It's Time to Rewind

The Bonus Scene : This was included after the end of the book - one short scene from Kale's PoV. Apparently, the best was saved for last because this was my favorite part of the book, apart from the wild beginning. I can honestly say that this is the first time I truly got to vibe on Kale and how his mind worked. Watching this one particular scene was priceless. I loved it.

WOW! This book rendered me speechless.

More like a 3.5 stars, Toxic is the long anticipated sequel to one of my favorites books last year; it was good to get reacquainted with Dez and Kale in this fun, emotional sequel. Dez is back to her full glory, and now she has competition; Jade is here to try to teach Kale control, but she's also trying to weasel her way into his heart - or at least his pants. If this wasn't enough, Dez's immunity to Kale's touch is waning.

Dez is back to her full glory, and now she has competition; Jade is here to try to teach Kale control, but she's also trying to weasel her way into his heart - or at least his pants. If this wasn't enough, Dez's immunity to Kale's touch is waning.

With a wedge... or 2, driven between Dez and Kale, there is a lot of tension in this sequel. Dez's worst insecurities being brought to light make her a little jealous, and a lot paranoid. She turns from confident to constantly worried to the point of spying. This is not the stubborn, determined Dez I love! I definitely understand where she's coming from, but the whole situation really grated on my nerves. I hated Jade with such a passion that just her alone definitely put a damper on my enjoyment of this novel. She would always get in the way, or get her way, and it annoyed the hair off of my body! Yes, we are meant to dislike her, but it worked so well on me that I didn't love the book as much as I would have otherwise, and now I look like Britney Spears.

Moving on. Kale and Alex both have good character growth in Toxic. Since I read Untouched - the novella in Kale's perspective - I know how his perplexed mind works, this made me understand his decisions better in this book. I love how he's so innocent, yet incredibly dangerous. We didn't get as many laughs from his clueless ways, however, which I missed from Touch. Since Kale is so busy with ~~jerkface~~ Jade, we get to know Alex a little more, and I have to say I grew to like him a lot better. In Touch he was the guilty pleasure character, the bad boy that you know you shouldn't like but you kind of do anyways. In Toxic, we see layers to his character we hadn't glimpsed at before; his level headedness for example. He has a really strong personality that makes him a great secondary character that balances out the others perfectly.

Even through all the stress and boy troubles, there is still great humor from Dez's sarcastic attitude, new, unique powers that we get to observe, and a hint of what Denazen has up their sleeves. It's a lot more about the characters than the plot itself which makes this sequel a lot less action packed. We do go through a lot of emotional ups and downs, and ultimately get a feel of what the third book will bring with some intriguing developments that come forth.

Touch still remains one of my favourite novels, the easy writing style and a steady pacing continues in Toxic, making it a very fun read regardless my dislike of a certain… person. I'm just going to hope she dies miserably in the third installment. You will do that for me, right Jus? :D

All I can say is that this was SO worth the extra wait. Amazing sequel! Loved every moment. And Kale, so HOT.
Sad ending but major cliffhanger, so can't wait for the next book.
Plus did not guess the traitor, man that was a shock.

-Dez was as great as ever. She was likeable without being a goody two shoes. I love YA heroines that actually want to have good time, that like to drink and party and make out with guys like a normal teenager. It makes a change from the usual never been kissed, naive, boring, prudish YA heroines.
One think that did annoy me about Dez was how easily she forgave Kale after he kissed Jade. I was disappointed that she didn't make him suffer a little, I expected her to tell him where to go especially after Alex had cheated on her. Even though Dez was too forgiving, she's definitely one of my favourite YA heroines.

