I bought this book sight unseen because it was on sale and I enjoy Maya Banks's KGI series. Imagine my surprise.

Although this series is probably put in the erotic genre, I am making my own romantic fantasy genre because these folks do not live in any reality I know. Basically it's an emotional utopia where no one feels jealous, inadequate, slighted, or wronged. I read the entire series to date over a 10 day period.

This latest installment reads like an epilogue of the entire story to date. Much like the rest of the series, plot line is thin. There are few, if any, plot surprises or twists in any if the installments and this book is no exception. Bit at this point, if you've read the other 3, you probably have some interest in the characters. I was so excited to get this latest installment of Maya Banks’ Colter family. I’ve enjoyed reading about this unique family since the first book. I’ve enjoyed reading about this unique family since the first book. Not many authors are able to give readers a balanced read with romance, the erotic, and a good storyline, but not so the case with this Colters’ Legacy series from Ms. Banks. Each book has been thoroughly enjoyable to read, and it’s nice to know there’s more to come.

In this book we get a wrap-up for each part of the Colter family that we’ve met in previous books. The nucleus of the family is Holly. Woman, lover, wife, mother. She and her husbands, Adam, Ryan, and Ethan, are older in this book. Their children are grown and married, homes of their own. But I really like their relationship at this point. It’s more mature, but their love and hunger for each other has never waned in the intervening years.

Callie, their daughter, is happily married to Max, but with a phone call from his sister, Lauren, Max has been out of town helping his sibling out, and Callie has no idea what’s going on. When he returns home, she finds a different Max than the one who left. He seems distant, pulling away from their relationship that Callie needs, his Dominant to her submissive. When he tells her what he found during his visit with Lauren, she’s as appalled and angry over her sister-in-law’s situation as Max was and still is. Because family means everything to the Colters, Callie insists they bring Lauren to the mountain where she can heal. And she has a heart to heart with her husband to let him know how much she needs him and their very special connection to one another.

A visit to her doctor confirms Lily’s fears – she’s pregnant. The loss of her child in a previous marriage still haunts her and she’s not sure she can go through that again. But Sean, Dillon, and Michael need to know. Lily just needs a little time to process the news first. Her husbands know something is wrong, but Lily isn’t forthcoming with her concerns. Is she tired of sharing her life with them? Has it all become too much? When Lily realizes the fear her silence has caused, and even though she botches the way she wants to tell the men, her news is most welcome indeed. But the guys also realize it’s going to be an emotional time for Lily, and their tenderness with her is very touching.

What truly makes this story is the little details and family. Holly wants to learn to cook to present her family with Thanksgiving dinner. It’s Lily who teaches her in secret. The way they handle their husbands during this time is priceless, and those men know something is up but they go along with their wives for the upcoming fun. Lauren also benefits being with the Colter family. It’s Holly who breaks through to her, making her realize there’s no room in her life for shame or blame. The way these men revere their women is wonderful to read. The way the family sticks together, no matter what, warms the heart. Then there’s scorching those love scenes. You feel the love and passion ooze off the pages when these characters share themselves with one another.

The Colters have something to offer every reader out there. Maya Banks has created a family of characters who will be remembered long after the last page is read, long after another dozen or two other books have been read. Take the time to get to know them. They will happily welcome you into the family.

This books give us the whole Colter family POV in one book. We get to see what is going on in the lives of Holly, Adam, Ethan and Ryan. Its been 30 years since they found her lying in that ditch. This was a shorter book than the others in the series. It read more like a very extended epilogue where we get to catch up with all the Colter characters.
What I did not like: There really was no storyline or obvious plot to follow, no actual conflicts. Most scenes were too sugary, I lost count how many times the word "loving" came up.

So that's your basic plot. As you can see, not a whole lot of drama. As for the lovin' these books are so famous for? Most of it is off the pages; however, we do get a pretty hot ménage scene between Lily and her husbands--Dillon, Michael, and Seth.

This book is for die-hard fans of the series only. If you feel you can't get enough of the Colters, you'll want to read it. It doesn't break any new ground, but it does keep a couple plot threads dangling. In the future we'll probably be treated to a book about (view spoiler) 3 1/2 stars(less)

Holly, ever the mama bear, wants to finally give her family a home cooked meal and as the story is set around the holidays, she enlists Lily’s help in learning to cook Christmas dinner. Callie and Max are preoccupied with bringing his sister, Lauren, to live with them after learning that she was dealing with an abusive ex who won’t leave her alone. Lily finds out that a new baby Colter is on the way, but has to deal with a past that rushes back at her and all she can think about is her first baby, Rose, and how she died suddenly from SIDS.

The two storylines that caught my attention most were Lily’s pregnancy and Lauren. Lily has a hard time finding joy in the news and struggles with it alone until she tells her men. They all support her in their own way and they had some nice moments together dealing with the news and the emotion that went with it.

By far I was most interested in Lauren. I finished the story wanting to know more about her and to know who the man is that’s going to help her heal. I loved seeing the protective brother side of Max. He came to life on page when he was taking care of Callie and later Lauren.

