A super cute little story. Very British in language. Friends to lovers story that I really liked. Not a lot of description of people and places. the emphasis was on the character development of the heroine. The love/sex scenes felt fresh and fun. Nice way to spend about a half an hour.

I should have gone with my first impression. The blurb told me that this wasn't my kind of book - if only I'd listened. Damn those Kindle freebies!

The writer's voice didn't work for me (as I suspected would be the case) - it was a bit too 'young'. I liked the idea of the heroine living platonically with a couple of guys, but as it turns out, there were too many characters for such a short story, so the only one you ever got a good sense of was the protagonist. I didn't feel like I knew the first...more

This was a cute short story of a girl who is dumped by her boyfriend only to find out he was no good to start with & her male friend finally gets the courage to go for it. He's liked her for a long time & hadn't had the nerve.

I just love the slang & the English humor. I would definitely read more from this author.

Aw, this was kinda cute. Random thoughts as I was reading:

Haha, these Brits sure talk funny; I love their expressions. This book is pretty good! :)

Hey! There's a pretty hot love scene in it. :P

Oh, friends to lovers, one of my favourite tropes. :D

With a HFN ending - which was ok, 'cause these crazy kids are all of, like, 23 years old. ;D

But the heroine is an insecure, virtually virginal, unaware-of-her-own-beauty wedding cake saleswoman. I'm getting tired of her - she's EVERYWHERE. :|

And why do I...more

This was really really cute. But there was something missing...

This is a really sweet "friends to lovers" trope romance. I love "friends to lovers" so my issue is certainly not the trope. In thinking about this novella, I think my biggest issue is how quickly Linc and Bailey started having sex.

Lucy V. Morgan, Beautiful Mess (No publisher given, 2011)

First off: okay, self-publishers, I've had it. I'm going to start taking pieces of stars off when you don't supply complete information with your releases. I mention this here (since this is one of, oh, ten or fifteen I'll be reviewing in this batch that qualify) because it's my favorite of the Kindle shorts I've read in this batch, and thus points off are going to be most notable here. When a review goes from one star to half a star, who'...more

This was a cute story about a gal(Bailey) who was dumped by her cheating ex (Craig the; and I quote-"Tosspot, wank-bastard nonce captain") ...Is there any other way? Seriously?!!

This gal has two male roommates (Olly & Tom) and one pseudo-male roommate (Linc). Dude is always over. They give her the male version of pep talks after a break up. Not all that good, but entertainingly funny! All except for Linc. Oh did I mention, Bailey works at a Bridal shop baking wedding cakes?! Yuuup! You got...more

After Bailey gets dumped by her long-term ex, her male friends decide to cheer her up the guy way. After getting her stinking drunk on Jaegermeister, they decide it’s about time to dish the dirt on the ex. After pointing out her lack of enthusiasm in her previous sexual experiences, they are all astounded to hear that she has never experienced an orgasm. Now feeling even crappier about her love life, she then has to contend with the sappy in love couples that frequent her wedding cake shop. Her...more

I’m not normally in the market for contemporary erotica, but Lucy V Morgan snagged me on this one with her fresh voice. It’s a free read on Amazon. Go download it now. You’ll devour it in less than a day.

Bailey Frost and her male flatmates and their buddy Linc have a good thing going. Essentially, they treat her as one of the guys and that suits her fine. That’s until her boyfriend Craig dumps her and a cheer-up night of Jagermeister and pizza leads her to confess that she’s never had an orgasm...more

I loved this book, it's a super fast read (and currently a kindle freebie). I related to this book on many levels, one being the aspect of male roomies, it's a dynamic that can only really be touched on by someone who has actually lived with guy friends (without other girls around as buffers).
"Chan was Olly's girlfriend. He called her his Hentai Princess after some weirdo Japanese porn. Tentacles we're involved. Never google it."
Oh yes, the things you find out about boys when you live with the...more

Bailey has always had male friends but after her recent break-up she finds herself wishing for some female company. During a recent pity party she hears her room mates discussing her lack of sex life and after a drink too many she confides in them that she yas yet to experience an orgasm with a partner. To me that's just like issuing a challenge that no male could resist! I would have liked Linc to be a bigger part of the story prior to their relationship starting. I felt like I knew more about...more

Alert! This book is full of swear words and I’m mentioning some of them here so be warned if you are sensitive to bad language.

When I downloaded this free short story I had no idea it was exactly what I needed to cheer me up! I adore this book since my sense of humour leans towards the silly and ridiculous elements found in everyday life. So it’s no surprise that Bailey’s friends, Tom, Linc and Olly, the hilarious, crazy and over protective men are my favourite characters. Especially since they...more

"Our spaces, our lives, were mashed togheter in a shocking, beautiful mess. I didn't remember ever falling in love with Linc; I woke up one morning and I just kind of was."

I won't deny it: I started reading this book because I love British guys, I find them so damn hot and in "Beautiful mess" we have plenty of them. I think the friendship Bailey has with the boys is awesome, because they are funny, sincere, supportive, always telling what's on their mind.

This is short novella is a fun, sweet and sexy little romance sure to entertain you for an hour or so. Bailey Frost is a young 20-something working at a wedding cake shop. She's a sweet girl with a great group of best friends who happen to be guys--Tom and Olly who also happen to be her housemates, and their shy partner in crime, Linc. When Bailey is tragically dumped by a cheating boyfriend, these guys show Bailey nothing but brotherly love and support to help her get over her ex. After a stron...more

Holy crap, I love this book. Found it while browsing aimlessly on Smashwords a week ago, and I've already read it three times.

