With the younger set, it's just your basic one-word book. You point to pictures and say the word. (Or you shake it up a bit and point to pictures and name something totally different, like "elephant" for "flower". This is apparently hilarious.)

Then, with older kids, you can leave them alone with the book to try to work out some phonemic awareness from the letters in red.

It's exactly what you'd expect from this sort of book, and does its job well.