Where the book fell short was in the overall plot – there really isn’t one. If you go into this book only wanting an update on all the Colters, you’ll be happy. Beyond that, the only real plot to the book for me was Lauren’s introduction. I also think calling this a novel is misleading. I always hesitate putting a detail like this in a review – but I think it’s worth noting that to me, this read more like a novella. It’s short, about 200 pages and a very fast read.

Overall, the story didn’t bring much that was new to the table, but it’s a nice update on the current characters in the series. I would suggest that this would read best to people who are familiar with the series and characters already; new readers to the series may want to start with the earlier books prior to reading this. I’ve enjoyed the books in this series, so finding out what's going on with the family was fun to get (I’ll take any excuse to get more Max, yummy) but it didn’t feel like anything more than an update. I’m looking forward to the next novel for Lauren.(less)

Colters’ Promise takes us back to Clyde, Colorado and the lives of the Colters. It’s Christmas time and for the first time in years the entire family will be together and changes are happening. We get a great look into the lives of the family that has captivated so many readers. We get to see how things are going in everyone’s day to day lives and how they are coping with heartache, sickness and new beginnings.

Holly is the matriarch of the Colters clan along with her three husbands, Ethan, Adam and Ryan who also happen to be brothers. Holly is still spoiled rotten by her husband's and her children and this year she is determined, with help from Lily, to cook Christmas dinner for the first time ever. We first met this group in Colters’ Woman, book #1, and we get a great glimpse into their lives now thirty plus years later.

Lily is finally starting to settle into her life with her husbands/brothers Dillon, Seth and Michael but an unexpected twist has Lily shaken and shutting out the men who love her. Lily is a very fragile person who has gone through a lot of emotional pain which was introduced in Colters’ Lady. Her husbands would do anything for her and it takes Lily a very long time to accept this and move away from the pain of her former life. The majority of Colters’ Promise focuses on Lily, her men and how they are still dealing with Lily’s past.

Callie is the only daughter of Holly and her husbands and we met her and her husband Max in Colters’ Daughter, which is my favorite book of the series. Max and Callie have a dominant-submissive relationship that they love and enjoy but it is shaken up after Max learns that his baby sister lauren has been abused by her boyfriend. Max and Callie fly to New York and bring Lauren to Clyde to heal with the help of the Colter clan.

I love the Colters and I was very excited to see what was going on in everyone’s lives especially Max and Callie. I have never been a fan of Lily so I was disappointed that the majority of this story focuses on her. I find her very weak, which she herself admits to, and she is just not my type of female that I like to read about. This book is very cute but it repeats itself over and over again to the point where it’s too much. All anyone talks about is how the men of the book protect their women and spoil them rotten over and over again and since the book is so short it seems that is all anyone has to say.

Colters’ Promise is good but it’s not great. I think that is should have been a novella and not a full book as it’s just over two hundred pages and reads like a novella. I’m not sure what I was expecting but I got too much Lily and not enough of the rest of the Colters that I really enjoy. I hope this isn’t the end of this series but I do hope the next book focuses on the rest of the characters or Max’s sister lauren. I love maya Banks and the Colters but this book just didn’t work for me. (less)

I love the Colter series but this story was a big disappointment. It was sugar poured on syrup over a candy bar - so sweet it made my teeth ache. A lot of serious subjects were touched on but were avoided to keep you swimming in an ocean of honey. I really looked forward to reading this story but I was seriously disappointed. I've read the whole series and well, Angie {Smut Book Club} has me embracing my love of a little bit of smut.
The series is not for the faint of heart. If you're not into erotica, with pretty explicit descriptions, this isn't the book for you. Also, if you're not a fan of multiple partners or BDSM, you won't like this either. You have been warned.

A very nice (what I’m considering) conclusion to the Colters’ series. I felt that Ms. Banks tied up a lot of nice HEAs with this book while giving the reader a chance to once again visit with some of her favorite characters, Colters’ and Wilder alike. This was a great introduction for me to the Colters. It was warm, sweet, funny and even included one sexy love scene between Lily and her three husbands – Seth, Dillon and Michael.

Those familiar with the Colter family will feel an even greater connection to Colters’ Promise than I did. It was great getting to spend time with three different sets of people and I hope Max’s sister, Lauren, gets her own happy ending in a future Maya Banks story.

This one reads like an extended epilogue to the Colters and I didn't mind that. There's a few low-key drama bits, one sexy scene (a departure from the rest of the series), and a hint that more may be in store for this family.

The next chapter in Lily's life, and the jump in Callie's life takes you by surprise if you haven't read the book set between Colters' Lady and Colters' Promise. It weaves everyone into each others' lives more solidly and more solidly introduces Max's sister Lauren into the family fold. Sorry but only three stars from me. I loved all the previous Colter books, but overall, though it was nice to catch up with all the families and see what was happening to them, at over £4.00 this was seriously overpriced!! Nothing much happened in the book, not much story and not much sex, it was just as if the publishers told Maya Banks to "knock out"a book quickly and we will rake in the pounds.
