Romancing the Book

When I cracked open this book, I expected an inspirational story of strife and longing, a change of heart. A book that when I put it down I would say to myself, ‘How incredible.’ And I would walk around for days thinking and mulling over the profound instances that happened between those pages. Instead, I got a story about people I couldn’t identify with and sparks of inspiration buried deep within the...more

While reading this book, I thought to myself that I am only continuing with this series out of obligation. I've been reading the "God..." series since the first book.

I recall the first book being well-written and I felt for the characters. Over time, however, the plots became more ridiculous and this book was no exception. While I realize that no one is perfect, Annette changed so much by the final book that I hardly recognized or respected her character. I found her to be quite silly. Consider...more

I'm sorry to see the end of this series. I have really enjoyed getting to know Annette and Rhoda; PeeWee and Otis. This final chapter is just as shocking as the rest of the series and we delve inside Annette's mixed up life from page one. Although I do have to say that some of Annette's decision are annoying. I found myself wanting to grab the chick and shake her. I mean, when your child tells you that someone's not making you comfortable, you figure out what's up with that person. There are too...more

I read without the apiary knowledge that this was a six part 'God' series. Once I picked it up, it had me intrigued from the start so much I started researching the author. I wanted to know more about her as a person and I'm looking to one day go to a book signing to see her in person.
This is when I believe I learned that this series is part biographical-some portions from her personal journeys in life. I enjoy her old school flair that pops up in the books, the quick tongue lashings and sayings...more

This book starts out very slow. I was about 125 pages into it before it became interesting. I am a fan of Monroe's writing and most of her books but I am glad to see that this series is ending because it is evident she is running out of idea's in this series. However, I did enjoy this book. I liked the epilogue so that we are not left wondering what will happen with these characters. It's been a long journey since I read the first book in the series and I think it ends well. Thank you Ms. Monroe...more

God Don’t Make Mistakes is the final installment in the “God don’t” series by Mary Monroe. The series follows the lifes and adventures of two childhood friends: Annette and Rhoda. These ladies have survived it all from molestation to breast cancer, from prostitution to the death of a child. They make it through these challenges because of their unshakeable friendship. This bond is again tested as the ladies find themselves at odds about the best interest of their daughters.

Seedy, fast-paced and full of drama. Mary Monroe's latest does not disappoint but it seems to be the raunchiest of her books so far. It's been quite a while since I read the first in the "God" series, but Monroe sprinkles enough back story so you get the gist of what happened previously as she weaves one of her most complicated and sordid tales to date. Not sure if I like it, but it's been a while since Monroe's published a book so I was glad to see this series come to an end. However, she faile...more

I would have to agree with the other reviews I've read about this book. Although I love Mary Monroe's writing, I feel that since this was the last of the series it should have held a little more punch. What it tells me is Ms. Monroe was running out of ideas for these characters and pretty much wanted to get something written to close out the series. Although not one of my favoites by this author I still enjoyed it.

WAY too much swearing and negative energy in the first chapter. I did not know it was a series, but will NOT be looking into the first five books. I'm all for real life stories, fiction or not, but I REFUSE to be drawn into such negativity and debaseness. I believe we can learn from other people's lives, mistakes and hardships, but I will not be drawn down into sordidness.

(SPOILERS INSIDE)

The first book in the series was definitely the best. I started losing interest in the story lines around book #3 or #4, but kept reading out of loyalty and curiosity. This was apparently the last book and the saga has ended, which makes me sad. I'm really sad to read how Jade finally turned out. She got worse and worse with every book and was just completely out of control, and a tad unbelievable in this last book.

At any rate, the rest of the story was very good with good less...more

Apparently this is the last book of a series.....I haven't read the 1st ones but will be looking for them now. Mary Monroe makes you look deeper than the surface of life to what's really going on at the core. From just this one book I'll be adding her name to my list of favorite authors.

book was kinda slow, and hesitant on getting to the good part, thought that she should have focused more on charlotte situation instead of the pee-wee marriage thing. Overall I gave it a 3, still love Mary Monroes humor with her characters.

I did enjoy this book. I was disappointed in the characters as well as how it ended. It is sad to see that the series is over but maybe Monroe will start some new characters for another series. Great author.

I really enjoyed this book, even though I only read but one more in the series. The characters were authentic and transparent. This makes me want to go back and trace the personal lineage of each character and how they developed. Although I'm tracing backwards, I look forward to reading the other books in the series. Again, easy, yet emotionally authentic novel.

It started off a little slow but ended up being pretty good. Im glad i borrowed it from one if my nook friends instead of purchasing it myself. Not worth buying it in my opinion.

What another great read in this series of Annette and Rhoda, throughout all of these books they go through somethings but in the end they are true loyal friends.
Nicole Davis
I enjoyed this book. I also read "God don't like ugly" a while back, it was nice 'catch up' with familar characters as well as read about some new ones.

This is my absolute favorite book in this series. There were so many things I never saw coming in this novel. Mary Monroe continues to build her characters up, making them more complex yet providing the reader with a better understanding. I love the way this book ends!

I am glad this book is over. It was the worst out of the series. Parts of the book were redundant and boring. I was able to get through it and glad how everything wrapped up in the end.
Monica
This is one of my fav series. I am said to see it end, but like all good things must come to an end.

Not as good as the other books in the series. Has its moments where it's good but then it also can be boring and drag.
