I've read this story as a part of His Hero anthology and unfortunately I didn't like it.

Don't get me wrong, it's well-written and I liked Mitch and felt for him, but the relationship's been way too one-sided for me. During the most part of the story Mitch'd just pined and suffered from his unrequited love, while Ivan had either continued loving his ex-fiance or later on found a new girl Jennifer and still regarded Mitch strictly as a friend and never showed any interest in men in general. The si...more

The well-known theme of ‘best friends become lovers’ comes to fresh life in the heart wrenching and hot story of two police detectives who have been best friends forever. It takes a major shock (that of Ivan’s engagement breaking) followed by life-threatening catastrophe for them to realize they can have so much more than a working partnership. While real life is not always this extreme, the basic reality is still the same: facing the prospect of losing someone forever is sometimes the only thin...more

Review posted at Brief Encounters Reviews as part of the event celebrating Canadian Authors. Check out the interview with "Sue" one of the authors from this writing team here!

Mitch has been in love with his partner on the force (Vice) for years now, ever since they became partners on the same beat. The problem is that Ivan is about to marry the love of his life, a woman. Even worse than having to watch the two together at their swank engagement party is seeing just how much of a shrew the woman...more

There really isn't anything new in this story. Mitch and Ivan were cops. Ivan was dumped by his fiancée on the night of their engagement. He ran away, Mitch found him, and Ivan got a bj of his life. They didn't say anything the day after, and Ivan got shot. Mitch regretted not telling his feeling earlier. When Ivan recovered, he needed to say it to his best friend.

Still, it's a nice quick reading. Mitch sounds a bit whinny sometimes, but Ivan is fine-albeit a bit stereotypical GFY chara...more

2.75 stars, if I want to be generous.
At 49 pages in my reader, what you read in the blurb is all you get in the book. I didn't know whether Mitch was gay or he was still deciding; I thought Ivan was straight all along until suddenly, he's saying stuff like "I've got years of repressed longing to make up for".

Forty-nine pages is much too short to deliver a decent story. Pure porn, yes. But ItNotL is not cop porn. It's supposedly about gay cops - who don't know they are gay; or one of them doesn't...more

I've enjoyed other stories written by Sue Holston and this one was no exception. I always enjoy the "best friends become lovers" plot, and the fact that Mitch and Ivan are cops made it even more appealing to me. I do wish the book was longer, though. Some parts felt a bit rushed. Other than that, a good read!

Too short, the story feels like fast fowarded ;/
Other than that, I like the chemistry between Mitch and Ivan, thou I don't quite understand with Ivan feeling for Mitch. I mean, in the end, he admitted that he wants Mitch, but what about his love adventure with his fiancee and his teraphyst?

This was a solid 3.5. Great chemistry with the MC's but I needed more. There were a few points where the plot jumped a little, and I would have liked it to be a little more flushed out. Best of the uniform themes releases from Total E Bound, so far, though.

Thanks to a review on ReviewsbyJessewave for the anthology His Hero, I bought this title and "A Ring And A Promise" as they were recommended. I enjoyed both stories tremendously and will look for both authors in future purchases.

2.5 Stars. Very short story with the typical friends to lovers theme with one being straight and the other bi. While the writing wasn't bad, it was just too short to be a solid story.

Move along folks there's nothing to see here. It does not move an inch out of what you see in the description and the moderately good writing does nothing to invigorate an old premise.

A good short read about unrequited love that turns out to not be so unrequited after all.

2.5 stars. Ok short m/m romance about a cop who's been in love with his straight partner for years.

An entertaining short story with a HEA. Hard to believe that Ivan never sucked dick before though.

This was a great premise but it really needed to be longer, paced more sedately with a bit more character development.

Read this as part of the Hero Anthology and this was the least favorite of the bunch, at least til now. It was totally harebrained. Both MCs fell in the TSTL category.
