Pride is a tracker, kept in a cellar by her master. She always hopes to one day escape and find freedom, so when her master plans to force her to breed to tame her, Pride knows she must run. As pride is on the run with a boy she feels a connection to but also the boy she was sent to track, she not only has to be on the look out for her masters handler and tracker but also the Paranormal Task Force, who is trained to shoot first ask later.

I really enjoyed this story and am glad to be a part of th...more

Pride's Run is deep, dark and a tad bit disturbing. I really enjoyed it! Pride is an amazing character that is a complete joy to read about. Her struggles with her "flaws" and trust are realistic. The connection between Pride and Logan is also realistic, slow and iffy, not rushed or forced. Logan is kind and caring when it comes to Pride. Pride's Run has twists and turns that you never expected, keeping you on the edge of your seat the entire book. There is never a dull moment and I'm anxious to...more

As anyone who knows me will tell you, I'm a large fan of the shifter genre. Wolves, cats, hyenas, whatever...if it's shifter books, chances are I'll at least give it a read. I'm glad I gave this one a chance.

The material is dark, but likely not anywhere we haven't been before. Shifters being enslaved, forced to work for their owners to whatever nefarious purposes said owner may put them. Still, the author handles it fairly well (in my opinion). I enjoyed it, enjoyed watching the main character...more

So I read the blurb of this book and the words popping into my head were 'thrill', 'trauma', 'escape' and 'hunt.' All of which are pretty promising for a book to have...Four star material? And then of course the word 'romance' cropped up...made me think that maybe, this book had what it takes to get up into the Hollywood star of fame region; Completely legendary.
So, obviously, I started reading it, and realized that looks really can be deceiving...
First page in, hope is still shinning in my eyes...more

Hmmm...
In the beginning, reading this book was nearly like reading a handbook. BUT the moment Logan came in it started getting better.
Werewolves. I love them... These ones... notso much.
This book was fast, yet slow. I mean progress was slow because most of it was when Pride and Logan were in the forest, trying to get to wherever.
What was fast was the two falling in love. Actually it was Logan falling in love with her so quickly. Hmmmmmm....
I'm on the thrid book so far, and I see that Logan has...more

Pride is a 17-yr-old girl kept enslaved by a drug lord. She’s a werewolf and she’s not alone. Elders, pups and others are enslaved also. Their master is cruel and Pride dreams of the day she can free them all and kill their master, but she’s considered a runt and despairs of being able to do anything. At the full moon she is going to be put in a cage with 19-yr-old Stone and mated. She has six days to try and get out of there. However, before she can really plan her escape her master has a track...more

Where to start. I enjoyed reading Pride's Run. It has a different twist on the whole werewolf world. There are humans who have enslaved werewolves to do their bidding. Pride who was born into enslavement is sent out on a mission to track a boy and kill him. But things do not go as planned. She comes face to face with her target only to find out he is also a werewolf. The Paranormal Task Force shows up and Pride and Logan go on the run. They have to learn to depend on each other to survive and wi...more

The characters were thoroughly written and there's a plot twist (or two, I guess?) that make you do a double take, but all in all this is just a solid lead into the next book.

Pride, named for being her parents' "pride and joy" - this is explained multiple times always thinks of herself as a runt and is therefore unworthy. But, she's a smart girl: she knows when to be submissive and when to give it her all. Although young in years (17) she is quiet mature, having lived through the murder of both...more

Let me first state that this would have been a four star if it hadn't been for major - and I do mean major- lay out issues in the kindle version. As this is a self published book, that does hit the ratings because it's something the author is responsible for. This greatly diminished my ability to enjoy the story.

