A Week in YA Kissing Books - Haiku Mini Review #2

Brenna kisses boys
Brenna describes all her clothes
Where’s the fecking plot?

I am not kidding around with that last line. (I take my haiku’s very seriously).

I really feel that this book suffered from lack of a solid plot. Sure, events happen. But it doesn’t feel cohesive, structured, or well-paced. There’s no real climax (in one sense of the word, anyway, and yes that was a sex pun) and the storyline feels curiously flat and meandering. The love tr...more

23,956,432 reasons why I love this book.....
But I'm really only going to write out a few of my favorite things.(I think I just quoted Julie Andrews from Sound of Music. Maybe I was humming that song when I saw this book was released.)
If I actually attempted to write all my reasons my hands would be disfigured; like misshapen claws....

And so, lets go to yesterday, when something magical happened to me.
I live in Germany, where time stands still, so this doesn’t happen often. But the Heavens pa...more

First off, I'd like to give props to Liz Reinhardt on a story that is probably some of the most emotionally realistic stuff out there.
I remember once upon a time when I was this young, this stupid and was confused beyond control. She totally nails that messed up way young love is suppose to be about. The right, the wrong and the very ugly.

Now with that said...
Brenna Blixen! What the hell are ya doin'??

At the start of the story we have Brenna and Jake all adorable and in love. I remembe...more

There were parts that I enjoyed. Brenna is still figuring herself out AND still drawn to both boys. She makes mistakes but so do the boys. Her voice is realistic, if a little self-involved. It’s still geared to a more mature audience, with the sex and exploration and what not, but there is more drama (as to the last, is that a good thing or not?)

Now, faced with the ever present love triangle, do I want to start this by settling on which of her choices was hotter? Should I? Really? If Double Clu...more

EDITED:

dear brenna,
brenna...brenna...brenna....what a fucking mess you created! Your head girl is pretty fucked up. You definitely annoyed me on this one. Getting caught up between two boys (and brothers for that) is not a good idea, bet on that. Brenna, you are the most confused and fucked up girl i met for quite awhile. More fucked up than saxon (which says a lot comparing u to saxon). I hate what you did to jake (poor boy) screwed him up big time. I can't forgive you for this one. Please use...more

4.5 stars! Junk Miles continues right where Double Clutch leaves off and sprinkles on plenty of angst and intense drama to this unique little love triangle. I will refrain from specifics, but I will say that the Jake-or-Saxon dilemma intensifies, as they both get some Brenna Blixen action in this installment!

The story kicks off with a mother/daughter trip to Paris-- a Christmas gift from Brenna's sometimes over-bearing, but very loving mother. After Brenna reluctantly says goodbye to Jake, she s...more

Junk Miles, the second novel in the Brenna Blixen series by Liz Reinhardt, continues with Brenna, Jake and Saxon’s story. And let me just say, I love their story! I know it's not finished yet, but I am having so much fun reading their love story.

For the last couple months, Brenna and Jake have been in a happy, loving relationship, but Brenna can’t stop thinking about Saxon for some unknown reason. Jake is a great...more

Junk Miles is a page-turner, and I found myself cooking with my Kindle in my hand because I couldn't put it down. I finished last night and have been thinking about it since then - because throughout the entire book, I so wanted to smack the crap out of Brenna for her constantly selfish decisions. That desire did not change at any point! Luckily, I don't have to like the female MC to really enjoy a book.

From a girl's POV, Brenna is independent and strong. She won't let anyone (um, except for her...more

Why,Brenna,why?

As I predicted at the end of the first book-she would hook up with Saxon. i am not going to judge her because we all have temptations in our lives but that doesn't mean we should succumb to it. Oops,I said no judging.

Junk Miles starts of with Jake and Brenna happily in love. Their plans to spend winter holidays together fall through when Brenna's mom decides they should go to Paris. And surprise, surprise,Saxon and his mommy are there too. So,our dear sweet girl has a make out se...more

Going to keep this review nice and short.

