format, makes it even better. I no longer have to worry about breaking my books. They are safe on the shelf and I can read them over and over again on my iPad. The story is out of this world. The characters flawed in just the right ways. You'll be captivated when you read this series and won't want to ever let it go again.

Morgana is a very powerful witch with staggering spell casting abilities. She owns a magical shop called Wicca. She meets a talented screen writer of horror and thriller flicks when he comes into the shop to interview her about "Witches". Nash is very cynical and ends up making Morgana lose her temper and show him just how witches can do things. Pretty funny stuff. great read.
Listened to the audiobook. Found the story to be decent but it being a story where the heroine is a witch, I was expecting some action, maybe some really awesome bad guy but there was none of that. All drama the whole way through. It was good drama but it would have been nice to have a little suspense. Likeable characters and the narrator did a decent job.

Sweet, well written, and entertaining. This was a good love-story, and I'm certainly excited about finishing the Dovanovan series. But, I hate that I'm finding a lot of Nora's books to have not only similar characters, but similar complications as well. But it's worth a read regardless.
Started off so slow and weird that I'd decided to skip the rest of the series. I love a series and that's how turned off I was by the first half of this book. It picked up for me and I enjoyed the second half. Starting on book two now. Hoping there its not quite as much "floating through the air" witch stuff in the subsequent books.
An early novel from Nora Roberts, one of those that I actually enjoy. Morgana Donovan is a witch. Not just someone who practices, but one who has actual elven blood and has powers. Nash Kirkland is a famous screenwriter whose specialty is science fiction and he wants to study Morgana for his newest movie. Can this cynic ever be convinced of true magic and true love?

I'm actually giving this 2.5 stars. I often quite enjoy Nora Roberts' blend of supernatural and romance, but this one didn't do a whole lot for me. I thought the witchcraft side of things was quite subtle and natural but the characters didn't wow me.
