After a tragic stint in the National Guards, Adam Connelly returns to Idaho and to Belle Haven, the animal shelter he owns with his brothers. All Adam wants is to be alone. Then he opens the door to the past—the woman whose heart he once broke. Still gorgeous, still tough-as-nails, but this time, unusually vulnerable.

4 1/2 Heart-grabbing Stars! An adorable dog, a hot hunky hero, and sexy fun in the great outdoors…it doesn’t get much better than that!!

Adam’s the strong, silent, tortured hero…the kind that I love the best, and oh there was so much to love about him. After serving in Afghanistan and coming home to recuperate after a mission that went bad, he now trains dogs and is a team leader and region coordinator Idaho Search and Rescue. But the memory of what happened while serving in the military still h...more

The third book in Jill Shalvis' Animal Magnetism series. I have been ill the last few days and I don't know if that may have affected my enjoyment of this addition. Rescue My Heart features the romance of Adam Connelly and Holly Reid. They had a thing going 12 years before but Adam left after a tragic accident. Adam is determined not to open his heart to love. Holly was heart broken when Adam left all those years before and she is doing her best to get on with her life. But Holly needs Adam to h...more

The main characters of this book are Holly and Adam. Holly is worried about her father who went hunting in the woods after his girlfriend dumped him. She needs the help of someone with tracking skills and that someone is Adam Connelly, the guy who broke her heart when he went off to the military. After spending time with each other, they realized that the chemistry was still there but it was even bigger than...more

Holly Reid needs help. She asks Adam Connelly, who at the beginning of the book has just returned from a harrowing rescue and has had two days without sleep and nearly that long without food. But Holly's father, a man who Adam respects, has gone hiking and no one has heard from him in three days. He often takes off, but usually not without making contact at least a couple of times or letting someone know where he is.
Being the hero and heroine, Holly and Adam have a complicated past. They had bee...more

It’s so good to be back with the folks at Belle Haven. I’ve had such fun with them since the series started. Jill Shalvis never disappoints when it comes to thoroughly likable characters and great romance to bring them together. And I’m so happy that the series is continuing with another book out in August.

Adam has returned to Belle Haven after tragedy hit his National Guard team. He’s still healing but also helps out as part of local rescue teams and trains rescue dogs. Having just come off a l...more

This was one sexy read! Phew! The heroine is a feisty, I-know-what-I-want kinda gal and Holly was making sure Adam knows his heart is the big prize! Adam don't think he was the right boy for Holly way back when they had the summer of their lives and after years of separation with death, regret and nightmares from his service in the military still haunting him, he still doesn't believe that he's worthy of her love.

Holly's not giving up though. She has all these alpha males in her life. How could...more

I love Jill Shalvis’ contemporary romance novels — they go down smoother than a chocolate martini (chocolate! AND martini! yum!) at a Girl’s Night Out. And Rescue My Heart is no different.

Hunky, broody, Search & Rescue hero who loves animals? Check. Gorgeous, tough, stubborn heroine who watches out for everyone but herself? Check. Overbearing, over-caring friends and family who stick their noses where they don’t belong? Check. Witty dialog and sassy comebacks? Check.

Now that we’ve got the ch...more

I’ve been a fan of this series since the first book, and as usual, the most intriguing character always gets the last book. The anticipation was high, and unfortunately the book wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be. But it was entertaining, and the hint to a new couple brought me back to the place I was before reading the book: anticipating the next entry.

Adam and Holly used...more

I had to run out to Target on release day to get this book. Jill Shalvis is pretty much on my auto-buy list but I tend to buy her books at Target because her publisher is one of the few that does not discount books on Kindle. This is book three in the Animal Magnetism series. This is the story of Adam and Holly. We get some snapshots of them throughout the first two books. Lots of details about Adam (because the other books are his brothers') but not too much detail on Holly besides the fact tha...more

Let me state right up front that I’m a sucker for Jill Shalvis’ brooding, hot, stoic, troubled heroes. I can’t help it, I want to “fix” them even when I know they really don’t need to be fixed, and they just need the right woman. Luckily Jill is great at finding the right woman for them and she really hits it out of the park in Rescue My Heart. Anyone who has read the first two books in the Animal Magnetism series has seen glimpses...more

I was really looking forward to reading Adam and Holly's story since book one because I knew there was more to those two than just glares and arguments. I'm so happy to say their story didn't disappoint and 'Rescue my Heart' is definitely my favorite book from the 'Animal Magnetism' series.

I could feel their chemistry. I felt their history from when they were younger, how much they still knew and loved each other. Every moment they were together was a pleasure to read. They made me laugh, smile,...more

Adam and Holly had one summer together when they were young. But Adam was the proverbial bad boy and knew that he was no good for Holly. He left and joined the army and told Holly not to wait for him. She didn't and a year later, married someone else.
Several years later, Holly is divorced and back home again working at the family business. Adam is back from Afghanistan. He coordinates S & R operations, not able to be a live part of those operations due to his PTSD.
But Holly's father is miss...more

I love Jill Shalvis' books and she is an auto-buy for me. I couldn't wait to read this next book in the Animal series, but I have to say that I was a tad bit disappointed in it. I really can't put my finger on the problem for me, either. The heat between the main characters was there. The story seemed real enough and not unimaginable. The previous characters from the previous books in the series were there too, which is always a good thing. But there was something about Adam and Holly t...more

This is the 3rd in the Animal Magnetism series. We've had to wait for months for each other of these and they have been soooo worth the wait. I adored the first two in this series and Rescue My Heart tops the first two by a smidge or two. In the first two books you get a pieces of Adam. He's a man in control of his life or so it appears. He's capable of a little humor but mostly he's very serious. He's really suffering from PTSD from his time in the military. He's a was on a rescue team on a mis...more

Another solid read from Jill, though I never expect any less.