Junk Miles was definitely worth the wait. I completely adored the first one (Double Clutch). I'd heard a few mixed things, and some people were even angry with Brenna in this one. The way she dealt with certain situations probably wasn't the best way to do it, but I understand her confusion. Jake is the right one for her, the safe one, but Saxon is the dangerous and irresistible one. So what would you do if you were away from the guy you thought was right...more

“I wanted this to be easy. I wanted to know for sure who I loved and why. I wanted to be in love without a hint of doubt.
But I realised that I could want as hard as I liked; the reality was already messier than I liked. I was in over my head … and I had a panicked feeling that I wasn’t going to be able to manoeuvre this without screwing up big time.”

Welcome to the tumultuous world of Brenna Blixen! My emotions went through the wringer with this one, and at one point I didn’t quite know what to...more

Summary:
It's the start of Christmas break and Brenna is looking forward to snuggling up to boyfriend Jake. However, her mother surprises her with a trip to Paris. Brenna feels torn because she would really love the trip, but doesn't want to leave Jake.

Jake is the perfect boyfriend. So, why is Brenna having doubts about their relationship? She feels like things are moving quickly in their relationship and starts second guessing where things will go from here. Then, she gets even more confused wh...more

Let me say that I have been recommending this series to everyone I know. Every time I get together with my friends these books are all I seem to talk of. I enjoy them so much my husband was actually jealous that I was spending more time with them then him (we worked it out of course /:-).

This book was a little more emotional for me, and I hope anyone is enjoying the “Sense and Sensibility” similarities in this series as much as I am. To say I love Sense and Sensibility is an understatement, and...more

Brenna’s true colors really shined through in this one. She, for lack of better terms, is a bitch and an elitist snob; so is her mother!

Things that bothered me :
◈ Brenna believes that Jake, her boyfriend, may not be good enough for her because he is poor and not as well traveled as she is. Home-girl needs a reality check because Jake is way out of her league.

◈ Her mother thinks that Brenna is the best thing since sliced bread – which again, is false. What I don’t understand is why Bren...more

As a testament to how much this book impacted me, I actually put it down and almost decided not to finish it....at first. I’m glad I picked it back up. This is book 2 of the Brenna Blixen series. The first book, Double Clutch (Brenna Blixen, #1) was a sweet, teenage relationship read - in the spirit of the Judy Blume books I grew up reading.

This book starts of with the main character, Brenna in a relationship with Jake and on her way to Paris with her mom …. and the OTHER guy she is attracted to, Saxon.

This book was difficul...more

I am all too often not in love with a second book in a series because what's been built up in the first is usually torn down and generally rebuilt in the last second. Honestly, that's not only sometimes hard to read when I loved the first one, but it's also just been overdone. I feared that here with Junk Miles especially since I adored Jake and knew that his head was most likely on the chopping block.

I'm giving this 4 stars primarily because Reinhardt had me glued to this book. I was invested...more

Oh goodness gracious! Just when I thought it couldn't get any better than the first,,, it does! This is the 2nd novel in the Brenna Blixen series (the 3rd to come out sometime in the Spring of 2012). I am so glad that I gave these novels a shot, because they rock! I'll note that I am a Jersey girl, born and bred and so is Brenna and her 2 hot and sexy men, Jack and Saxon. So, it made this series even more appealing to me that the characters live in NJ.

Anyway, I digress. This series is not about...more

To say at the end of Double Clutch I was on Team Saxon would be an understatement. Honestly there was no doubt in my mind that he and Brenna made more sense. Sure Jake was sweet and seemed to really love Brenna, but I'm such a sucker for the bad boy that I couldn't be swayed. That is until I read Junk Miles.

In book two of this delightful series, Brenna is forced to make some hard choices when it comes to who she gives her heart to and finds herself left to deal with the unsavory consequences. W...more

Junk Miles is an emotional love triangle I couldn't put down!

