Books that smack of the occult do not usually attract me, but Connolly's Parker books are an exception. This short one, which I first read in April of 2013, has as a peripheral character The Collector, a recurring figure in the Parker books.
Connolly writes well and tells a compelling tale. Seeing it mis-filed on the shelf earlier tonight, I took it down and before I knew it I was hooked into a second reading, a rare event for me. A rewarding one, too. As entertaining and suspenseful as the first...more

When I read Connolly's first book "Every Dead Thing", I found passages, especially in the first chapter, that were wonderfully written. Unfortunately, in his subsequent work such passages are rare. Generally he writes a step above the rest, but except for the odd sentence or paragraph, does not approach that early promise.
The present book is a limited edition, well worth the reading, involving his main protagonist, Charlie Parker, and his array of friends. Also prominent is the mysterious 'Colle...more