Otherwise Pride is an interesting twist on shifters, with the lead character, Pride, as a wolf shifter who has been raised in captivity by her Master. She's not the only one, there are o...more

PRIDE'S RUN, by Cat Kalen, is a journey of self-discovery for a young shifter who is on the run from her evil master. Pride has been caged up since she can remember and kills for her master's pleasure. When one of her tracking missions goes wrong, she jumps at the chance to escape with the boy she was supposed to kill. These two are on the run from their masters and the Paranormal Task Force, both who want to see them punished or dead. Pride goes through many changes and learns to break down her...more

I'm becoming more and more hesitant when selecting a YA read as opposed to the hotter and meatier adult paranormal / Indie books. Yet I was so very relieved to discover, after just the first couple of chapters of Pride's Run, that this book was a keeper!
There was intrigue and action from the start that kept me hooked and desperately wanting to know how things would develop. And with the introduction of the lovely Logan, things just got better and better. Pride and Kalen's relationship was beauti...more

I liked it.

It was a nice easy read with a new take on werewolves. It was really imaginative. And I really liked Pride as the main character. She's a very believable character for the situation she's in. And you could emapathize with her plight.

I especially liked her growth as a person throughout the story.

My only peeve (which is my general peeve toward teen reads) is the WHAM BAM I THINK I LOVE YOU MA'AM manner in which the romance occurs. They meet and 60 pages pages later (aka 4 days later...more

My Review:
PRIDE'S RUN is a great paranormal YA. I have a fondness for shifter books, but don't actually read that many in the YA category. This book caught my eye with the synopsis right away. Usually shifters are at the top of the food chain in paranormal books. They're faster, more dangerous, and they are only part human. PRIDE'S RUN takes a look at the other side of the coin, where shifters are subjugated and controlled by humans.

In fact, PRIDE'S RUN draw...more

TLDR Recap:

Pride, a 17 year old werewolf, is pretty much a slave. Kept in a cage, she is only allowed out into the world when her master says so. When an opportunity arises for her to gain her freedom- something she wants more than anything- Pride takes it. But she is being hunted- and it’s not just her master who’s after her…Pride’s Run is a GraveTells “must read!”

Thoughts:

My thoughts:
I truly enjoyed this book. The characters are well developed and easy to invest in. The story is wonderfully written and nicely edited. Cate Kalen has a way with words and the ability to put the reader on the edge of their seat. I never would have guessed that this was a debut novel, this is quality writing!
Pride and Logan are both fantastic characters, you can't help but fall in love with them. Stone, now he's another story; as a reader, I both loved and hated him depending upon whe...more

I value my sleep and will only very rarely give-up my 8 hours of rest for a book. A sacrifice that I was more than happy to make for Pride's Run. The title might have you thinking "cats" but don't be fooled; this story is 100% werewolf! The main character's point of view is raw and primal. I didn't have any problems seeing the wolf in her, that's for sure! Be prepared to be swept off your feet by Cat Kalen's writing! You will not be able to put Pride's Run down until the...more

A thought provoking read.

At first glance PRIDE"S RUN by Cat Kalen appears to be nothing more than an entertaining YA shape shifter story. But as I read I realized that once I looked past the paranormal aspects of the story I was really reading about man's ability to justify inhumane acts against his fellow creatures whether human or animal.

Pride is a young shifter who was bred and raised to be an enforcer for the cruel leader of a drug cartel. She dreams of of freedom, of escaping, but knows by...more

more of a 2.5!
i think the problem for me with this book is that i just wanted more. i loved the concept and when i began reading i was so involved with the story- i loved Pride and fell in love with Logan- but i just kept waiting for there to be more and more danger or for the bad guys (who she kept refering to) to show up...but they didnt! some other problems were some repetitive phrases like the 'pewter flecks in his eyes' and the PTF people were constantly refered to as the 'guys who shoot fi...more

This book is really intense n it grows on as u read.
I loved Pride's character..she is a stronghead, bad ass werewolf...but she has her weakness, she has trust issues - "Trust No One But Family"(I love this quote),she longs for bring a normal girl ...yet she know her responsibilities.
And She try to overcome all those through the journey with Logan.

