I love me some Wrath!

Now this story has a slightly different tone than the other books in this series. But it still held alot of suspense. So I was happy about that. I love the ending to this one as well. Wrath will just capture your heart. Nuff said.

First off let me say, I have really enjoyed this series thus far and so I was eagerly anticipating the release of Wrath (who wouldn't with a cover hottie like that). It's the same formula that the other books in the series has relied on. New Species meets girl. Girl meets New Species. New Species likes girl. Girl likes New Species. Sex ensues. Then the girl gets kidnapped. New Species gets mad and saves her. More sex. Then love. Then we get our happily ever after.

I should probably establish a few things before I really get into the meat of the review here.

First, I'm a big fan of this series. I freely acknowledge that this series is a Guilty Pleasure of mine, because frankly, the writing is pretty bad. Incredibly stilted dialog, ridiculous situations, and of course horrific abuse from caricature villains.

Normally, I enjoy it anyway.

I do suggest reading this series from the beginning if you possibly can, as it makes it easier to follow the character development in Ms. Dohner's creations.

Wrath and the new task force members have set up their first sting operation. The problem? Lauren, a new real-estate agent who was told to show the warehouse her co-worker Brent should have shown, turns up instead and is mistakenly captured by the task force for interrogation.

Wrath is immediately attracted to Lauren but believes it would be best to avoice her for her personal safety. That cannot happen, though, when Wrath inevitably becomes her rescuer and protector. Action and adventure turns into a dramatic love bond that sparks out of control, leaving these two characters not only fighting for their lives, but fighting also to contain the wildfires of love.

Sizzling with lethal dialogue, as well as steamy sex, this truly sweet love story captures your heart and fuels your imagination.

I have enjoyed Wrath's story, as I found myself plunging deeper under the spell that Ms. Dohner has magically woven in her New Species series! The characters are traumatized yet extremely loveable. The Alpha personality we expect from the New Species heroes holds true even in this fable. I continue to find myself relating to characteristics of the female leads, and I tend to get excited about the hints of future romances mentioned in each book regarding secondary characters. With exciting alternate world building presented in these stories, one might find themself totally captivated and charmed.

Although I like this series, this book is my least favorite of the series to date. LD wrote in a secondary character 'Amanda' in this book and she is so horrifically annoying. So nuch so, I think LD might be a male writer as I can't imagine a female writer spending anytime alone in a room with Amanda . . 'shudder'

I must say who wouldnt want a canine - human hotty that looked like this cover. This man makes my toes curl and eyelashes flutter and of course blood pump.

Wrath is Book six in this series, and I have enjoyed every one of them. Lauren has always had a thing for species and upon meeting Wraith he not only makes her legs shake her heart skip a beat and of course the sex just knocks her panties off.

Wrath has been tormented, is a torchered soul and mistreated by humans, and is worried that the forced porn movies he was made to watch while they took his seed will send him crazy affecting his love , lust and shared sex with Lauran but In time she shows him that she is not afraid and that she loves him.

Ive read other reviews regarding this series, and honeslty I enjoy them for what they are. They maybe the same - species meets human - saves them thing but every story has its own tale to tell. Every species has his own thoughts , feelings and qualms.

Besides the sex being smokin hot in this series, I enjoyed this storyline, plot and Found it all flowed smoothly !

Ive read all this series in a week and eagerly await the next book in ten days time ;) lol..

Laurann Dohner has shown consistency with her series, making all her species not only desirable to the females in the stories but also enticing the reader as well ** wink wink ** She has introduced new series, given new names - I must say I really love the names she picks for them all - All unique !!

If you after an erotic read, with sinfully sexy hot men , with libido's in full force then this series is for you !!

Fresh off of a streak of Lora Leigh, and the seriously dark and twisted R.Lee Smith, I realized it had been a while since I could really let my brain go with a book. I needed some lighter fare that would be easier on my psyche. Lucky for me, Wrath had just been released, and I quickly downloaded it to my kindle. And I have to say, it delivered, in every way I expected it to:

*Bad dialogue, awkwardly written conversations, like this little gem:
"I like the name Shadow. *The exact same plotline as in every single New Species story: Heroine is thrown together with Hero, vanilla sex happens, they face his dark personality/emotional issues together. Heroine is kidnapped by Mercile, then rescued by Hero. HEA!

