There's a series of these - Pride and Prejudice, Alice in Wonderland, A Christmas Carol, Dracula - but naturally I had to get Jane Eyre. I'm sorry, what's that? This book is for my baby son? Um, yep. Sure. Yeah, course it is.

The book counts from one through to ten, with 1 being "governess" and 10 being "books", but I use the numbers and the pictures to tell a story - there's not much plot, but I start with "Meet Jane, hello Jane! She's a governess. That's like a teacher." and go from there. The...more

I'm gobsmacked that this series (BabyLit) of books gets such high marks here and on Amazon.

True story. I put all of the series on hold at the library where I work. One day, I was sitting at the reference desk with our children's librarian. We both looked through this volume and a couple of others and decided that, although they were interesting and the art is neat, they weren't successful by the normal criteria of board books. Plainly speaking, they don't seem suitable for the Pre-K audience. In...more

Children love many things, but nothing catches their attention better than something colorful they could play with. And I don't think I need to tell you about the many benefits of play. Every mom out there knows that play increases child's creativity and productivity, makes them happy, and - most importantly - enhances their personal learning and development. And what's a better thing for your child to play with than a beautifully illustrated,...more

Why am I reviewing board books, you might ask? Because I was offered them for review and I had a nephew turning two on the seventh. (I gave them to him on the eighth as Easter presents, however.) I thought the books sounded like great fun and wanted to give them a chance.

Looking over them on my own, I thought they were a great package. The illustrations by Alison Oliver are irresistibly cute and the color palettes are terrific. I liked that LITTLE MISS BRONTE: JANE EYRE had quotations from the t...more

This is the second baby lit board book I have received from Glibb Smith Books and written/illustrated by Jennifer Adams and Alison Oliver. It is also a board book version of one of my favourite books of all time. This little board book is meant for babies and toddlers. It had my squealing and giggling like a fangirl. Yes, I love Jane Eyre that much.

As with Alice in Wonderland I really appreciated all the little details that the artist included. Only this time I found there were a lot more little...more

Prepare for the gush. Look at those covers, the entire books are like that. I love reading picture books with my boys, but you rarely find something that tickles your own personal style so much. Alice in Wonderland is a color primer, with the colorful characters and colors on every page. Though the blue catepillar is not really "blue" and the orange cat with the pink background is hard to see. But the pictures are so cute, and Ivan adores it. He even gets it, the 2 I tho...more

I was privileged to get these two books Little Master Carroll- Alice and WonderLand and Little Miss Bronte- Jane Eyre , they are two books in a series of BabyLit books published by Gibbs Smith Publisher and Written by Jennifer Adams , illustrated by Alison Oliver.

I will start with my thoughts on the Alice and Wonderland book . This book was classified as a Colors Primer. The colors were vibrant and easy for a young child to follow along and to learn. I love how the classic stories are intergrat...more

This book is utterly brilliant! Rich, vibrant colors and intricate, textured illustrations all but shout out 'Read Me!' Which I did. Several times. And maybe I read them to my kids too. Once or twice. Although I confess that they currently live on my bookshelf and not theirs. To be fair however, as I write this review my four year old has wandered over to read the books to himself and is currently laughing himself silly over Alice in Wonderland.

Thankfully, it seems that both the author and illu...more

What I didn't know, when I entered the giveaway (thanks, First Reads!), was that this is actually a counting board book, based on Jane Eyre. You know, "1 governess," "3 candles," and so forth. Which actually makes more sense for a board book than a very condensed version of the novel, so I'm cool with that. I just wish the description/summary talked about it.

The illustrations are absolutely GORGEOUS. Each page, both the number-page and the accompanying picture-page, are full-color, bright, and t...more

I'm counting this as one of my books, even tho it's a board book. Discovered it yesterday at the bookstore...counting books! Based on classic literature. They had a PRIDE AND PREJUDICE book, and a ROMEO AND JULIET one. But of course! I needed the JANE EYRE.

In order to 'comprehend' this, one must understand the original...what would make it fun for young parents is they could use these pages to begin talking about books they love with their toddlers...

Note - this review is for both the "Alice in Wonderland" and "Jane Eyre" Primers.

These are wonderful! Thanks to Eric at Quirk Books for sending them to me. I only wish they’d been published earlier when my grand-niece was still at this baby board book stage – it might have really helped. These are absolutely lovely little books that are very simple and easy to understand (though the term “governess” might take some explaining to babies/toddlers) and the colors and illustrations are absolutely fa...more

Disclaimer: I got this book free for review.

I loved this little board book so much that I fully plan on packing it away to share with my grandbabies (you might want to know that my oldest child is currently 11 years old). While not a true introduction to classic literature in the sense that a tot will know who Jane and Mr.Rochester and Mrs.Fairfax are once the book has been read, it is still a sweet way to infuse a bit of the classics into a No, David! world. (Not that I have anything against th...more

Ginny, 1 years old: I really like looking at this book. The colors kept me coming back for more. I also like counting along with my mommy.