-I loved Kale in Touch and in his novella but I disliked him in this one. He was so dumb in regard to Jade - touching her, going to parties with her, defending her, being her hero..it came across that he was more in love with Jade then Dez.
Kale treated Dez awfully — he left her at a party when police showed up to save himself and then he also saved Jade but left Dez to die in a burning building. He was such an uncaring idiot. He was all over Jade, he spent all his time with her, he confided in her and worst of all, he kissed her. Even reading his POV about the kiss and his logic that went with it didn't help. He still cheated on Dez and I hate cheating heroes. On top of everything, he then tells Dez how much he likes holding hands with Jade and how much he enjoyed his kiss with Jade..ugh, seriously WTF?! Kale was so great in the last book because he was loyal and sweet and now he's just a cheat. I'm getting annoyed with all the heroes in YA/PNR/UF either being abusers, liars or cheaters — isn't there one decent hero out there?!

-I hated Jade. She was a bitch for no good reason at all. What kind of person throws themselves on someone whose already taken?? She knew Kale loved Dez but for some reason she thought she had the right to interfere in their relationship. She was a desperate loser.

-Dez's dad seriously needs to die. I was actually interested in why he was such a dick in the first book but I don't really care anymore. He's just evil for no apparent reason and wants to control and kill anyone that doesn't follow him. It's hard to find a character engaging when they have no shades of grey.

-Dez's relationship with her mum, Shanna, was weird. They were so awkward and distant around each other. Kale was more Shanna's child than Dez, Kale and Shanna seemed to have a much more loving and sweet relationship than Dez and Shanna. I guess it was realistic that Shanna was closer to Kale than Dez considering she raised Kale and hardly knew Dez. It would have been good to see Dez being uncomfortable about her mum loving Kale more than her though.
It's quite sad that Dez doesn't really have a proper family and parents who love and look after her — her mum's a stranger, her dad's a psycho and her sister's a bitch.
At least Kale has Shanna as a parent, which is good because his grandmother's a bitch. It's frustrating how understanding he is when it comes to Ginger's actions. Kale should tell Ginger to piss off, after everything she's done to him.

This was almost as entertaining as the first book, however the romance and Kale let it down. Kale no longer holds any interest to me, he lost all his appeal and turned into a typical idiotic YA love interest. Dez was as awesome as ever so I'll still be reading the next book.(less)

After awesome first book Touch comes a cool short story Untouched, which i loved (because it was Kale's POV) and then we have the next book in the series Toxic...Today's star is TOXIC!!!!

It was a good book, a light read. I liked 'Touch' better though.
This read was packed with fast-paced action and romance, love-triangles as well, but it kind of became boring through the middle of the story.

The characters developed well- as the relationship between Kale and Dez did- except for Jade, who made my palms itch for a bitchslap every time I read about her. She just kept talking shit about Dez throughout the whole book. She's one mean, whiny bitch. Kill her with fire!

Toxic starts a few weeks after Touch and if you've read the novella - Untouched, then you know the summer wasn't an easy one for Kale or Dez. They did however, come across some new sixes and they've teamed up together. As Dez and Kale try to hide out in the hotel with Ginger, Dez's Mom and a few others but, trouble keeps finding them - which leads them to believe there maybe a traitor amongst them, but who could it be? The new girl; Jade who is helping Kale control his abilities or someone else? As if Dez didn't have enough to worry about, she loses her ability to touch Kale, she's trying to keep Jade's hands off of Kale and also a run in with her father goes wrong, Dez soon finds herself in a world of trouble but most importantly she finds herself fighting for her life.

I was so excited to start Toxic that as soon as I received it, I started it within minutes. I just needed to be back with Dez and Kale and after reading the novella told from Kale's point of view - swoon, I need more of him, and Jus Accardo really doesn't disappoint. Toxic is such a great sequel because it's bursting with emotional, heart-pounding and intense scenes. If you thought Touch was like that, then Toxic is ten times better! The action is better than ever and the details are so vivid and yes, I'll warn you...the cliff-hanger is a killer too.

We get to meet a few new characters as well and they all have interesting and unique gifts that was really exciting to read about. I was interested to see what other gifts Jus would give other characters and it was so much fun to see the results. Now Dez, I really love her. She's fun, sarcastic and stubborn and I love how she's not afraid to say what she thinks. She really has some laugh-out-loud moments during this book and I loved, but then she also has some emotional ones too and boy, were they emotional. Kale is just as great as ever. I love how innocent he is....he doesn't do complicated and everything is pretty simple for him. He's very dangerous but so sweet too. His and Dez's relationship is full of hot chemistry, it's hard not to root for them. You're heart will break for them with the tests they go through but I have faith in their relationship and I know it will work out in the end, no matter how glum it looks right now.