In this case, our heroine is Lauren Henderson, a plucky and plump little real estate agent unknowingly working for some ex-Mercile thugs. A typically shallow girl's lunch between Lauren her BFF Amanda reveals to us some very compelling information that is pertinent to the story: that both women are blonde, Lauren is short, has big boobs, is blue-eyed, and 30 lbs overweight; and Amanda is not short, doesn't have blue eyes or big boobs, and is 60 lbs overweight. And both women have histories of heartbreak in the romance department.

Of our hero? Well he's introduced as "919", a male we met in Brawn, who in a fit of madness, attacked Becca who then was defended by Brawn. Apparentally 919 is a bit calmer these days, and in a name choosing ceremony-of-sorts, he chooses the name Wrath. In the labs, Wrath was force-masturbated by a machine while watching pornographic images of human women. Consequently, he supposedly has lots of rage toward human women and is afraid to engage in sex, believing he couldn't keep control. All of that changes of course, when he meets Lauren. She tempts him the way no other woman has, not that he's had a lot of opportunity to meet other women. After kidnapping her and then saving her from not one, but TWO attempted rapes by the same guy, a fellow new species named Vengeance, the two can't resist the supposed heat that we're informed exists between them. And inspite of having her clothes torn off twice in one evening, and being sexually assaulted to an extent, Lauren can't help but feel horny. I mean, who could blame her right? Just look at that book cover! And her reasoning? A girl like herself could never do better than a guy that looks like Wrath. Wrath's sexual issues ended up being so overblown. The erotic scenes were a let-down, and certain canine "swelling" aspects of his anatomy were a little too reminiscent of other series I've read. There was no real loss of control, no rage, no pain during sex. It was so boring I skimmed.

We're given an obligatory scene where Amanda meets Wrath and drools over him, and blatantly comes on to him sexually, at Lauren's work no less. This scene was so unbelievable I almost stopped reading the book right then. Amanda came across as a desperate and pathetic slut. If Dohner was trying to establish her as a sexually bold modern woman, she could have done so in a much less cheesey and awkward way, and had Amanda maintain some of her dignity. After helping Lauren save Wrath from the ex-Mercile guys, she then meets Flame, and it's heavily foreshadowed that they will be a couple.

Through the kidnapping, we meet new New Species, including 140, a feline New Species whose mate was being held hostage until the big rescue at the end. His mate interestingly enough, is supposed to be a primate type, which I found a little odd. It seems that Laurann Dohner is breaking with tradition in having interspecies matings. It doesn't really make a lot of sense though. And I wonder if they would reproduce? 140 keeps Lauren warm while they are locked up together, which predictably leads to Wrath freaking out over Lauren having another male's scent on her. He scubs the crap out of her body head to toe and immediately scent marks her, since she's pretty much his property, and isn't allowed to even touch other men. It's super romantic and loving. And conveniently enough, Lauren has no real life, since her job no longer exists and her family lives across the country. She has no hobbies or outside interests, and only one friend, so she has no problem giving up everything to be Wrath's woman. They get married at the end. Yay! (hide spoiler)]

All in all, these books are starting to become more of a chore to read, I've decided. I think I still read them because I've read every one in the series so far, so it feels sort of like an obligation now. The storyline is not moving along at all, and each new book plays exactly the same. The dialogue is childish, overly simplistic, and awkward. It stood out a lot in this book, and frankly, makes the New Species look mentally deficient. They all sound child-like and cavemanish when they speak. They have simple minds and simple personalities. I almost find it kind of insulting to men, to be honest. I'll probably read Tiger, but if that too sucks, I'm declaring myself over this series.