Ginny's mom: I got this book as well as the Alice and Wonderland book for free to review. I really enjoyed these books and was not sure if my daughter would even look at them. But they keep her attention and she keeps bringing them to me when she wants to read a book. If she likes a book she brings it over and over to an adult to read it. It's just one of the...more

I really did wonder how Jane Eyre could be reduced to a board book. Now I know. It's really a counting book with concepts from Charlotte Bronte's novel. Starting with 1 Governess (Jane, of course) the book goes on to show 4 towers on Thornfield Hall and goes up to 10 books on a shelf. I think the book is more for the mommies than the children. I read one review that gushed over the "vibrant" colors. These colors are anything but vibrant. They are soft and muted, well in keeping with the mood of...more

How cute are these books? Seriously! Baby Lit Books take these well known classics and turn them into something that every baby would love. The pictures are bursting with character and color. They teach counting and colors. Reading this book to your child will give them their first introduction to classic literature but in a very fun way. The Baby Lit series includes: Alice in Wonderland, Jane Eyre, Romeo and Juliet, and Pride and Prejudice. I only wish that this series was available when my kid...more

I won this book from a goodreads giveaway. I entered this contest because I love Jane Eyre. I thought this book was utterly charming. The book introduces numbers to young children, certainly in a way far more interesting than what I read as a child. Also wonderful way to introduce the classics to little ones. If she has not already, I hope Ms. Adams will write one for Pride and Prejudice and Little Women. I liked this so much that I intend to keep this book till I have children of my own or nep...more

The artwork in this book is stunning, I was drawn right into this numbers book because its loosely based off the classic Jane Eyre. It teaches children to count with items that relate to the popular Jane Eyre. The colors and artwork comes to life on the pages and I'm sure it would stimulate children of any age that pick up this book. The details in every page are well executed and you can tell a lot of thought went into every page. I love these books for kids and can't wait to share them with my...more

These are the sweetest board books I have ever laid eyes on!
Looking at these book-covers via online does not do them any justice at all! The coloring is gorgeous - vibrant and eye catching! The quality of these books just blows my mind - they are so sturdy, and definitely kid friendly.

But what I adore the most - the theme to these books!
I am a huge Alice in Wonderland fan - all of the main characters make their appearance in this book, each taking a turn teaching your bundle of joy different...more

{ I received this book and Little Master Carroll for free in exchange for an honest review. Full review originally posted to my blog, PidginPea's Book Nook. }

I can't even take it. How precious are these books?? The Baby Lit books are described as "A Series of Board Books for Brilliant Babies," but I think parents (any adult, for that matter) would get just as much enjoyment out of them as babies would, if not more.

The books incorporate some of the major aspects of each story and bring them to...more

I received this along with the copy of Alice in Wonderland: A Colors Primer that I won through Goodreads. It was an unexpected surprise, but I was glad to have it, as I have been wanting to read it. It is meant to be a counting primer for young children, but I would be much more apt to buy it as a tongue and cheek gift for a literary friend. The pictures are great, and the book itself is rather witty. Definitely makes me want to read the others in this series.

Alice
This series is silly! (Funny silly or ridiculous silly... you be the judge) They take classic and put it at a baby level. So Jane Eyre becomes a counting book (1 Governess 2) trucks etv so it is really nothing to do with the actual story...but I guess if you want to expose your 3 month old to Jane Eyre... Here you go...just don't expect them to use this book for their High School Book Report (They don even mention Mr Rochester...blasphemy)

I was disappointed with this BabyLit book. I've read some of the others, which I loved, and I love the original Jane Eyre. I guess my frustration with this one is that there is so much focus on school supplies! Yes, Jane Eyre is a governess in the novel, but that's not the main focus of the story, nor should it be in this version. It just felt like too much to me. The book isn't horrible, but I won't be taking this one home.
Emily
Now excuse my ignorance as I have yet to read the real Jane Eyre, but I found this book to be just as awesome as Alice in Wonderland by Jennifer Adams! My favorite page? 3 candles with a side note: It is always dangerous to leave a candle lit at night! So true!

Once again, beautiful illustrations, nice simple text and even a little science lesson with pictures of insects and their names! Beautiful.
Tammy
How could you not love this? The art is so much fun, and it really brings out how fabulous classic literature. Teaching my child to learn to count using pearls? Yes, please! I don't have a baby yet, but you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be looking for more like this when I do.

P.S. My husband and I actually sat down and "read" this together twice. I haven't had this much fun counting since The Count.
Alexandria Adams
These are adorable children's books made for their literary parents. Jane Eyre is a counting primer, that does the numbers 1-10 in a cartoony style, taking items from the novel. Adorable and great for any parent that is an avid reader!
Landon
I won this through the Goodreads' Giveaways. It is a very simple children's counting book. It is fun to see the story incorporated in these simplistic books. Well done, and that is How Lou Sees It. www.howlouseesit.blogspot.com

I am completely enthralled by this collection of board books. Jane Eyre is a counting book with fun 60s style art. This book is not meant to tell a story, but to give a little glimpse of classic for a young child.

I didn't love this the way I wanted to. It was difficult to read aloud. Then again, my baby is only seven months old, so maybe we'll both like it more later on. Three stars for the concept, though.
Tessa
These books are so clever! What a great way to introduce classics at a young, young age. The illustrations are fun - unique and colorful. Probably more interesting to girls but whatever!
