I got this book as a gift from my cousin, who lives with her husband in the Denver area of Colorado. As active runners, they purchased this at an event where the man himself, Arthur Lydiard, spoke to a large audience of interested long distance athletes. Sadly enough, Lydiard passed away only months after. When my cousin finished this book, she sent it to me, knowing that I was in my final year of collegiate eligibility in track. Ну и,...more

Lydiard's works are referred to so often that I felt I had to get and read a copy of this book. But it's been so long since I read it that I can't say anything about it's contents. The one thing that I can say is that I had a hard time deciding what book to buy because he has two books published a few years apart with nearly identical titles.

Lydiard is arguably the greatest long distance running coach the world has ever seen. Starting with New Zealand and Japan then moving to the hay-day of Finland and into the Kenyan federation, creating the most dominant distance runners in the world where ever he spread his knowledge.

With such a large pool of misunderstanding over Lydriad's training ideas, this is a fantastic look into the heart of Lydiard's training theory. It is nice to see these theories with some of the physiologi...more
