This is an awesome read from someone who was there and experienced it all. It's not just about music and songs and sex, drugs, and rock and roll... it's a heartfelt memoir, and describes what life was like on the road in the mid 70's and also includes how it affects the personal lives of those on the road. This is unlike any other book about Lynyrd Skynyrd that is out there. This is told from the viewpoint of the tour manager who was responsible for their safety, and in reading it you can tell w ...more
The world of rock and roll is rife with stories that are the stuff of legend. Choose any band from any era, and one will find any number of stories. Now another band has some of its stories told thanks to its former tour manager in a new book titled, Turn it Up! The band in question is one Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Turn it Up! was written by Lynyrd Skynyrd's former tour manager, Ron Eckerman. In his new memoir, Eckerman tells the story of his time with one of rock's most famous, and infamous bands. His boo
Thirty-five years ago to the day of this review's posting, Lynyrd Skynyrd lost its leader and three other family members when the band's private plane crashed in a forest outside McComb, Miss.

This is an era of rock remembrances. Greg Allman and Keith Richard come to mind and one can expect there are

This is one heavy read and is an awesome trip down rock and roll memory lane for ANY music fan, not just Skynyrd fans. You feel like you knew Ronnie Vanzant after reading this. I listened to old CDs over and over while I read this book and there were times I cried and times I laughed out loud. He makes you feel like you're right there with them, even right down to the details of the plane crashing. This dude was right there and lived through it and survived it all, I can't believe he waited this

Ron Eckerman has captured with words the detail and specifics of a photograph or video recording of Lynyrd Skynyrd in the 70's! His untapped knowledge of the music business and life on tour is just fascinating. Ron shows us that there is so much more responsibility then one would think in managing a world touring rock n' roll band. Ronnie Van Zant's passages with Ron are priceless and all the inside information about Skynyrd is worth the read! Music fans do yourself a favor and check this one ou ...more
