Elves have mastered four elements that ensure their survival in the harshest of environments; they lie exceptionally well, their preference for the unexpected is constant, they can often hide in plain sight, and if worse comes to worse they can seduce their way into safety. Zyre is no exception as she uses all her magical abilities to escape being stalked by a dangerous de ...more

Recommends it for: lovers of fantastical sci-fi vampire paranormal worlds

“I do whatever and no Mage bothers me with opinions,” says Zyre, a rogue elf. I want to be this character, this eclectically-skilled, detached, self-contained, magically endowed, being who exists by her own rules and has no interest to infiltrate into the lives of others or to allow others to determine her destiny. Instinctual, curious, experimental, and risk-taking for shear amusement… This Elf is a muse unto herself. Katri Cardew has richly developed and appointed a multi-world universe and po ...more

This is the second of Katri Cardew's books I have read, and I have enjoyed both of them. Cardew's books are not light reading they are of a world with great detail and rich characters. If you want to feel like you have journeyed to the world you read of, than this is definitely a book for you.

Anyone who is a vampire fan then this book not only is a good story about Vampires, but it has a twist. It is not the usual story of vampires interacting with humans it is about Elves, Pixies, Vampires, Mag

This is the third amazing novel that I have read from the Vampiris Sancti series.

I utterly love how the author vividly displayed the realm of the magical creatures and their dysfunctional society. Without rules & polices their world didn't become turbulent like it could become if our society were without restrictions, we would certainly run rampant and harmony could not exist under such terms in our world. In the magical realm Elf, Fairy, Pixie, Gnome and Goblin, are creatures of mischief an

Couldn't decide whether this is Fantasy or Romance. What it is is fun - and original. This is the first one I've read in the Vampiris Sancti (Beelzebub! Not more vampires!) series. There are Vampires alright, but they're a pretty stiff crowd. The hot love action is between the Elf and the Demon, and this ain't Wuthering, it's withering. Okay, Katri Cardew is tackling something new in fantasy. A Compendium, an Encyclopaedia (call it what you will) of the Fantastic attached to a tongue-in-cheek tu ...more

I really enjoyed Vampiris Sancti: the elf, which turned out to be a great deal for only 99 cents! The book takes us into a world intermixed with humans, elves, demons, goblins, vampires, and other magical creatures. Zyre, the elf, is a very unique character that gets herself in all kinds of trouble despite her wishes to remain unnoticed. By their own nature, elves are constantly causing mayhem so it isn't too surprising when trouble finds her.The author's portrayal of elves and other magical cre

Review: The story line of this book was really good. The characters were really well described, the ability to define the scenery without going into a "data dump" was really well done too. Zyre (Elfzyre) was definitely a creative character and so were some of the other main leads. In saying that, I did have some issues with the book. The story line was interrupted with inserts about races, locations, etc. It was almost as if there was an encyclopedia entry at the beginning of eac

Though I am eager to read the second of this trilogy, I am not anxious to deal with the long encylcopedia-like/history of... at the beginning of each chapter. Once into the action of the book, it is quite enjoyable. The problem is that every single chapter breaks up the action of the story as the each chapter is broken into 2 parts. The encyclopedia takes up several pages at the beginning of the chapter while the story itself is the second half. It causes a disjointedness to the action that I di ...more

This is probably one of the better fantasy novels I have read in years. This author is a very talented writer who knows how to keep the reader motivated to keep on reading, and knows how to construct a story line that hangs really well together without any annoying lose ends. Although some other readers have reported this novel to be a bit confusing, I did not find this the case as I was keeping track of all the events each character went through.

If your interest is in the fantasy genre, and you

I bought this book due to a recommendation from a friend and I must say that it went far beyond my expectations. I've always loved fantasy books and am usually quite critical to most but there wasn't really anything at all that I didn't think went well in this book and that I would have changed. The backgrounds of all the different races and characters are really original and their interactions and relationships with each other also make for some great scenes. I particularly enjoyed the historie ...more

This tale is in essence a reversal from the normal vampire plots because Zyre transforms from a vampire into the human world(as opposed to the other way around) to spy on Vryn- who she does not want to marry, since it is an arranged(forced) marriage.
But she discovers that Vryn has power in the human world too. There seems to be no escaping him.
Without giving away too much of the plot, let's just say, that there are many twists and unexpected turns in the story.
This is story telling at it's best,