Wickedly funny and and wildly romantic, PLUS my all-time favorite "friends-to-lovers" plot. *happy sigh*

Unfortunately, I think this is another one where the "erotica" tag (which I am fully in favor of) might distract the smut-shy romance readers. It may be graphic, but THIS IS A ROMANCE. Maybe I'll start a Listopia list....

Short story.

Bailey's boyfriend has broken up with her and she's crying all over the place. Her male roommates are trying to cheer her up along with Linc, their friend who hangs out with them but actually doesn't live in the apartment. Linc invites her over to the house to escape the noises of her roommates' Valentines celebrations and she finds out he's had a crush on her for years. Really cute story.

This short novella style story was cute in its own way. It has funny parts that really had me laughing. It just didn't have a lot of substance to it. But, it wasn't "bad" either.

The first book in the Bailey Boys series. This was a cute little story but way too short. I'd have given it 4 stars if it had not been as short as it was. Bailey's boyfriend of two years breaks up with her and she gets drunk with her men friends and spills the beans about her sex life. I loved the characters - Bailey, Linc, Tom, and Olly. Lots of humor but as I stated before - too short!

Truly enjoyed it. It must be the British sharp wit that keeps me coming back for more. I find their dialog entertaining and hilarious as hale. I finished this book in one sitting and laughed out loud at least a dozen times. Don’t even get me started on the goofy grin I had on my face the entire time. There was some steam factor… yes, but really this book was more about making me laugh and falling in love with the character right from the start. I don’t know how the book caught my attention. What a lovely Freebie on Kindle. :o) This is a nice, short read. Didn't take me but 30 minutes to get through it. This is a friends to lovers type of book, there is a lot of British language which made it fun to read. There is quite a bit of harsh language too, but most of it is British, so.... although I'm reading "twat", that's all I'm reading, instead of reading it as a horrible put down, that it is.... across the big blue pond.

I enjoyed the romance, although for as short as the story was, t...more

-My Thoughts-

Is it just me who found this humorous? If so, well I really am down right of a slow learner. Anyway, it's cute but short. But really cute. It's just something was off, a few misspelled words and grammatical errors. But the whole thought somehow let me think to give it a three. Deserved it anyway.

While reading, with the mention of gays, I suddenly grew my nerves thinking that the guys were really gays, for heaven's sake, even Linc! I don't know why I thought about it by I almost do b...more

I actually really enjoyed just about everything in this free short story. There wasn’t really anything to complain about it. It was written in a way to make you sympathize for the main character right after she got her heart broken.

It begins with poor little Bailey who has just been dumped by her ex-boyfriend. She thought that he was the one and he was going to propose to her but in reality he broke her heart and on top of that was seeing someone else at the same time. Bailey lives with three r...more

There are many self-pubbed books that deserve to be entitled "Mess."

This is NOT one of them.

A very cute short novella about a twenty-something Brit who lives - platonically - with her two best male friends from university. Bailey is a wedding cake designer who just got dumped by her boyfriend. One roommate, Tom, is what appears to be the British equivalent of a medical resident, while the other, Olly, is a fledging YouTube celebrity along with his partner-in-crime Linc.

The plot is thin: Bailey i...more

The story starts with Bailey (the girl) having been dumped by her boyfriend. Her room mates (part of a popular internet parody group) try to cheer her up by having a night in and helping her drink her sorrows away. Their friend Linc shows up and joins the group and it turns into a fun, truth or dare type drinking game. After truths are revealed (including what a crappy lover her ex was) Bailey decides to make changes in her life. While making those c...more

This story of a young woman who has just been dumped by her boyfriend is an entertaining, quick and fun read. The humorous lines come from Bailey's roommates (both male but plutonic friends) and Bailey herself, especially when confronting the ex boyfriend. There is also a secondary plot in which she admits she never orgasmed with a man...more humorous as well. The romance comes when Linc comforts Bailey. Of course this also is the erotic part of the book...a very well written sex scene that is d...more

FUNNY!
Bailey is tom-boyish. Her roommates are even two guys she adores as friends and the feeling is mutual. So when her jerk of a boyfriend dumps her they’re all she has to cry to and guy friends are not the hug & feel sorry type, they just try to get her to admit all his faults & then they point out how they never “overheard” any excitement when he was over. OUCH!

I'm not sure what this title is about -- it makes the story sound angsty, and it's not. It's a breezy first person tale about of how wedding cake decorator Bailey was dumped and then discovered a better guy for her right under her nose, amidst the throng of her male friends.

I liked the deliciously awkward hero (and have no idea where the comparisons to "Twilight" from other reviewers are coming from) but found the general tone kind of off-putting; the characters regularly make gay jokes and call...more

If you like Notting Hill and Love Actually, you'll like this novella -- crammed with allusions to TV shows and memes -- it's frothy and fun. Serious underpinning though, our heroine has never experienced the Big O in bed and after she is dumped by a thoroughly underwhelming BF, her three male roomies have something to say about that. NO, STOP, it's not that kind of book. Put your vivid imagination in park again. Not that there isn't a delightful hero, 'cause there is. Free on kindle, a HFN -- on...more

I absolutely loved this cute little story. Bailey was a snarky little protagonist I could love even in the midst of her breakup from the "nonce fucktard, Craig." I think some reviewers couldn't get into her "voice" because she was British, but I adored that about her! Also, her boys were all wonderful, who kind of put me in the mind of a show here in the states called "The Big Bang Theory." Linc could totally be a hotter version of Leonard. I found myself laughing more often than not at their gr...more
