The Novel Approach Reviews
This second book in the Desmond and Garrick series feels like it directly picks up after the first one. In fact, they feel as if they could, and should, be combined into one longer novel. Of course, that would put the word count to around 140k words or more, so it would be incredibly long for YA, but I think they would be best combined.

After the events of the first book, Desmond and Garrick are still struggling with the poets running rampant at the Abbey. Desmond is distracted by Mr. Sherbourne

Understated melodrama! I've been thinking about what to write here. I had to say something. This book could have been a disaster. Meaning, the humor could have been very bad, but I laugh to the point of tears with every other page.

It's a tough thing to write this way (funny, melodramatic, tragic all at once!). At least for me it is.

Amazingly funny yet serious read. Just makes me note to encourage my teenager to talk more and me to be more available to listen.

Great job Hayden!

I’ve lived most of my life in the San Francisco Bay Area though I wasn’t born there (or, indeed, the USA). I’m married with no kids and three cats and am a cycling nut.

I started off as a writer of young adult fiction, specializing in contemporary fantasy, historical fantasy, and historical genres. My books ranged from a superhero fantasy series to reworked and original folktales to Victorian ghost
