The Apple King tells the story of a pig whose the King of a castle where a beautiful apple tree grows. The tree is his most prized possession and must receive the upmost care from all his servants. A little long and wordy for a almost 3 yr old attention span, but one I should revisit with him in a year or so because the illustrations are nice (which is why I picked it up. Oh and my love of apples.) and it has a nice moral. Basically the King loves his apples so much that he doesn't let anyone else have them and even enshrines them on his walls. A king (shown here as a pig in fine clothes) zealously guards his apple tree, the only one in the kingdom and one which bears gloriously sweet fruit. Despite his efforts to keep the tree pristine, it becomes infested with worms. When he discovers the reason, the whole kingdom benefits from the solution.

I like the design of this book: large format, crisp large font on white pages with subtly shaded illustrations opposite.

We will be buying this book. My daughters really got the message of the damage that could happen when we don't share and we just think of ourselves. They also even got the subtler messages about being kind to the earth. I'm shocked that this book is not more popular with parents. Its absolute gem.

It is a long story but wonderfully illustrated and told in a very expecting way which would leave the children to want to find out what happens next.
A selfish king keeps a beautiful apple tree and its wonderful fruit all to himself, until an invasion of worms teaches him a lesson about sharing.

This is a great story. The apple king is selfish with his apples until one day his precious tree is overtaken with worms. The worms teach the king a lesson. Great way to introduce fairy tales and it's a different kind of "one upon a time" to keep kid's interest. PreK-3