Logan is a strong character - a Alpha ..who knows how to handle pride n make her trust him n open her to love!
I definitely liked the story theme - the wh...more

I loved that in this book the perspective we get is from that of a shifter. So often books focus on the HUMAN girl who falls for the shifter, vamp, etc. I like it being the other way around!

The world Pride has grown up in is quite sad. I feel so bad for all she has had to go through. We really just get snippets of feelings or times where she alludes to the past, but man, she sure is one tough girl to have made it through!

Upon learning she will be bred wit...more

I really loved this storyline. It was a refreshing read about werewolves being captured and used as fight dogs trained to please their master. I had a little trouble with the romance part though. I'm used to characters falling in love quickly but this was absurd. (view spoiler)[They had sex after 4 days of knowing each other and they were both virgins. For someone who doesn't want to bring puppies into this world and who was willing to fight to death with Stone when she was told she'll have to m...more

I was caught up immediately in Pride's character and the tension of the first few chapters. The novel had lovely attention to detail that captured Pride's strength and desires superbly well.
Cat Kalen very successfully interweaves hints and possibilities without giving too much away; there are many twists and turns that kept me second guessing, and did not frustrate or disappoint me.
Kalen captured the evolution of well rounded characters and the blossoming romance between Pride and Kalen's beauti...more

Started out really good and went downhill from there. I really like the premise, but it doesn't deliver. Most of the story is spent on the budding relationship between Pride and Logan. There's a lot of telling and not much showing about how great of a tracker/hunter Pride us. She spends a lot of time complaining about her appearance. There are some laughable and weird scenes between them when they are both in wolf form. What turned me off the most was that I read the reviews about books 2 and 3...more

This was a very interesting book, taking a different take on werewolves than many other books do. Being much more realistic to legend, you get a harsher and stark look at the paranormal world that the author has created. Pride is a good character with strong feelings and a good development. Logan is a wonderful character, though a bit too good to be true. Their romance is good but I found it a bit strange when they were wolves and not humans, taking it to a more primal level. The pace was very f...more

I really enjoyed this story. It was refreshing to get a wolf shifter story from a completely different point of view - a teenage girl.

Pride is a young girl, an orphan, who lives in captivity. She is forced to track and hunt for her master, while given only the basic necessities in life. Failure to follow the rules is a painful price. But there isn't a moment that she isn't planning, watching, and waiting for her chance to escape.

And there are a couple things that stand in her way. One, she has...more

Pride's Run is outstanding! It's not like anything I've read lately, and it is definitely not your average werewolf book. I was hooked from the first chapter. Which I have to say is probably the best first chapter ever! Cat Kalen created an extraordinary setting, and awesome characters. I can't wait to start the next book!

I have not had much experience with wolf/shifter books. I'm not really sure, but I have always been hesitant of them in the past. Pride's Run is my first experience where a wolf is the main focus. And I have to say that I really enjoyed it!

Pride starts out almost broken, but not in the way her master wants. She doesn't know how to trust anyone and she has no social skills at all. I felt so bad for her, she couldn't even accept friendship when it was presented to her. I wanted to see some charac...more

So, I'm looking at all the 4 and 5 star reviews for this book and thinking, "Huh? Did I miss something? Are we reading the same book?"

I don't know. It's not like it was bad or anything. Again, it was a book to kill time and it delivered in that respect. It's just that it didn't really do anything I didn't expect it to do. And the writing was okay. But it didn't make me fall all over myself just to read it again. So.

And I know a Goodreads "3" is "I liked it". Which is fair, in that sort of lukewa...more

This was the first book where the main characters are werewolves. I wasn't sure if this was one story I could get in to but I LOVED it! After a few pages of getting to know Pride, I was hooked! I had to see what was in store for her! I really liked Logan and how patient he was with her trusting him. The end kind of sneaks up on you though. I thought I had 10% left and the book ended at 89% on my Kindle. That always throws me because I expected more story at the end based on that alone. Otherwise...more
