Love Songs
by
Edie Harris (Goodreads Author)
Audrina Forsythe is the most in-demand flautist in London, and not only because she's fabulously talented; no, she's on everybody's guest list because of the mysterious masked man determined to woo her with his beautiful singing voice. Audrina has never resented anyone the way she does this arrogant crasher…

This book had a lot to love: a smart heroine who was neither TSTL or the dreaded "spunky", a pining hero with some serious groveling to do, and crisp, snappy writing. I found it entertaining and sweet, although I don't think the conflict carried through the length. It reminds me of
, and I think this can appeal to fans of that.
This author has a story in
, which I've started but not finished. I'm looking forward to that story, as I know the writing will be sharp.

I'm a sucker for a great premise, and this one delivered. The hero, who is always overthinking things and getting in his own way, decides he'll win back the woman he *almost* had and lost four years ago by appearing to her in public in masked form, then whipping off his mask and proposing. Needless to say, his grand gesture backfires, and he spends more or less the rest of the book getting himself untangled from the mess he's made. Ms. Harris has a distinctive, almost languid, voice, and it's a...more
This book was a great read. I thoroughly enjoyed the relationship and tension between Audrina and William. Audrina is a woman that readers can relate to. She has flaws, naturally, which is good because so does everyone else. She was charming.
William.... (sigh) Marry me instead. Although the man was completely stupid at times--which man isn't?--this guy redeems himself on multiple occasions, swooping in to the rescue. He might be an "act now, think later" type, but that's a passionate way to liv...more

4.5 really, bc I'm excited to read more by this author and loved that the hero, hopelessly in love, bumbled his way back into the heroines heart. He wasn't perfect, in fact his schemes went generally hopelessly awry. But his heart was in the right place: he thought a grand gesture was the only way he could gain the heroines forgiveness for an immature(very) act their first go around. Alternately he discovers that communicating with her would have been enough from the start but has to repair the...more
I have only recently begun reading romance novels at all, and normally tend to prefer contemporary and/or supernatural, but this book definitely piqued my interest in historicals. I always expected historical romances to be dry (repressed emotions are the Regency/Victorian England life-blood, after all), but there was nothing dry about this. I was completely drawn to the characters and their struggles and emotions throughout the story. It was well paced and engaging, and just generally fun to re...more
I have to admit, I'm a complete sucker for books about men who are hopelessly, unabashedly, embarrassingly in love with women. This is one of those. It's romantic and funny and clever, and I neglected my work all afternoon to finish reading it. Delightful. Just delightful. The hero, William, has the best intentions to woo and win Audrina, but the worst possible methods and results. He is wonderfully hapless -- not at all a figure of ridicule, but certainly self-aware enough to rue the way in whi...more
Wow - a book with all my favorite things in it...music, London, and a dashing man hopelessly in love with a woman! I devoured this book in one sitting, as the plot moves quickly and logically from premise to promise. I loved the fact that the author obviously knew music - as a classical musician myself, there is nothing that irritates me quite as much as non-musicians trying to write about music, which brings me to the second thing I love - London. I wish there had been more context to the story...more