The reason I am giving this 3.5 though is because I didnt find their relationship entirely believable. I know this series is not setting out to be believable, and I accept that in all the books the couples get together rather quickly, and Laurann Dohner has to think up more and more scenarios to make that happen. It may not be easy, but this was one of the less believable scenarios. Wrath and Lauren had their one passionate night together, and then their mission the next day, and then that is it before she decides she is in love with him. He is sweet, but that is ridiculous. And Wrath does the same. He is obsessed with her in that way that NS always are, and I have no idea why. Sure, she was brave during their mission, but is there anything else about her that he loves? I have no idea, I dont really get it.

But I still really enjoyed it. It was steamy and cute, and I am so excited to read Tiger next. I now know who all the future books are about besides Obsidian but I read the blurb for it and I know none of these books are about 927. We still dont know his name, so he may never get his own book. I am also wondering if Brass or Flame will ever get their own books. Maybe Flame wont if he stays with Amanda. But what about Brass?! He has been in so many of these books and I really like him. I love Wrath.. and if I were him I would be dealing out much more wrath then he does... but after so much violence in ones live we can only deal with much more...wrath... , he will deal out more wrath though since his job ask him to.. find and rescue those left behind to still be used as test subjects and he is angry and full of wrath against thost who used him and killed his soul every day of his horrible life... a MUST READ..

I read the series NEW SPECIES... I think you would love it... very sci/fi with possibility if 'it could happen' makes you really wonder what these pharmacutical & military departments/companies are doing under out noses..... scary really... i mean they clones stuff.. work with dna every day,.. what else are they doing???

This series is military/government plot with human testing by a pharacutical company so suspenseful. With the criminal use of humans, the company doing these testings have been caught so now they are on the run with the few facilities left 'not found' but now they are kidnapping human women to breed or use with these test subjects who have only known this all their life.. so very sad... to be a number.. like 880 OR 147, maybe 123 'no more than a number' that is all you are.. a number who is tortured, tested on, used physically, mentally and more.. just horrible and maybe POSSIBLE????? YES it could happen.... so that is what makes this scary for me... but the whole series is great.

'For those who have escaped 'thru being rescued by the expsosure of this company only' They now have a life and are still stuck on the land were they live since many want to kill them for WHO they are, or use them again for WHAT they are 'as test subjects' and then they live in fear for WHEN they will be kidnapped again to be used as they were before... living test subjects for sick wicked doctors and scientist. I was hesitant to read this one because quite a few people had rated this low and I guess it just proved that I shouldn't feel influenced by others people's opinion, because I really enjoyed this.

I loved that the heroine was heavier and not stick thin. I loved that both the hero and heroine battled with their own insecurities and I love it because it shows me a vulnerable side of their characters and appeals to me emotionally.

Wrath was rescued from one of the small groups not initially freed from the larger facilities. With his new independence he joins a task force created to find and punish Mercile employees that have eluded capture and rescue any Species that might still be imprisoned. During his captivity he was subjected to tests that left him emotionally scarred when it comes to social interactions. The last thing he wants is a relationship, especially with a human female. WOW!! This a another fasted pace, hard to put down New Species story. Wrath was feature as 919 who we met in Brawn's book, he had been really abuse in the Mercile facility. I started reading the first book in the series, Fury, as a free download on Amazon and, though it looked intriguing, it sat for a while since I always have a huge list of books to read. To prove how awesome I think this series is, I come to the cheating part... I'm writing this review AFTER I've finished all 8 available books in the series. I was fortunate enough to get a very generous Amazon gift card from my hubby for my birthday in September. Good thing, cuz I spent it all on the 'New Species' books. One right after the other... just... bang! bang! bang! The 9th one comes out on October 30th. Good thing the hubby gave me another gift card for Sweetest Day. Hee hee!! Does he love me, or what?

