After a tragic stint in the National Guards, Adam Connelly returns to Idaho and to Belle Haven, the animal shelter he owns with his brothers. All Adam wants is to be alone. Then he opens the door to the past—the woman whose heart he once broke. Still gorgeous, still tough-as-nails, but this time, unusually vulnerable.

Rescue my Heart is the third book in Shalvis' Animal Magnetism series. This installment was yet another wonderfully crafted book with a funny and sweet heroine, hot and delicious alpha hero and a plethora of adorable animals who you can't help but...more

Liked it, didn't LOVE it like I did the first two. I just don't like women who chase after the men. And this heroine wasn't really all that bad but she sure didn't accept that the man she wanted wasn't interested in a relationship. I did get annoyed with Holly telling Adam that she basically knew what he ACTUALLY wanted, regardless of how many times he gently pushes her away. I also really don't like it when a female lead demands to be included in the super dangerous mission that she has no trai...more

An open letter to 90% of Romance Novel Heroines:

Ladies,
If a man is too "tragic" or "damaged" or his childhood was "too difficult to overcome" and you have to BEG him to be with you, he's just not that into you. You are amazing. You're beautiful, but completely unaware of your charms. You have a smoking hot body, yet are able to eat whatever you want and never exercise. You love all children, animals and elderly people. You're smart, witty and utterly charming.

“Want to know what I think?”

“No.”

She added obnoxious to his [Adam] list of faults. “I think beneath that badass layer of testosterone and Neanderthal tendencies, you’re just a big old softie.”

He slid her a patented steely look. “Testosterone and Neanderthal tendencies?”

She shrugged and reached for her water. “If the shoe fits…”

He shook his head, but his eyes might have gleamed with the slightest bit of amusement as he did. “There’s a f

ADAM!!!!!!!! This is my immediate response when anyone mentions Rescue My Heart. I can’t help it—I love him!

Adam Connelly is my favorite kind of hero: wounded. I’m not sure if that makes me some kind of sick, twisted person, but it never fails to grab my heart when a hero is fighting his own demons while pretending he’s in complete control. Adam is ex-military and battles PTSD-triggered anxiety from a mission gone horribly wrong in Afghanistan two years ago...more

The third book in Jill Shalvis' Animal Magnetism series. I have been ill the last few days and I don't know if that may have affected my enjoyment of this addition. Rescue My Heart features the romance of Adam Connelly and Holly Reid. They had a thing going 12 years before but Adam left after a tragic accident. Adam is determined not to open his heart to love. Holly was heart broken when Adam left all those years before and she is doing her best to get on with her life. But Holly needs Adam to h...more

I found this book okay at best. I had high hopes for the story but the author never took it anywhere interesting. The past history between Adam and Holly was dull and silly considering they were both teenagers. Holly's ex-husband was pulled in awkwardly and simply as a plot device. The big search for Holly's dad was dull as can be and simply a way for Holly and Adam to go to bed right away.

Despite all the angst that was suggested in Holly's life, none of it was explored with any depth. Even Adam...more

When I'm looking for a fun, light hearted romance that is full of humour Jill Shalvis is one of my go to authors because I know that's exactly what she'll deliver. Rescue My Heart is a perfect example of that and I enjoyed every minute of Adam and Holly's story. I'm a huge fan of the Lucky Harbor series but I think I might have to say I'm enjoying this one even more, I think it's the cute animals and their crazy antics that add that little extra something but that wouldn't work without the fanta...more

I’ve been a fan of this series since the first book, and as usual, the most intriguing character always gets the last book. The anticipation was high, and unfortunately the book wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be. But it was entertaining, and the hint to a new couple brought me back to the place I was before reading the book: anticipating the next entry.

Adam and Holly used...more

I love Jill Shalvis' books and she is an auto-buy for me. I couldn't wait to read this next book in the Animal series, but I have to say that I was a tad bit disappointed in it. I really can't put my finger on the problem for me, either. The heat between the main characters was there. The story seemed real enough and not unimaginable. The previous characters from the previous books in the series were there too, which is always a good thing. But there was something about Adam and Holly t...more

I love the Lucky Harbor series so was truly surprised at how disappointing this book was. The best part was the dogs and dog training snippets but as for the story, it fell flat.

I didn't care much for the characters or their motivations. The author told the same relationship backstory two or three times from different perspectives for both Adam and Holly, Holly and her Dad, Adams brothers and their partners. It felt like a lot of filler. Anyway, I skipped quite bit after about th...more

Thanks to the publisher, Berkley, and NetGalley for the chance to read this early!

I admit upfront that I am a huge, Jill Shalvis fan…I love her Lucky Harbor series. Then, Lucky me, I discovered this series…I read them out of order – reading Rescue My Heart first, then Animal Magnetism, then Animal Attraction. It didn’t bother that they were out of order (each can be read as standalone), but you don’t want to miss neither Brady nor Dell’s journey.

