Charmed by His Love - Janet Chapman

This book may be read as a stand-alone, but I really do advise that for your own enjoyment read Spellbound Falls (A Spellbound Falls Romance), it will explain a few things that happen in this book.

Ms Chapman is one of the few authors I can really rely on. I find this amazing as she has more than 17 books in print and I’ve read them all! I have never thought of any of her books as less than 4 stars and almost all of her books are 5 stars in my mind.

(Nov) I wanted to like this book - I think I've read pretty much every book JC has written (and I think I like her non magic books better - but she left them behind a while ago I guess). But this really fell flat for me. Duncan was a great hero - gruff, hot, sexy, etc. Peg on the other hand - blah. She was a bit fanatical about "protecting" her "babies" - and it came off as obnoxious. She was also a bit too proud "I am woman hear me roar." Her 8 year old spoke like a 12 year old. She is on food ...more

I rarely have time these days to write a review that will do a novel I loved this much justice....but here goes my unedited, off the top of my head, on the fly; review of my thoughts.

A mysterious, newly introduced hero. A young, fiercely protective; widowed mother of four. The combined magic of Pine Creek, Midnight Bay, and Spellbound Falls Maine. The return of several beloved previous characters...all together in one novel--makes Charmed by his Love, one of the best this author has written.

I absolutly love Janet Chapman. I waited to start reading this novel because I hate not having a new Janet Chapman novel to be able to be pick up next.

Sweet story about a single mom who thinks she's cursed, and a strong alpha male type who wants to be the man to break that curse all in a small town in Maine.
Bonus we get up dates on some of our favorite characters from other novels

After all the excitement I felt when I got a hold of my copy, I was so disappointed with this tale overall. I liked Duncan, hunky and strong, old-fashioned in a he-man sort of way; I liked Peg (although that whole family curse business was really lame), and I even liked her little heathens even though her four-year-old twins were too verbose to be real, but I went along with it; and I liked all the heart-throbbing, intense members of this magical clan. I even liked the dog! BUT the romance betwe ...more

I'm reading these reviews and trying to figure out if I read the same book???

The heroine would have been called abusive and hot-headed if she was a man.

The hero would have been called stupid and delusional to put up with her and imagining the good qualities that MUST be there even though he doesn't get to see them.

I wrote a whole thing about the minivan and money and the house and pride and how anyone could love someone who is so mean and standoffish without seeing something positive.

Instead, I'

Janet Chapman is one of my favorite romance authors. She hits the mark every time with her hunky, sexy heroes and gutsy sexy heroines. A five star read every time.

A magical tale! Taken from my review at

Peg, the widowed mother of four, owns the local gravel pit. But unfortunately, the recent earthquake flooded it so now she lives on lakefront property. She is strong, feisty, loving and very protective of her children. Although she desperately needs money, she refuses to accept anything that even resembles charity. She was happy when she found a job at her best friend Olivia’s family camp. Not only was the pay good but her children could

This was a vast improvement over the last book. Loved the story. Never a dull moment. The romance had one really hot scene, but there was unmet potential for more.

“Charmed By His Love” by Janet Chapman is part of her ‘A Spellbound Falls Romance’ series and picks up where “Spellbound Falls” left off. Maximus Oceanus has rearranged the geology according to his specifications but there is still plenty that needs to be refined, including having roads and bridges built in the Maine region that is being established as a wilderness resort. He has hired Duncan MacKeage to see that the job gets done but their ties go back much farther than the current project. No ...more

When gruff loner Duncan MacKeage is mistakenly attacked by a small horde of wild children and meets their overprotective widowed mother sparks fly—and some of those sparks are downright angry.

The old adage that strong feelings often equal strong passions applies to this romantic comedy melding with the paranormal, magical realm. As a second novel to Spellbound Falls, it can be read alone. I read this novel first with no confusion and absolutely fell in love with the precocious (and yet at times

Fantastic book. Peg is barely making ends meet while trying to support her 4 kids. Mac sends Duncan to Peg to buy gravel from her for the road he is building to the site of the new resort. After a less than stellar first meeting, Peg and Duncan come to an agreement. Duncan doesn't understand why he is attracted to Peg, but he is. Peg is attracted to him also, but refuses to do anything about it. She feels that getting involved with him would cause his death because of a curse the women in her fa ...more

I loved this story so much! A single mom with 4 kids who thinks she is cursed and a pure blooded, alpha male who swoops in and saves her from herself. Whats not to love?

The characters are so great! I loved Peg so much because of her strong will to survive even when she is under the greatest pressure. She really shows what it is like to be a single mom with children. (My mother is another great example of a woman who keeps going under impossible circumstanc

Peg Thompson has two priorties in her life, raise her 4 kids and to never fall in love again. Her family has a curse that killed all the men her female relatives marry to death by the age of 30, or within a few years of marriage, after having lost one husband, she isn't about to risk someone else. Even Duncan MacKeage, no matter how strong he looks or how attracted she is.

I stuck with it as long as I could, but I could not bring myself to finish this book. Peg was not only a single mom, but she also seemed a bit crazy... and not in a quirky, I-can-sorta-get-it. Kind of way. I know Ms. Chapman meant her to be amusing, but she was an over the top, crazy protective mom who clearly wasn't doing her kids any favors with her over-protectiveness. It was scene after scene of of this behavior from her, that I didn't even want to see what it was about this crazy shrew that ...more

Pros: The hero and heroine, Duncan and Peg, definitely have their own personalities and are different from the other characters in the series. I loved the way the romance built in the beginning, and I especially liked Duncan's relationship with Peg's children and with his own family. I won't spoil it, but there was also a scene where Duncan bought Peg a change of clothes that was hilarious.

Cons: After Peg makes love to Duncan the first time (a marathon), she's sore the next morning, but rather t

I came across Chapman by chance at the library and read one of the Highlander Christmas books. I loved the romance and fantasy mixed together.

In 'Charmbed by His Love' we are brought back to Spellbound Falls with the story of Peg Thompson (widowed mother of four heathens) and Duncan MacKeage (featured in previous Chapman books who comes to the area to build a resort for Mac Oceanus). You know that it is going to be an excellent read when the first encounter between the hero and heroine includes

Now I have to read the others in this series to follow this wonderful group of characters. Duncan and Peg take you through danger, secrets, laughter and magic on their way to finding love. Peg Thompson believes she has already been responsible for the death of one man so she is not about to cause another. Her belief in the family curse leads her to try and deny feeling anything for the mighty Duncan MacKeage. She has four young children to raise, and she's not about to let them, or herself fall for the man.

Normally I love Janet Chapman's books, but I'm not really liking the Spellbound Falls books for some reason. This book was particularly annoying because I listened to it on Audible. How many times can an author use the word growled to describe a way in which a person speaks. After awhile I found myself flinching every time I heard it. I know it's petty but when it's used so many times one does tend to focus on how something is being written instead of what is being read. The story was OK but not ...more

Every book I pick up by Janet Chapman because a favorite and has a happy spot on my keeper shelf. The one I don't loan out.. (shelf-ish of me) --
Charmed By His Love is at the top of the stack of all my best ever books. I started reading when I got home yesterday from work (after 5) and could NOT put it down until I finished it (about 2:30a). Talk about getting sucked in to a story.
Thanks, Janet.