I've even joined the Laurann Dohner group on Goodreads and am contemplating emailing her with some ideas I have for future books. (I hope she doesn't mind.) :o)

The premise of the series, is that a major medical group, Mercile, was experimenting on human babies by injecting them with animal DNA. Their purpose was to develop drugs that would make humans stronger and heal faster. Of course, greed got in the way, and they started to experiment with the 'subjects' for military purposes and other money-making reasons. After all the torture these poor people suffered, proof of these experiments was finally smuggled out and exposed to the public. The public was horrified, especially after finding out that the government had funded a lot of their research, and the facilities were raided, setting the test subjects free. After their release, the government gave them a newly-built military base to live on so they would be sheltered from humans, who they now hate, associating them with pain and captivity.

Calling themselves, New Species, the released victims nominate a leader and began to build lives for themselves. There's a lot of material for story plots; hate groups, prejudice, physical differences, rebellion, betrayal, plus, there is an extensive list of characters, each with their own, unique persona and charm. Some are wilder, as their animal DNA is more prominent, and some are naturally easier-going with more human qualities. The majority are males, but there are a small percentage of females. So far, all of the books center around New Species males pairing with human females, but I'm hopeful for the opposite, as well as a New Species pair. :o)

I admit, I was a little daunted at first. I mean, falling in love with a guy mixed with dog DNA? I don't care how hot the guy is, that is just... Ewwwwww!!! But the stories are just so damn original and good, that it drew me right in. In my mind, I replaced 'dog' with 'wolf' and suddenly, 'canine DNA' didn't seem so gross. LOL!! Why is that? Werewolves are smokin', right?

Now, all the heroes aren't mixed with canine DNA. Some are mixed with feline DNA, such as lions, panthers, leopards, tigers... you get the idea. These guys are seriously fine. If you like your books to have dominant male leads, these are definitely for you. There's even a small populace mixed with primate DNA.

Obviously, if you've made it this far in my review, you've realized that I whole-heartedly recommend these books. I really don't think you'd be disappointed. I defiantly like Wrath. I thought he was another sweet character she created. I knew he was the NS that was found when Brawn was trapped with Becca.I think the Only complaint I have with laurann is that she makes unrealistic choices in how the characters play out. the story line is cool but sometimes i have to skim cause its just too stupid to listen to some of the dialog. Wrath is a good name for 919. The appalling breed program he was forced into with his sperm constantly forced out of him just makes me ill. It's one thing if this was BDSM non con story. It's another thing when these men are treated as animals used just for their stud services. I am glad Wrath was rescued and is now a part of the team to rescue other NSO.

I think Ms Dohner wins hand down as a formulaic writer. As an other reviewer (Laura) said:

It's the same formula that the other books in the series has relied on. New Species meets girl. Girl meets New Species. New Species likes girl. Girl likes New Species. Sex ensues. Then the girl gets kidnapped. New Species gets mad and saves her. More sex. Then love.

Add to this that the characters are absolutely unbelievable and you get the bad reviews.

I generally liked this book, as I liked the rest of the books. But, I am wondering if this series has anything else to offer? We seem to get the same story each time. Good girl is taken (whether she meets our hero before or not). Is almost raped (repeatedly). Good guy finds her. Girl gets kidnapped. Good guy goes after here. Boy and girl falls in love and live happily ever after.

Okay, this book was a little different than the previous books in the series, so I gotta give it props for that. The heroine and her best friend were very likable characters. just GAH! Wrath was amazing. He's fresh out...only recently freed. He volunteers for the Task force. When on a mission, he meets Lauren. He's terrified he'll hurt her, but can't keep his hands off her. And she doesn't want him to. "I will learn to be the best mate." ~ Wrath *swoon*

Another great installment in the New Species series. Fury is still my favorite, but Wrath was a fantastic character. Brought from the previous book (Brawn), he's new to freedom and his inexperience with everything is sweet and endearing. Wrath was one of the newer found males from after the testing facilities were closed down. He used to be known as 919 but he picked the name Wrath when he decided to join the human task force and try to find some of the asshats who worked for Mercile but got away after the labs were raided.

I really wanted to like this book. It started off ok and then once the best friend was introduced it went to heck from there for me. I loved how the heroine wasn't a skinny chick with huge boobs, but was a pretty slightly overweight girl. She was probably normal but not by how women are judged today.