Overall, I absolutely loved Toxic because it's such a heart-pounding, shocking and engaging read and I'm sure any fans of this series won't be disappointed - I wasn't, and I'm counting the day down until January 31st when book three, Tremble is released.

The wonderful thing about this book is that there are so many exciting bits it's so hard to put down. I really engaged with the story and the characters. But man, what a shit ending.

I was pretty sure Alex was unredeemable after the way the first book ended, but he does a lot to make up for it in this one. Of course he still hates Kale with a passion, but he gets Dez out of numerous scrapes. Dez, however continues to be unforgiving.

Wow, well Toxic succeeded in keeping up the good pace Touch set up, and started with a bang. But does it top the first book? In a way yes it does. It has a more dramatic tone mainly because the person who is in some serious shit is our precious narrator, Dez. A singular word that can pretty much sum up exactly how I felt throughout most of Toxic.
Let me explain.

Those last three words? Yeah, that was me imagining smashing her head against the wall a few times. Okay, MORE than a few times.

Lets start by saying both Touch (A Denazen Novel) and Untouched (A Denazen Novella)are great reads, and I was looking forward to the great story continuing in Toxic. And did Toxic start wonderfully, yes. The first 20% of Toxic was brilliant. The opening scene, fantastic, and the building tension and resulting situation of Dez not being able to touch Kale was engaging and intriguing. Of course they introduced a female, Jade, whom could touch Kale. Of course we want to hate her, so brilliant idea....more Lets start by saying both Touch (A Denazen Novel) and Untouched (A Denazen Novella)are great reads, and I was looking forward to the great story continuing in Toxic. And did Toxic start wonderfully, yes. The first 20% of Toxic was brilliant. The opening scene, fantastic, and the building tension and resulting situation of Dez not being able to touch Kale was engaging and intriguing. Of course they introduced a female, Jade, whom could touch Kale. Of course we want to hate her, so brilliant idea. In addition someone from their side is leaking secrets to Dez's father, who can it be? I was thinking this was going to be even better than the first one and the novella.

But sadly that all came to a crushing holt. What happened to the brilliant build up was a repeative and frustrating read. One in which Dez kept a secret from Kale and her feelings from him. What I loved about Dez and Kale in the previous books was, their openess to each toehr, their honesty, thier kick butt attitude, their love for each other, it was all gone, because Dez would not talk about it with Kale. I found it to be repetitive and annoying. Dez would moan about Jesse spending time with Kale, but would not really talk to Kale about it. Dez was continuly thinking should I tell him about my secret or not. YES!! TELL HIM!!!!!! I was yelling at my kindle. (what is it about book two's in series where the h wont tell the H something he can help with? This has been happening in a few). Added to this who is passing on the imformation to the baddies? It was pretty obvious when only two new characters get introduced.

Now for a few spoilers

Obviously Kale eventually finds out, and the book starts to redeem itself, with the build up of will Dez be helped, or will Kale be captured. Will they be able to touch again? What will happen? What happens is an annoying cliff hanger!!!! The whole can Dez touch Kale again is not even answered. Why this could not be answered I do not know, was it not the point of the whole book?????? Sure keep the other cliff hanger, thats fine, and what I expected. But not to answer the whole touch thing. MISTAKE.

Overall I was very disappointed. I felt Dez was changed as a character, I did not like how predictable the baddie was, or how predictable the cliff hanger ending was. But mostly I disliked the bit I talked about in the spoiler part.
Will I be reading the next one in the series? Undecided.
Will I read it again? No

I love this series and both Dez and Kale...but am having a hard time reading this because...I hate Jade and feel so bad for Dez and Kale. It is the mark of a great book when you personally want to step in and help the main characters...