I went into this cautiously. Animal Magnetism was, I think, my all-time favorite Shalvis book. And after reading 30+ books from her, that's a tall order. There was just something about Brady and Lilah that I clicked with. My expectations when I read Animal Attraction, therefore, were astronomical. And I wasn't wowed by it. I mean, any Jill book is going to be good, and I liked it, but it didn't blow me away. So, when I started...more

I always seem to fall in love with Jill Shalvis's heroes in her books, and this one is no different. And a soldier who loves to help animals in need? That alone is enough to make my steam and need rise to the surface. But, Adam is a suffering hero. He has experienced such trauma in a war-zone that he is now broken and haunted by the events of a rescue gone bad. When Adam returns from war to his hometown to help his brothers run the animal shelter, the last thing he expects to confront is Holly,...more

Rescue My Heart is the third book in the Animal Magnetism series by Jill Shalvis. As much as I loved the first two books this definitely is my favorite so far. Adam and Holly were a fantastic couple and their journey towards their HEA was charming. Like Dell and Brady in the first two books, Adam had his own demons to conquer and Holly's tender loving care and compassion for Adam's panic attacks really endeared me to her. Having grown up with an overbearing father, Holly had her own issues to wo...more

nice story though i was a bit confused with holly's character - the young holly was stubborn, self centered, rebellious. the older holly is still stubborn but instead of self centered she is more understanding. she wants adam and she is going to get him. its one of those rare times when we see the female character seducing the guy instead of the other around. in the end i did like holly because she fought for her love and was strong.

on the other hand i like adam. hard on the outside but a softie...more

This is the first book by Jill Shalvis that I've read. I remember seeing the cheesy covers for the previous books in Animal Magnetism. However, when I first saw this book I didn't connect it to it's siblings with their covers of beefy bare chested men holding Photoshopped animals. I must admit that they did a much nicer job on this cover.

With that out of the way, let me get to the goods. I actually really enjoyed this story. I liked the whole rekindled love and of course the fact that Adam teac...more

Adam and Holly

Full review on Fiction Vixen Book Reviews

Rescue My Heart is the third book in Jill Shalvis’ Animal Magnetism series and finally we get to read about Adam. Usually when I read a trilogy there is one couple that is more anticipated than the others and for me and this series it was Adam. Holly and Adam have a past and that makes it even better for me. I love reading two characters that are familiar with each other but have obstacles to get around. And honestly, I love reading Jill Sha...more

Adam Connelly has PTSD and although has been in therapy for two years he does not believe he is dealing with it well. Two years ago he came home from a mission in Afghanistan and has battled his nightmares ever since. He makes a living teaching and training search and rescue personnel and dogs and is very accredited; however he had not been involved in an active rescue in two years, not since Afghanistan when he and his unit had been called to rescue a group of British soldiers stuck on the side...more

I found this book okay at best. I had high hopes for the story but the author never took it anywhere interesting. The past history between Adam and Holly was dull and silly considering they were both teenagers. Holly's ex-husband was pulled in awkwardly and simply as a plot device. The big search for Holly's dad was dull as can be and simply a way for Holly and Adam to go to bed right away.

Despite all the angst that was suggested in Holly's life, none of it was explored with any depth. Even Adam...more

Jill Shalvis never ever disappoints. Especially with this story of Adam Connelly and Holly Reid.

Shalvis manages to write everything we could ever want in a hero. They are real, flawed, annoying, but kind and genuinely good hearted. They are true and honorable and not to mention, drool-worthy. Needless to say, I swooned, a lot. Adam is delicious. He has a past, who doesn't? And this past gets in the way of his future. Along comes Holly, someone from his past who blasts her way through every wall...more

Thanks to the publisher, Berkley, and NetGalley for the chance to read this early!

I admit upfront that I am a huge, Jill Shalvis fan…I love her Lucky Harbor series. Then, Lucky me, I discovered this series…I read them out of order – reading Rescue My Heart first, then Animal Magnetism, then Animal Attraction. It didn’t bother that they were out of order (each can be read as standalone), but you don’t want to miss neither Brady nor Dell’s journey.

Ms. Shalvis is well known for her ability to crea...more

"I don't give a flying fuck about being weak. You're the only thing I care about. You make me whole. You make me feel. You make me..." He searched for the word. "Everything." He pulled her tighter to him. "It's always been you, Holly. And it always will be. Say yes."

I'm not too chicken," she said. "I know exactly what I want. I honestly thought I could do this with you, the whole friends-with-benefits thing." She slowly shook her head, her eyes suspiciously shiny. "But as it turns out, I can't. Now with you, Adam. With you, I want it all."

"It's not that simple for me," he heard himself say.
"Of course it is. Life is as simple as you make it, Adam. You're born. You live. You die. I don't plan on dying without doing the living part, though.”