Brenna loves her gorgeous boyfriend Jake, but can't stop thinking about Saxon who is brilliant, arrogant and sexy as hell. This book took me back to high school and the angsty tug of war of young love. Brenna is a strong smart young woman, but struggles with what she knows is right and what tempts her. It's like buying a Snickers bar, your favorite, but still wanting the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. They're both awesome for different rea...more

If gender roles were reversed (Brenna a boy and Jake and Sexton girls) wouldn't she be...THE BIGGEST WANKER EVER? I don't think guys would have "teams" and if they read about a dude doing this they would either praise him for being a player, or hated for being a douche bag. Girl power? Lead girl is strong? No. She's 15 and acts like it. She is obsessed with boys. That is very well written for that age, but she's just as selfish and self absorbed as a 15 yr old boy...and older.

I had to pick up this book once i was done with the first, it was a must. And I wasnt disapointed. Although I was upset with the love triangle it was enevitable. She had to see if there was something there or she would always wonder. I get it. I love that she does her own thing and Jake is cool with her doing her own thing. In this book things come to light between Jake and Saxon but it creates drama. The drama between Jake and Brenna was sad but they both made mistakes that puts a strain on the...more

Ok, I have never been one who was really into YA, but lately I seem to really like stepping into that genre. Also I don't know why I do it to myself because love triangles make me antsy and give me small anxiety attacks, but something draws me towards them and I continue to read through all the pain and turmoil. Maybe it is cause I can connect with them on a personal level, I don't know. What I do know is that if the story and characters are built up right then I am along for a journey of happin...more

Oh Brenna, Brenna I wanted to slap you so much during this book I almost couldn't finish it. But thats what makes it a good read, Right?! This book picks right up where "Double Clutch" left off and it was definitely worth the wait. I love the character of Brenna and even though a lot of people may disagree, I still love her

Okay, I felt like I'm bound to fail my midterm exam because I read this book instead of reviewing. Since curiosity poked its head out because I'm desperate to know how things were between Saxon and Brenna on the second book. Much to my desire that they'll end up together, they didn't which tore my heart because I want it to be Saxon!!!

When they were on their trip to Paris, I thought Brenna will realize how much she loves Saxon. They kissed but it was more of a "lemme try to kiss you so that I'l...more

Oh my Oh My, it's so much easier to choose between two guys when they don't know each other and when their not Brothers! lol Usually I can decide right from the start who I want the girl to be with, but with Jake and Saxon it's been a back and forth struggle for me. I tend to root for the bad boy, in this case Saxon, when Brenna gave into Saxon in Paris, I really felt like it was more out of anger than it was about her real feelings for him, she gave into him with aggression and it didn't feel l...more

I gave 5 stars to Double Clutch but already I hate this book at 28%. Brenna has gone full dumb typical teenage slut if you ask me. You can try to spin this anyway you want about her discovering herself and blah blah but really she is highly aware of what she's doing, she's really just being a 2 timing whore who wants her cake and eat it too. You can be with someone and still be highly attracted to another person WITHOUT acting on it. It's called being a decent person. She goes on and on the firs...more

Let me tell you that I really am enjoying this series. Even though it involves a love triangle, the writer does an excellent job. Liz Reinhardt, I love your solo work.
I don't want to give anything away so it is hard for me to write this review.

Brenna drove me nuts, so expect that when you are reading this series. She could be snotty and always thought she knew more than Jake, but then I loved that Jake grew some "balls." However, to be fair, Brenna is a 16 year old sophomore. She is suppose to...more

5 Stars. Junk Miles is the second of three novels in the Brenna Blixen series, continuing the story of Brenna and her relationships with Jake and Saxon. I think the most important thing I can say about this series is that the author is so fantastic with the character development and peeling back the layers of each character as the relationships between the three of them shift. I found it tough to put Junk Miles down, really just wanting to find out what happens next.

I have particularly found Sa...more

Liz Reinhardt was born and raised in the idyllic beauty of northwest NJ. A move to the subtropics of coastal Georgia with her daughter and husband left her with a newly realized taste for the beach and a bloated sunscreen budget. Right alongside these new loves is her old, steadfast affection and longing for bagels and the fast-talking foul mouths of her youth.

She loves Raisinettes, even if they a...more