Well this said that I read this in paperback because there is no kindle edition available...but that is not true because I bought the kindle edition and read it.

WOW! 100/100 stars! I totally loved this book and never wanted it to end! and almost cried when it did!this was prob my favorite book so far in the series, I really, really, really loved the first one but this one knocked my socks off! I would go as far as to say it is my favorite book of the year so far!

I must say that the more I read of this series, the more that I like it! Dez just gets better and better in my opinion! This installment is way more unstable, and I think that's why I enjoyed it even more than the first. I felt Dez's confusion and I seriously didn't know who to trust and who to be wary of. AWESOME BOOK>> Toxic was bittersweet for me and for the others... Yep left you hanging at the end but I love the Characters and love, betrayal and the emotions through this book !! Jus Accardo keep you on your toes the whole time !! I couldn't stop till this book was finished and done..lol.. Of course I wanted more and more but it had to come to end...to be continued !!

I'm finding it really difficult to write a review of Toxic, this series is incredibly popular and I seem to be in the minority in the fact that while I like it I haven't been absolutely blown away by it. I think I've had to come to the conclusion that this series just isn't one I'm going to get on with, it seems like the more I read the more irritating I find the characters and the less I enjoy the story. I think I've had to come to the conclusion that this series just isn't one I'm going to get on with, it seems like the more I read the more irritating I find the characters and the less I enjoy the story. Although Touch didn't amaze me I did like some things about it, I wasn't a huge Kale fan because I found him too sweet and innocent for my tastes (I have a thing for the bad boys!) but after reading Untouched which is written from his point of view he really started to grow on me. I liked Dez but found that she could be incredibly naive and trusting and considering all the things she went through I thought she would have been smarter than that.

Unfortunately in Toxic I really felt like someone had given Dez a stupid pill, she spent the majority of the book either burying her head in the sand and pretending that certain things weren't really happening or acting in a completely crazy way without thinking through the consequences. I'm sure she has developed a death wish when it comes to Kale, considering that she is no longer immune to his ability to kill with a single touch she sure spends a lot of time trying to touch him. Seriously, I get that they're horny teenagers but if the choice is serious pain and possible death every time you touch your boyfriend I'd settle for just being able to spend time together and keeping my hands to myself. The way they started avoiding spending time together made me feel that their relationship doesn't have any real emotional connection - it's all about the lust and when that is taken out of the equation it's not worth the effort. It also annoyed me that Dez kept so many secrets from someone that she supposedly loved and I was really angry that neither of them seemed capable of spending more than 10 seconds together without putting her life at risk by trying to kiss.

I already mentioned that I found Kale a bit innocent for my tastes but I had started to like him more after seeing things from his point of view. I have to admit that my feelings towards him while reading Toxic went from apathy to irritation to downright livid though. I can tell you right now that after his actions towards the end of the book if he had been my boyfriend he'd have ended up with a slap in the face and a boot up his backside as I kicked him to the kerb! I know that they tried to explain his actions away by saying it was just his unique way of looking at the world but there is no way he wouldn't have known what he did was wrong. He's unsure of how to act in social situations but he isn't stupid! Well I was lead to believe he wasn't stupid anyway but now I'm not so sure.

I hated the introduction of a completely pointless love triangle with one of the most vile characters I've ever come across. Every time Jade stepped on the page I wanted to poke my own eyes out just so I didn't have to carry on reading about her. I had figured out who the villain was long before the big reveal was made so the surprise lost it's punch completely even though there was a twist that I hadn't seen coming. I do like the authors writing style and I love the idea of the Sixes and their different psychic abilities but I don't think that has been explored to it's full potential. Unfortunately I don't think I can bring myself to read the next book if it means more of the "relationship" between Dez and Kale. I don't like either of them and I honestly couldn't care less if they end up living happily ever after or if they end up killing each other. I feel like this series had such potential and I'm really disappointed with the way things have turned out but like I already said I am in the minority when it comes to these books - loads of people seem to adore them so don't let me put you off Toxic if you're a massive fan of the earlier books.(less)