Ms. Shalvis is well known for her ability to crea...more

If you agree that there's something so very magnetic about a soldier who has faced the worst that humanity can throw at him, with enough humanity left within to want to heal an abused horse… Who also continues to deny his own happiness because he's so broken that he can't possibly expect another human to endure the non-existent love he has to give… Then you're ready for...more

Another solid read from Jill, though I never expect any less.

I went into this cautiously. Animal Magnetism was, I think, my all-time favorite Shalvis book. And after reading 30+ books from her, that's a tall order. There was just something about Brady and Lilah that I clicked with. My expectations when I read Animal Attraction, therefore, were astronomical. And I wasn't wowed by it. I mean, any Jill book is going to be good, and I liked it, but it didn't blow me away. So, when I started...more

Rescue My Heart is the third book in the Animal Magnetism series by Jill Shalvis. As much as I loved the first two books this definitely is my favorite so far. Adam and Holly were a fantastic couple and their journey towards their HEA was charming. Like Dell and Brady in the first two books, Adam had his own demons to conquer and Holly's tender loving care and compassion for Adam's panic attacks really endeared her to me. Having grown up with an overbearing father, Holly had her own issues to wo...more

Rescue My Heart is the third book in Jill Shalvis’ Animal Magnetism series and finally we get to read about Adam. Usually when I read a trilogy there is one couple that is more anticipated than the others and for me and this series it was Adam. Holly and Adam have a past and that makes it even better for me. I love reading two characters that are familiar with each other but have obstacles to get around. And honestly, I love reading Jill Sha...more

A sweet romance but the various plot elements are never completely realized despite their potential.

While Adam is the sexiest and most endearing hero in the series thus far and the portrayal of his PTSD is authentic and believable, his teen romance with Holly is under-developed and his relationship with his mother is lacking background and detail. Moreover, the search for Holly’s father starts out well but ultimately fizzles and the inclusion of her stalkerish ex ends up...more

I really like this series! I love the characters! Jill Shalvis' books always seem to make me feel good - this one certainly did! Adam was so wounded and was just sure that keeping his heart distant was the best way to protect it. Sort of takes all the joy out of life though. Holly loved Adam when she was younger and loved his still - took her awhile to get through her anger with him to get back to that though. Their journey back to each other was wonderful. One of my favorite types of...more

I'm going to go with 4.5 stars on this one. As always, Jill Shalvis has a way with words...

The characters are wonderful! I loved Holly's "go get him" attitude and Adam is just "oh"!!! Amazing book. Couldn't put it down. The only downfall to the entire book was Derek's character - it didn't seem real enough for me. And their relationship seemed odd - for them to have been separated for "years" and divorced, contesting it didn't seem believable. But, it was a great book, very descriptive, very rea...more

Originally posted at The Book NymphoRESCUE MY HEART is a sweet and sexy second chance romance between Adam and Holly.

Adam is the strong and silent type. He went into the army at a young age in order to stay out of jail and now he works with dogs, training them to search and rescue. He also works with his Veterinarian brother, Dell at his animal clinic teaching obedience classes.

As the men of the Animal Magnetism series slowly get grabbed up by their women there are less and less single men in th...more

The last of the Connelly boys, Adam, finds his with Holly Reid. The hero is damaged and a bit of an ass at several points throughout the book. Holly was stubborn but otherwise just about perfect. In fact I really liked her as a heroine. No whiny "woe is me!" self pity here. 3.5 stars but I'll round up this time as I was really happy to read a light fluffy romance this time around.

Although I liked this book I wasn't as invested in Holly and Adam. I'm not sure why I just wasn't. But at any rate this was a good book. Shalvis is a favorite of mine. I love her voice and she manages to make me snicker in every book.

Just sorry that we have to wait until August 2013 for Gruff and Kate's book. I think I might already be in love/lust with Griff...

I was looking forward to reading Adam's story since the first Animal Magnetism book... I enjoy seeing the characters of all the others together in this one as well. Brady, Lilah, Dell and Jade. I love the second chance at love story it makes me smile. Happy that Adam and Holly had the second chance. Looking forward to Griff's story.

I loved Jill Shalvis's Lucky Harbor series and so decided to read this one too and yes I'm loving this series!
Adam and Holly get a wonderful and romantic story. And now I can't wait to read Griffin and Kate's Rumor Has It book!! :)

This is my favorite of the Animal Magnetism series so far. Adam is so special and I love Holly, who holds nothing back. Warm, funny, sexy - what more could you ask for in a romance!

I'm not too chicken," she said. "I know exactly what I want. I honestly thought I could do this with you, the whole friends-with-benefits thing." She slowly shook her head, her eyes suspiciously shiny. "But as it turns out, I can't. Now with you, Adam. With you, I want it all."

"It's not that simple for me," he heard himself say.
"Of course it is. Life is as simple as you make it, Adam. You're born. You live. You die. I don't plan on dying without doing the living part, though.”

“You went from worrying about being weak to wanting a fence with me?"
"I don't give a flying fuck about being weak. You're the only thing I care about. You make me whole. You make me feel. You make me..." He searched for the word. "Everything." He pulled her tighter to him. "It's always been you, Holly. And it always will be. Say yes."
"Yes," she said instantly. "To everything.”
